I decided to go out for a ride this weekend just as many of you did. When I got to the end of the town I decided to keep on running (A lo Forrest Gump). Ended up in the Everglades National Park. 93 straight miles through a swamp on Rt 41 Tamiami Trail from Naples to Miami, Fl.

I was hoping to see the Panther cross the street but he never showed up. I did see a wild cat strolling along the road. I think he was shy because he did not want his picture taken.

After installing the new Dart Flyscreen and a GPS carrier last week, I decided it was time to do a longer ride on the CB. I've done 1,500 mile rides before, but I broke my hip last November. In part because of that, I sold my VStrom 1000 for the smaller and more manageable CB. However, I hadn't ridden the CB more than an hour or so before Sunday.

My trip was about 400 miles, up the coast from South Florida to my Mom's place in Cocoa Beach (east of Orlando). It's possible to take surface streets like A1A or US-1, but I needed to move along so I'd have time to cut her massive yard and get home at a reasonable time, so I did it all on the Florida Turnpike and I-95.

1. The Flyscreen rocks. Where I used to feel strained at 70, now 80 or even 90 mile an hour speeds are completely comfortable. It blocks the wind perfectly, but it doesn't do squat for rain protection.

2. The bike gets a touch buzzy, but I ran it at 80+ the whole way and it ate it up. It's rock-solid at high speed; semis, cross-winds, even standing water (I hit some showers) don't phase it a bit.

3. The OEM seat is damn good, especially compared to some others I've owned. I didn't feel any fatigue at all until the last 1/2 hour of the ride back. I'm sure it could be improved on with a custom seat, but it's not a priority for me.

4. Highway mileage was over 45 per gallon! That's 10 more miles per gallon than the VStrom on it's best day.

5. Slightly lower pegs would be nice.

6. The speedometer is remarkably accurate. With the GPS on other bikes and cars I've noticed 6 - 8 miles variation (speedo too slow). The Honda is accurate to within a mile or two .

I think the CB will make an excellent sport-tourer with the right saddlebags. I'd like something like the Givi 34 hard bags, but with a narrower profile than they had on the VStrom (think Wide Load!).

I have always wanted to try out the CB900 Custom. Shaft drive, Hi/Low transmission, etc.

I would be interested to hear opinions, comments, etc. from people who have owned them or ridden them.

Do they make a nice two-up, country backroads, kind of bike? Not going to be used for long distances or interstates.

Went out for a little ride today with my son and really good friend Kevin. Son was on my old Bandit and Kevin on his nearly new Concours 14. It was a little windy about 10 to 15 mph but temp was good about 65. I was really pleased with new 1100. The cornering ability is very surprising . Could not push it to hard due to lack of break in but engine very responsive. I don't think I've ridden a better all round bike. This thing just manages to do everything without any straining . Can't wait to go out again. Went almost exactly 100 miles on 3/4 tank of gas too.

Three to five feet of heavy wet snow in the Black Hills of South Dakota. We had our "100 year" blizzard this weekend. Lots of folks without power for three days. Not sure if it will end the riding season but it might.... I'll get some photos up ASAP. Just got cable and internet back a couple of hours ago.

Any swap out their blinkers for something less....freakin gigantic?

One of my favorite upgrades is the SuperSprox sprocket. These are CNC milled, two-part sprockets with a aluminum center and a hardened steel "tooth" ring. You get the light weight of an aluminum sprocket, and the long wear of a steel one. The parts are so durable they come with a lifetime guarantee if you buy the complete kit.
I've had SuperSprox on two bikes and never wore one out. Plus they really spiff up the rear of the bike!

I asked SuperSprox to manufacture kits for our bikes, and it looks like they will. Their sales rep put a page up on their website where you can post a request for just the rear sprocket, the entire kit, or even various sizes of sprockets beyond the OEM. You don't have to buy anything, just post what you're interested in.

At 500 miles I put Honda Full Synthetic 10/30 in my CB, was hoping to get 4K between changes( with filter of course), do you think this is OK?
With normal oil I would probably do every 3K.

Well we did our first ride together me on the new CB1100 and Deb on her new 2014 Yamaha Bolt. It was the worldwide Distinguished Gentlemen's Ride, a prostate cancer fund raiser. So we dress in our gentlememly best, and jumped on the two the new scoots! We had an blast and raised a $135 from our sponsors, everybody looked their best!
