So I have test ridden the CB11 and really liked it, didn't get to spend much time at higher freeway speeds though. How do you like the 5 speed and the final gear ratio, is it relaxed at 65-70, or is it revving kind of high? Any buzziness/vibration issues?
I would want this bike to do everything from short trips around town to the once or twice a year week long tour.

Engine "from HONDA"
Centrepiece of the CB1100 is its handsome DOHC engine. Air (via 2mm fins) and oil-cooled (via a 335mm 9-tier, front-mounted oil cooler), the finning is the finest found on any bike within the Honda range, and new production methods had to be found for its manufacture. It revs to 8,500rpm and features a compression ratio of 9.5:1. Maximum power output is 66Kw, with a peak torque figure of 93Nm @ 5,000rpm.

Importantly, however outright horsepower figures on Dynograph paper was not the goal – if the engine proved fun to use, then it would be deemed a success. Smooth, instantly accessible power and torque is what the CB1100's motor's all about, and plenty of it, anywhere in the rev range. No frantic thrashing to the redline; just dial in the throttle, and go. Four-stroke, four-cylinder motive thrust at its creamy, effortless best.

Extremely efficient PGM-FI fuel injection, utilising one 36mm throttle body, gives excellent fuel consumption of 25.1km/l (70.9mpg) @ WMTC.

Bore and stroke is set at 73.5mm x 67.2mm. Drive for the twin camshafts is via central chain, and the valve included angle is 26.5° inlet and exhaust. Inlet valve diameter is 27mm, with a 2.5mm stem; exhaust 24mm with 2.5mm stem. A single, secondary balancer shaft ensures smooth running and drive is transmitted via wet clutch and five-speed gearbox. Final drive is by 530 chain.

I run Progrip 719 gel grips on all my bikes. They have more cushion, absorb vibes, and are stickier than the stock oem grips. So I ordered a set of the blk/blk colored ones for the CB. They came in today. Will probably get them on in the next couple of days and will post up pics.

Can anyone tell me what a good comparable bike would be for insurance purposes? My insurance agent doesn't have the CB in their system and is trying to use a 2013 Honda CB1000R, at a tune of $897.64/year coverage. WTH? Talk about apples and oranges...100 more HP???

I pay a lot less than that for my 2011 Ducati Monster 796!

Any help/suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Although my Blackbird is actually a 2001 model which originally was Glory Red, the PO painted it with '02 colors. I LOVE that bike. It's like riding a jet engine on rails.
However, I just can't handle the ergos any longer. Hell I barely can get my left leg up on the CB1100 footpeg, let alone the XX pegs.
Its going to be put up for sale in the next day or so.

as far as i can tell from the honda cb1100 website this bike only comes in the color red . please tell me this is not true . what is honda thinking ? all motorcycles should at least be offered in black . i hate red vehicles . i would like to buy a cb1100 but it must be in the non color black . please advise . thank you .

Just picked up the bike this afternoon. I gotta have luggage. Heck, I didn't even have a good way to carry the paperwork so I had to fold it up and stuff it in my pocket. I will often jump on my bike when I have to get a few things. I don't need a ton of storage but I do like to toss my jacket in a case when I'm going inside for any length of time. I'm typically not a big fan of the top box (looks) but I'm also not a fan of panniers that open from the side. I've been mostly looking at Hepco Becker now that Moto Machines shows CB specific options. Surely others have been pondering this same issue. What have you come up with?

Well, I was out getting the first maintenance on the bike done at the stealership (they threw in a hugely discounted prepaid maintenance plan with the CB) and after I was done I figured I'd run on over to Sargent and look around. I talked with a guy there for a while about customizing the seat (about $260ish for what I want done). Apparently since it's the beginning of the season, they're crazy busy. Locally, it's a 3 week wait, so god help you if you ship a seat in now.

I did ask if they had any plans on making a seat for the CB, but as far as he was aware they weren't even considering it yet. He said they have to get at least a couple hundred requests before it even hits their radar.

If anyone is considering them, just to have driver portion of the seat changed (raised/lowered, new foam added, and their default covering), it'd be about $170-180ish iirc. I don't know how that compares to other places, but it's there for comparison at least. I was looking at getting the pillion changed a bit so she'd be a bit comfortable... and would stop sliding forward when I slow down or brake at all. She has a tendency to slam her helmet into mine.

I've always hated bike speedo's optimism. Never had a bike that wasn't "fast". Put GPS on CB and recorded speedometer vs GPS. CB clock reads absolutely same as GPS up to 80 mph. At 85 it is 1 mph fast. Finally a bike that tells the truth. This is with tires at rec'd pressures, etc.

Since Honda announced they were bringing the CB1100 to the states, I've been spending plenty of time perusing the Internet reading up as much about the bike as I could. (And to a lesser degree for a number years before then.)

I have no idea how well this bike will, or won't, sell for Honda. But I do find it interesting to see the type and amount of conversation the bike is generating. I like standards in general and not just the CB1100. Before buying my Honda, I gave serious consideration to the Bonneville T100 and the Moto Guzzi V7 along with used W650's which show up around here every once in a while. Each bike has its own appeal to me, however none of those options blew me away the way the Honda did (no surprise, I know).

Interestingly, a number of Bonneville owners on Triumph-specific forums strike me as a bit insecure when it comes to the CB1100. That surprises me somewhat to be honest. If I think about it I suppose that Honda swiped a potential sale from Triumph in my case, but I'm not sure how common this might be amongst other CB1100 owners. If I had to guess, I'd venture that the CB1100 will draw in customers that just weren't swayed enough by the Triumphs and the Moto Guzzis, etc.. Maybe I'm wrong about that. In my case, even though it's not a retro styled bike, I was more drawn to the Street Triple than the Bonneville and had already arranged financing for a purchase when the release of the CB1100 was announced.

At any rate, I see such reactions as a real positive in that garnering such attention is a far better sign than receiving no reaction at all. Like I've said before, not only would I like to see Honda do well with this bike, but I'd like to see the sales of standards in general continue to rise across the board.
