It's my fault for trying to solve a problem that I didn't really have, but I recently purchased the Cardo Freecom 4+. I specifically spent more on this thing because the speakers were advertised to be "awesome, with deep bass" in comparison to cheaper Cardo units. Uhm....no. At highway speed, listening to music, all you can hear is the very high end of the high end. Cymbals, claps, and tinny voices. Even just wearing the helmet off of the bike, the sound quality sucks. I'm sure that it's OK for a cell call or communicating over the mesh network. I don't really need to take calls while riding anyway, and I can't imagine that I'll have more than a few occasions a year to speak over the mesh network.

On the plus side, the integration into the helmet is super clean....and the ability to control the thing while gloved and riding is good.

I mainly bought the thing because I like to listen to music while on my commute, and thought that having the option to take calls would be nice on occasion. Also, my BMW R1250 "supposedly" seamlessly integrates with the helmet / phone pair and allows you to control things through the TFT. Well, yeah....sort of. You need to dive down 4 layers into the GUI, all the while removing the speedometer from the display. All to do something that takes a single swipe at the helmet unit (volume, next/previous, answer call, etc.)

I'm going back to my bluetooth ear plugs. For anybody looking for mainly a decent in-helmet audio solution, these things are FANTASTIC. They work great as just earplugs, but the audio quality is just super. The cardo isn't even in the same universe, and the bluetooth ear plugs only cost $60. No problem slipping the helmet on with these things on.

I do a good deal of mechanic work on the weekends maintaining our vehicles (SUV's, Truck, Motorcycles & Mowers) and was thinking about my most used tools over the weekend. The older I've gotten, the more I've begun to rely on Power Tools over Hand Tools.

I recently picked up new 3/8 Air Ratchet from Harbor Freight that has been excellent. I've learned to be quite picky about what I buy from HF, there are some gems and some...well, pieces of crap I've found along the way. I have a number of Hercules Tools, and they all have been flawless. The new 3/8 Air Ratchet is "Earthquake" brand which I haven't tried prior to this. So far, it's been a fantastic tool for me needs and has performed without issue.



Curious if any of you have found any Tools that have become your go-to, can't do without tools in your shop?

I don't ride my CB 1100 as much as I used to since the mileage is getting up there on it. I bought the NC 750X DCT(the quarter horse) to use as a daily rider for keeping the miles down on the CB. So I ride it every day for the most part.

Today was Sunday, and a perfect day for a ride on the CB1100 (the pleasure horse). This morning before it got too hot I rolled the CB out, fired it up and let it warm up. Leaving my driveway I have a 7/10 mile road at 25 mph. Hit the stop sign at the end of the road and turn right and you drop down a 45 mph hill into a right hand/left hand switch back curve, a 100 yard straight then a right hand, left hand, right hand up hill set of curves.

At 2.8 miles into the ride I noticed I was smiling. Wasn't forced, just happened. 66 miles later I pulled back into the garage and smiled again.

Love riding my CB!

Currently I'm around Sölden in the Austrian Alps (Ötztal) in vacation, hiking with spouse and dog.

Yesterday, waiting for the bus in Obergurgl I discovered out of a sudden a small exibition of historical Indians in the building next to me. And there it was, the Indian of Burt Munro, still holding the world record for motorcycles below 1,000 ccm! Unbelievable.

There was a couple this morning at the store , he rode a nice Gold Wing and she had a nice looking Bobber , very limited suspension on the bike but she had plenty of padding" herself and therefor the ride was not bad at all she said.

Thought I would share a Mechanical Drawing I just finished up with all of you for grins. I began my career as a Mechanical Drafter on a Drafting Board. Spent ten years on a Board before making the leap to 2D CAD, then 3D CAD ten years after that. Although I enjoy 3D CAD Modeling, I find I miss laying lines on a Drafting Board, so for the safe of nostalgia, I broke out my old Drafting Board (had to restore it back to it's former glory), found all my old Drafting Tools and went to work on drawing a CB to my liking. Really enjoyed it and will most likely continue drawing on the Board in the evenings when I have time.

I'm currently teaching Drafting to some young guys and I was explaining the history of Drafting technologies and it got me thinking I ought to knock out a few Drawings on my old Board for fun. Anyway, enough jibber jabber, on to the Drawing.
