A day for Farkles

Accidentally posted in Rizoma thread, repost here.
In an unusual and positive confluence, the three Farkles I recently ordered all arrived on Friday. So I had a nice Saturday afternoon in the garage attending to the front end of the CB.
First were the Rizoma knock-offs discussed on another thread. They can be found here: http://m.ebay.com/itm/190602331465
Upon opening them, I was surprised at their diminutive size, and concerned that thee were pure show. No need for the worry. While they are indeed small, they are slightly convex, and in crystal clear blue tint glass. Easy to mount and adjust, zero blurring at speed, and great view once adjusted. Can't be beat for $48, shipping from HK in under 2 weeks.
Next, the chrome gauge covers. They just screw on and cover the black plastic. I'm not really a chrome guy, but I like the look on the CB, and it definitely brightens up the front end. $48 from a dealer in eBay.
Finally the Dart flyscreen. I have one on a Bonnie, and am a fan. What a nice piece of kit, and a tip notch vendor. Great quality and instructions and the custom brackets are perfect. I think I'll eventually spray them black, but the setup is great, and while it does not turn the CB into a touring rig, the Dart gives a decent windbreak in the chest, and looks great without taking away from the classic look of the CB.
So, it was a nice day. Tomorrow, I ride!

Shock Preload adjustment

I would like to try adjusting the preload on my shocks but Honda didn't provide the tool to adjust them with the bike. I am wondering if I need to buy the tool from Honda or if there are other options out there. I don't have any specific complaints about the stock setup, but I weigh 215 and am thinking more preload might be justified.

Ran into some trouble with bar risers

I had a chance to install my gen mar universal bar risers, everything went smooth, how ever when I angled the bars back , the controls ,, brake and clutch resevoirs were angled down, loosened everything up and adjusted . The left bar control for signals , brights , etc has to be rotated to clear the clutch for long pulls , this part is still loose . It is two pieces with two screws. Im not sure if it had loc tite on it originally. Doesn't look like anything on bar underneath, no residue, both screws can tighten all the way and it still has some play.
Any help is appreciated. Thanks

A lap around Lake Superior

Lake Superior has always intrigued me. I have been around it in a truck but not on a bike. My son had a week off work and our passports were up to date so away we went.
Lake Superior:
largest fresh water lake in the world
over 350 ships lay on her bottom
350 miles east to west
160 miles north to south
deepest point 1,333 feet
average water temp 40F (brrrrr)
large enough to contain all the other Great Lakes plus 3 more Lake Erie's
could cover all of North America in water three feet deep
is large enough to create it's own weather patterns

The guy who bought one of my old bikes went with us. I put 28,000 miles on the Versys I sold him in 2 and a half years now it is up to 40,000 with no probs.
Ready for take off

My son rides a 2002 Honda VTX 1800. I had a VTX years ago also. Mine had 48,500 miles on it when I traded it. We ride.

Our trip lasted 7 days and covered 2200 miles. 5 nights in a tent and 1 night in a motel.
We didn't get as early a start as I wanted so we just hi speed slabbed it to Duluth, MN the first day. Wisconsin Point near Superior, WI has some nice harbor views.

we explored harbors, boat landings, taconite factory's and anything else that tickled our fancy as I had promised my son there would be no death march iron butt rides like his Dad is used to.
we made many stops along the pond

So basically, we just chilled and rode bikes and drank beer and camped.
This was our theme.

We set up our tents at the Grand Marais MN campground and took a run up The Gunflint Trail. A blacktop road that ends near Canada. It was a fur trapper route.
