CB1100 as a traveller - tommymck - 09-10-2021
Generally, I only use the CB when I'm commuting to my local office (10 miles or so) or to tool around on in good weather. While the bike is very comfortable, I just never really considered it as a travel machine. So, it was with some skepticism that I set out to the rally in Ohio. It was exactly 349 miles door-to-door. I know that some of the folks mapped out back routes through small towns and made the trip in a couple of days, but when the mission is to get from point A to point B, I tend like to go straight at it. I rode the bike like I would my 1250 GS. Ride straight for 2 to 2.5 hours between gas stops and no dawdling. The speed limit was 70 much of the way there, and I was regularly doing 80+. It took about 5 hours and 25 minutes each way, which is a average of about 64mph, including the gas stops. At no point was the ride uncomfortable, and the bike was a remarkably smooth ride without a windscreen, and my bag made a nice back-rest....I don't typically ride 2-up, so using the rear portion of the seat for the bag was super. I'll have to re-think travelling with the CB. And other than maybe helping out in cold weather, I don't think that I'd see any real benefit in a windscreen.

Would like to know the exact location where ^this^ beaute' is normally parked...... don't you leave the ignition key nearby...sometimes?

I would really like to use this pic as the benchmark at which someday I would like my 13 to look like! Gorgeous bike! As far as riding and commuting on my 13, I absolutely love it! I work 35 miles from home, 29 of it done on the expressway, and I also don't have a windsheild sheild. I do look from time to time, but haven't pulled the trigger....

I've ridden my CB 698 miles in 12 hours flat coming back from the Arkansas rally in 2017 and I think Empty Sea rode another few hours after that ( we rode together for part of the trip.
As far as distance we have at least 1 member who has tagged all of the lower 48 states on his.

2013 HONDA CB1100
Samurider has pictures of 2013's with stock wheels and the K10 tank and side cover. It looks just as good in my opinion. While you can go hog-wild changing out everything from wheels and fenders to exhaust and headlamp housing, the biggest bang comes from the tank and side covers in my opinion. The 2017 seat doesn't fit (well) with the K10 tank, so I replaced that also (and happen to like how it feels and the fact that it sits higher) but my understanding is that the 2013s can live with the stock seat. It's still not cheap, but it's also not completely outlandish (well, maybe it is, but I seemed to be able to justify it...)

I may try and find a painter locally and color match w/the stock paint and find the jewel honda wing emblems as well. Hopefully they can get it together over in Japan and start getting some things back in stock. There are definitely some great pics on Samurider for the 13. Thank you for the input!!!
