Well, I went and looked at and rode a 2007 Yamaha V-Star from a large dealer in the Ft. Worth area of TX. The bike was in great shape with only 20k miles. It was massive, and very heavy, 800lbs, and the shift lever was very high, rendering the heel shifter unusable, but that could be addressed, I'm sure. The price seemed very reasonable, until the finance guy showed me the numbers. They had a $600 charge on there for an all-over, all-inclusive service they claim to have done. They were a little flexible on it, but not much, and with taxes and other fees, the price was significantly higher than the ask. I'm starting to think maybe I'll see how the wife likes riding pillion on the CB. There's a topbox she can lean against, I can make the pegs larger, maybe add some more padding into the seat or get her an Airhawk. Hmmm...

I was doing some research on service schedules for various bikes and I see Suzuki have followed Honda's practice of NOT recommending an oil filter change at every oil service. Our CB is recommended every other oil change as is the Africa Twin and I'm sure a lot of other Honda bikes too.

But Suzuki, on their latest 2023 V-Strom 800DE only want you to change the oil filter every third oil change, albeit they are every 6,000km.

I applaud this realism in what an oil filter is being asked to do and how much less work they need to do on todays modern engines. It saves the consumer another cost and is reducing the amount of resources used. The argument being that as the filter ages it is increasingly adept of filtering ever finer particles without detrimental loss of flow.

And on that subject here is me doing a 3000km oil change today on my flat four powered air-cooled machine (VW style) which doesn't even have an oil filter, just a single weight SAE30 oil with a high zinc content.

Does anybody roam around cycle trader and YouTube and wonder if it might be nice to own a more exotic bike? . I test rode a Moto Guzzi V7 a few years back and it was pretty cool. I saw a 2013 MG 110 HP Griso model with low miles for $8k. Then I go to a discussion forum and see threads about replacing sensors,taking the rear end apart to grease swing arm bearings, and having to have valves replaced at 25k mikes because of a bad design and metal fatigue. There are also a lot of newer Moto Guzzi V85 TT adventure bikes that have all the cool electronic features. What I miss the most are a quick shifter and/or Honda DCT, and cruise control. I have been having wrist pain on my left hand from using the clutch. I previously had the NC 700x with the DCT but it was underpowered for me. I also owned a VFR1200x with the DCT but it was just too darn heavy for me. So, I feel stuck right now. I don’t want to spend more than $10k but I really need a quick shifter or DCT. Long time since my post and still a proud CB owner. Since I want to keep my CB for a long time in the future I have a
question for more experienced. I have what I believe water spots on and in between engine fins.
How do I remove them?
Learned my lesson, been using air blower now after the wash.

I would be very grateful for your suggestions.

A few weeks ago, I drove up to visit some friends in the Western Sierras northeast of Sacramento.

I had heard about a motorcycle museum called Moto Talbott, not too far off of the 101 between Salinas and Monterey, right near Laguna Seca Raceway, but had never had an opportunity to check it out. I was driving home on 101 (Highway 1 along the coast is still closed), so I carved out a little time to check it out.

It's located in Carmel Valley Village, which is along a neat twisty road that made me wish I was driving something other than a rental car. It's a very cool little museum, packed with some unique and unusual bikes.

If you find yourself between LA and San Francisco, or are in the Monterey area for some reason, it's worth a stop and a few hours to poke around. My next wish is to see the Solvang motorcycle museum, but I can never catch it on one of the few days it's open.

Anyone have spoke wheels that will fit the '14 standard model?Im wanting to swap the cast wheels to spokes,thanks

I ride a 2014 standard model with 12k miles. After a 75 mile ride where I was occasionally pushing the rpms to the redline, I noticed a slight film of oil on the steel part of the lines going into and coming out of the oil cooler. It was a very minimal amount but obviously I have some concern. I couldn’t determine the source of the oil and the bike is running great. I wiped the oil off and will continue to monitor it. Has anybody had this happen? Do I need to look into replacing those lines?

I'm thinking of using Motul 10w30 JASO MA2 in my Honda CB1100RS (as it's not flaming £50) but the recommended oil is JASO MA The extra 'grab' on the clutch isn't a problem but here's a question from someone that knows nothing about oil does that extra 'friction' result in faster wear?

Since 1969 I have owned just about every family of bikes Honda has made from a PC50, CB's, V45/65, VTX, ST1300, Gold Wing, and a few others. One thing has been consistent among all of them. I love Honda bikes, but I would have even paid a little more knowing they came with good well designed seat. You would have thought that Honda would have fired or retired the seat designer by now!

CB1100 has always been a key player in vintage cars, 4-cylinder sound wave, retro look, air cold last generation, still the outline of the CB family from the 90s
But CB1100 has a lot of restrictions for the modification market. Electronic systems need to keep a signal back from each part in order not to interfere with the original computer.
Even if the original is done, the electronic speed limit will limit it to a speed that feels like the engine still has a lot of power
I still feel like it's not good enough after I get the speed limit.
Limited to the mini size of throttle
CB1100 true performance has never been solved
The ignition module and carburetor have been carefully adjusted by the horsepower
We see the potential of this engine

Same as those old big four-cylinder seniors
