Generally, I only use the CB when I'm commuting to my local office (10 miles or so) or to tool around on in good weather. While the bike is very comfortable, I just never really considered it as a travel machine. So, it was with some skepticism that I set out to the rally in Ohio. It was exactly 349 miles door-to-door. I know that some of the folks mapped out back routes through small towns and made the trip in a couple of days, but when the mission is to get from point A to point B, I tend like to go straight at it. I rode the bike like I would my 1250 GS. Ride straight for 2 to 2.5 hours between gas stops and no dawdling. The speed limit was 70 much of the way there, and I was regularly doing 80+. It took about 5 hours and 25 minutes each way, which is a average of about 64mph, including the gas stops. At no point was the ride uncomfortable, and the bike was a remarkably smooth ride without a windscreen, and my bag made a nice back-rest....I don't typically ride 2-up, so using the rear portion of the seat for the bag was super. I'll have to re-think travelling with the CB. And other than maybe helping out in cold weather, I don't think that I'd see any real benefit in a windscreen.

Although everyone expected for the V100 to be launched at EICMA in November, the bike is out in the open. Mandello edition is the first one to be presented, I am still not aware of the full specs, but is definitely a motorcycle I cannot wait to ride

Speaking of "Other Bikes," I am reminded of my favorite bike I never had, but ALMOST did, a Vincent Black Shadow. I am sure some of you have had a bike you just missed getting, or had the chance to, but didn't. The Black Shadow came into my life, almost, in about 1971, when Scott Guthrie a friend who had a small bike repair shop in Tallahassee, put me in touch with his friend who had a Vincent Black Shadow and needed $300 quick. He rode the bike to my place and I really liked it. I had the money but we were expecting a baby any minute and that money would pay the hospital bill. Could have borrowed it, but needed a day to think about it, so I told him I'd get back to him tomorrow, but by then he found a way to get the cash and he kept his bike. Remember, in those days $300 was a month's pay for a lot of people. We were paying $65/month on a 1968 VW we had bought NEW for $1720 (it had an FM radio!). I thought about naming the kid Vincent, but she wasn't a boy, so I didn't even get that. So, what are some of your bikes that got away?

Seems like Kawasaki has something really cool in store, seems to be a a proper looking retro styled bike, teased in this video they show a glimpse of the 70's Z650, which was an air-cooled inline 4 with carbs, but the new one will likely be the z650rs based on the z650 platform that has been around for a long time. I think it's a good choice
I have been a fan of that parallel twin mill ever since my Gen1 Versys, it packs proper low and mid range torque and is a lot of fun to ride, I would definitely give this one a look

Just watched this with great interest, Don spends some time explaining and re-programming ( flashing ) The name comes from flash ram memory, an ecu in a kawasaki ninja on a dyno.

Shows what it takes and why to alter the memory of the ecu in the bike to de-restrict the engine.
