After several weeks of shipping issues, O2 sensor removal fights and bad weather I got the new KSY Race pipe on. Thanks to the forum member who passed on this great pipe at a great deal. No more stealth riding on this bike just pure audial porn. Shoot I even hit the rev limiter first time ever the other day listening to the sound on the freeway onramp and I've yet to run it with the baffle out. I took some video with my DSLR but the sound was too much for the crappy mic on the camera to process I'll try with my digital recorder and see if it does better.

I know...crazy comparison! I just joined this thread because have been lurking and am a long time Honda rider. In my young days I rode a CL down every back road I could find. Since then I've had several Honda dirt bikes. Now am in my early 50's and looking for a bike for the street. I did have a Bonneville because I like the old school look. Have ridden about every Harley but just can't seem to pull the trigger. I also like the BMW GS as I like to ride back and mountain roads and just explore. My wife doesn't ride with me so will be 1 up. I anxiously waited for the CB and looked at it soon it came out and like it. Then I just kept looking at HD's until the past weekend and I went back to the Honda dealer again. I really like the CB so started reading all the post. I also stated checking at the windscreens as this was a concern but looks like there are options. I like naked most of the time but some wind protection would be nice at times. Am planning on taking one out this weekend for a demo ride. Not sure what I am asking for in the post unless you can give me some input on if any of you ride both and your impression of the CB versus an HD. Am looking at the softails. Like I said though only back and mountain roads and very little highway or long trips. Have lots of beautiful mountain roads here in Arkansas to ride without ever getting on the highway.

Stunt Road in Malibu is one of my favorite rides in LA County. It's short (4mi), quiet, and has nice wide turns with plenty of room at the bottom. There aren't many driveways to worry about cars entering/exiting either. The only thing you need to watch for or cyclists and small rock slides. Speeds peaked at 75mph at a few locations of the ride and I spent most of it in 2nd - 3rd gear, between 6000 and 7500 rpms.

National Cycle has the CB1100 on it's new products list with something called the Legacy shield but they don't show it yet
This is the time of year the Mfg's. get geared up for next season.
I think they will show it at the dealer show in Oct. or Feb., if they
have something just for the CB unless I am just confused by their web page -- maybe it's just to much Wisconsin beer

My background is with dirt bikes and human powered road bikes so I consider myself to be relatively inexperienced with with motorcyles surrounded by other vehicles. Today was my first close call with another motorist and the first emergency stop I've had to do on the CB1100.

I was rounding a curve and the oncoming vehicle began to cross my lane (without signaling) to enter a business to my right. The teenage driver stopped once she saw me but I had already straightened out and began an emergency stop. The rear tire locked up, but overall front end braking left a lot to be desired. I will look into aftermarket pads for the front brakes. I was travelling between 35-40 mph when I began the e-stop.

I'm looking for any critiques the experienced lot of you may have for me as I want to stay a safe and happy rider for many years to come. It was a bit of a blind turn and I know the fault lies with the driver crossing traffice (signal or no signal) but I probably should have been going slower around the turn (i was about 5 mph over the limit). The second I saw the driver cross the double yellow, I straightened up and applied max pressure to my front and rear. To me, she was commited to the turn and even though she stopped, I had already cancelled my turn so I was comitted to stopping. Had I continued the turn, there wouldn't have been a problem, but I don't think that would have been the proper response in this given scenario.

Upon reflecting on the incident, I realized I didn't depress the clitch lever during the e-stop. The motorycle died when I came to a stop. I'm not sure why I didn't as I've practiced this numerous times. This is one of the errors I'm aware I made. My weight was still shifted to the right of the bike when I came to the stop, that's why the bike was leaning to the right. She was about a third of the way to getting dropped.

Any of you inmates in California with a smoked quarter windscreen parked next to my buddy this morning? He just bought the VFR and I've got to get out to Cali to ride with him when time permits.

I have to chuckle a bit as I post this. If you were to look at my CB1100, you'd probably never guess that it belongs to the person responsible for starting this forum. My CB is bone stock except for the Honda Rear Carrier and the Staintune slip-on exhaust. An admittedly short list of farkles, and the rear carrier might be put away in storage for a while.

This past week I got a wild hair and ordered a set of the Honda Chrome Meter Covers. That's right, call me crazy, but I've added a third accessory to my bike. There are plenty of images of these out on the web so I've skipped the pics of them on the bike. Installation was a breeze and even though I'm not really a "chrome guy", I really like the look. It adds just a bit more retro style to the CB.

I really just thought it was fun to take a moment and reflect on just how much others have done to modify their CBs, especially considering that most of this has been done via overseas distributors. Maybe some day we'll start seeing more availability of aftermarket parts here in the States (although I'm not going to go holding my breath until then).

If I really decide to go nuts, I might just order some of those little rubber end covers for the levers (now what were those part #s ?).

Just wanted to say a word or two about the versatility of the National Street Shield EX for those looking for a shield. First off, it is a clear curved medium coverage shield that mounts with 2 brackets on the handle bars and 2 brackets on the upper fork legs. Randy B did a nice tute on mounting one in the "How To" section.

I used one along with some soft luggage on my recent week long trip to West Virginia and found it did an amazing job of keeping the wind off me from bicep to bicep, and from waist to eyes. Running 75 to 80 for hours on end with no neck or arm strain from fighting the wind is awfully nice when going on longer rides.

But I like riding naked bikes, so as soon as I got home, I removed the shield, leaving behind the two brkts on the bars and fork legs.

Then this morning I had to run into town to the post office. I felt like taking the CB, but the temp was in the mid 40s. No prob, grabbed the Street EX and threw it on in literally 2 minutes. Great ride to town, and stayed plenty warm. Then this afternoon, the temps had gotten into the low 70s ..perfect for riding a naked bike. 2 minutes later the bike is naked again, and I went out and hit some curvy country roads enjoying the air.

I'm really pleased with the versatility of this shield. It's not perfect (close but not quite). At 5' 7" the wind coming over the shield hits me square in the eye port of my helmet, causing some buffeting. I think cutting a few inches off the top like CIP 57 did, might make the shield closer to perfect, but for the remainder of this fall and winter I am going to live with it as is, because it does a great job as is.

Takashi sent me a small box of goodies. The shipping label shows the box shipping at 5:45 am Eastern Time (6:45 pm Japanese time) on Thursday. Less than 57 hours later it was in my hands and 10 minutes later it was unpacked:

The rear turn signals come with the hardware shown. Typical of Honda, every piece came in it's own bag with a Honda part number label.

I'll need to take the Honda rear carrier off my bike and pray that I can figure out how to mount the signals. As Takashi said, the Japanese verisions are not a bolt on kit.

I'll start the install of these bits and pieces tomorrow.
