I finally gave up on the plexi 2 and ordered the Comet fairing with touring screen. I wrote an earlier post about not liking the amount of wind noise the plexi 2 caused around my helmet. I have to say that for me, the Comet fairing is what I was looking for. I took it on about a 70 mile ride including about 10 miles of 70+ mph interstate roads. While it doesn't turn it into a Goldwing for touring purposes, it made for a much more comfortable ride with out the wind buffeting I was getting with the Plexi. For me it is just what I was looking for.

If anyone wants to try the Plexi 2 I will be putting it up for sale. Maybe it will work for shorter riders, but for my 6'ft 2" size it seemed to be just the wrong height.

Has anyone installed performance exhaust such as Yoshimura and pulled plugs after several hundred miles to see how lean its running?
Just wondering if something like Power Commander is required to kept from running too lean and maybe doing engine damage.

Looking for some input regarding the Power Commander V. I am sure the CB is programmed to run lean from the factory to meet emissions standards and feel that "richening it up" a bit will make a noticeable difference when riding . I have never used or installed on of these devices and was curious on a few things;

Is the stock exhaust and intake map already loaded on the unit?

Did you notice a difference in performance?

I have a Staintune slip on but didn't see any maps for the CB 1100 on the Dynojet website, did you take your bike to a dyno to have the map done (if you have a slip on or full system) or are you running the stock map?

Are you using the "Autotune" module?

(I don't plan on doing any other mods except maybe a K&N filer if they ever make one so I don't really need all of that adjustability.)

Hello folks, been hanging around this forum since i 'discovered' the CB1100 back in June. I really enjoy the info sharing and advice. Dilemma: i have new bike fever bad & i've narrowed down my choices to just two (... Today). A left over, 2012 Triumph street triple R (diablo Red), or a 2013 CB1100 in.....ummm... Red.
I KNOWN these are two bikes that are very different in pretty much every aspect, ergos, style, performance, etc. both undoubtedly fine machines!
I've had Bonnies, Thruxton, CBR600RR, Yamaha FZ8. I'm 52 years old, just retired, pretty physically fit and i'm really torn between wanting the 'thrust-to-weight-ratio' of the STIIIR, and the classic (beautiful) lines & quality and comfort of the CB1100. I don't belive that the Honda is lacking in performance. I think there's folks on this board with experience or that currently own both bikes. I can't the $$ to have both, so i must decide between them. My 'typical' riding style is 50/50 mountains, twisties & just running errands or cruising around town for an hour or two.
Any advice or opinions would be greatly appreciated!

I just bought my bike out of state and good thing I didn't have to get to my battery on the trip back. Today I did 600 mile check and wanted to check battery posts. The screw that holds the storage box was cross threaded big time, it took great effort just to turn that puppy (I'm a retired aircraft tech so I know my way around a tool box)..............needless to say the anchor nut broke free and the screw just spun. What a hassle trying to drill the screw head off when it spins and not much room to vise grip it. It turned out ugly and basically had to work on the box around the screw to release it...........no big deal, I can find ways to secure it but it just pisses me off the quality of work you get nowadays. The dude that did this had to really torque on the screw to seat it all the way, he knew he cross threaded it.
About a year and a half ago I bought a new Super Tenere and at 600 miles required final drive fluid change, pulled the drain plug and only a few drops came out (long story short, got the dealer to tear it down for inspection)..........and it doesn't end there, about a month after this I was checking front tire pressure and noticed both pinch bolts on the axle were backed out several turns.
The moral of the story, when you do that first inspection really check Everything cause that make ready guy doesn't know sh**.

There was a Bay Area Riders Forum (BARF) group ride this morning, starting at the south end of San Jose, out to Watsonville and back.

Beautiful ride. Great roads in good condition (especially Highway 152 a.k.a. Hecker Pass Highway), nice scenery, not too much traffic, and the pace was perfect; very mellow and safe riding the whole way.

I was wondering if Rolls might show up for this one, and sure enough he was there!

We got a little photo op in at the stopping point for the end of the group ride, which was near the intersection of Summit Rd and Highway 17:


PTM on the left, Rolls on the right, but our bikes are in the reverse of that order.

Rolls and I continued up Summit Rd to Skyline Blvd. There were some real tight and steep corners and narrow roads there along with some very nice view of the hills. I had never been up that way but I'm glad that we went.
We continued up Skyline all the way to Alice's Restaurant where we checked out a great classic Ferrari (maybe Rolls will post up a pic of that?), the prettiest looking FZ-1 I've ever seen, and whatever other bikes and cars were there. Rolls almost got hit by a lady pulling off of the stop sign at the junction of 84 and Skyline; there is no stop sign for the traffic on Skyline. Nice avoidance move, Rolls!
We watched another car almost hit a car in the exact same way right before parting ways. I think they need to make the "CROSS TRAFFIC DOES NOT STOP" signs a bit bigger and put some wild flashing lights on it, or something to catch people's attention.

Anyway, it was a very great day with a great group of riders!

On a similar bike?

Does anyone know if 1" upward and 1.25" backward risers will work with stock equipment, is there 'nough slack?

Given the front and rear tire sizes of our bike, it seems difficult to find anyone who makes both of the front and rear tires, and am just afraid those 18s might even be more difficult to find later on. Appreciate any insights out there.

Every fall, some of us men take a trip with no wives along. We get to ride till we are tired of riding. We eat what we're not supposed to. We cuss, belch, fart and leave clothes strewn about the hotel room, and we don't watch girlie shows on tv at night lol. We've been to W Va, the U.P. of Michigan, the Blue Ridge Parkway, Deals Gap North Carolina and northern Ga, se Ohio and northern Kentucky. This year we decided to make a return trip to West Virginia/ nw Va. The roads in sw W Va and nw Va, are just awesome to ride. Unmatched natural beauty combined with limitless curves, and very little traffic, make this an ideal place to ride motorcycles. This year an extra bonus was the near perfect weather. A few sprinkles one evening that didnt even require rain gear, temps in the upper 40s to mid 70 s everyday. Just gorgeous weather. Lets look at some of the 200 pics I took during the week.

First day was a straight shot there. 7 hours I think, about 350 miles. We checked into the Holiday Inn Express in Weston W Va which would be our base for the next few days. Nice place, with heated pool and Jaccuzi which felt great every night after a long day of riding. Using the hotel as a base, we made loops out of there everyday using it as a starting and ending point. That way we were able to leave our luggage in the room, and just carry what we thought we would need for the day.

Just south of Elkins W Va is a resort called Snowshoe. Neat place to ride thru. Plus you get to be envious of the people that can actually afford to stay there in the clouds lol

After Snowshoe we headed down to Droop Mountain Battlefield State Park. On the way there, there is a series of esses you ride thru that are not only devilishly curvy, but cambered with elevation changes in the middle of them, just an awesome stretch of highway.
