Hi all!

I spent a few hours today installing a Delkevic 9" muffler and stainless exhaust. I also fitted some new mirrors, a milled oil cap from a fellow member, and plasti-dipped panels.

I'm going to do a full frame re-paint, tank re-paint and spoked wheels next year, so I decided to go ahead with some simple mods to see what I like.

If anyone wants links, I'm happy to post them. I can also make some videos of the new pipes and how they sound.

A quick review:
Pros
- Deeper sound at idle, but not too loud
- Amazing upper-end howl
- Competitive price
- Superb fit and finish
- Easy installation (at least once I made a 17mm O2 sensor tool from a husky wrench)
Cons
- No instructions in the box
- Maybe a few too many pops on deceleration

In anticipation of new wheels next year, I did a (terrible) gold rim tape to see if I liked it.

I've also got a Renthal bar, Renthal grips, Emgo windshield and a couple of other bits. Anyway, on to photos.

Let me know if you want videos to hear the new setup! I'd also be happy to show folks how to make a simple O2 sensor tool or do a tutorial on the whole process. I made mistakes that are easy to rectify if you know what to do.










I should mention that with the O2 sensor reinstalled in the new collector, I've had no warning lights and no fueling issues. Delkevic really did their homework. This kit is insanely well done for the money.

For those wondering, I'm sporting Metzler Z8s for tires. I've also replaced the signal lights with some I bought from a fellow forumer member that they sourced from Samurider.

Well today I went Monkey shopping, as I just cant seem to get the idea of my CB having a little brother out of my head, LOL.. I was shopping for the ABS version, that has an MSRP of $4200.00 . One dealer showed me a price of $5500 out the door, before negotiation, but did not comment further because he had them on order, not on hand.

Another dealer I went to quoted me $4762.00 out the door, and had the bike on the floor. I had also copied the sales receipt a seller on EBay posted on his Monkey ABS up for auction, which showed he had paid $4869.00 out the door. Last I saw it, he was down to a $3600 asking price, so I am guessing he had buyers remorse for whatever reason.

So, my question for those of my Forum Brothers that have already purchased a Monkey, how did the pricing go? I dont imagine there is a whole lot of margin in them, and then with freight, and TT&L, $4762.00 does not look unreasonable at the moment.

One of the very few things I dislike about my ‘17 cb1100 are the grips. After 30 minutes or so on the bike, my hands get numb from vibration. I do wear fairly thin gloves, so this may be the issue .Any opinions on decent vibration absorbing open end grip options? Thanks

While at the Born Free show on Saturday, there was no way that my wife and I could see all of the hundreds of bikes that were parked on the grass inside the show area before my wife said "ok, that's enough pot smoke for me, and the bikes are all looking the same to me now, can we go?"

But, of all the bikes that were there, the one that literally nobody looked at was the new Harley Livewire.

Harley had a substantial display of all of their new offerings, and making our way around handlebars and pipes, we came upon the Livewire. No ropes around it, out in the open on the grass for all the poking and prodding one would want to do. But, for the full ten minutes I stared, knelt down, poked and prodded, nobody else could give it the time of day.

My wife noticed that I was the only person who seemed to be interested in a bike that is supposed to be somewhat special. She asked "Aren't these things supposed to be a big deal?"
"Yes, they are."
"Why isn't anyone looking at it?"
"These people are traditional Harley enthusiasts. They wouldn't be interested in a Harley that doesn't make noise."
"Then who's going to buy it?"
"Probably people who will put them in collections and never ride them."
"Then why bother if nobody will ride them?"
"Marketing. But not to these people."

At the Born Free show on Saturday, after my wife and I had each bought a few t-shirts and trinkets, we realized we needed to carry that stuff on our five mile hike back home. We started looking for vendors handing out bags.

Better yet, people were toting Russ Brown string backpacks. Russ Brown is the local biker personal injury attorney, with billboards across LA and Orange counties.

We found the Russ Brown booth, and stood in line to get a string bag, which of course had key rings, pens and other swag items slathered with their phone number.

To get a bag, I had to fill out an information card for their new program which promoted "bikers helping bikers." I've been in marketing for years, and have devised ways to get people to fill out information capture cards, but this was truly unique. After filling in my name, phone number, address and email, there were a series of boxes. If a rider in distress were near my home, would I be willing to help them by:
- Bringing them a gallon of gas
- Transporting their disabled motorcycle in your own truck
- Let someone store a disabled bike in your garage for a few days
- Visit someone in the hospital who was injured in a motorcycle accident
- Lending them tools

After checking all of the boxes that applied (I don't own a truck, but everything else? Sure, why not) I turned the card in and got the bag to carry our stuff home in.

They say that they're adding all of this information to their database, so that if a rider is in distress, they can call the Russ Brown office, and they can find a rider nearby who's willing to help. Heck, what biker wouldn't want to help a brother or sister in distress.

Even if the whole thing was just a way to capture my information, it's one more flyer to toss and one more email to delete. But, someday, I might get that call. Ya never know....

The CB1100 is just a few miles shy of 8000 miles. I've already replaced the front with the same model and size Bridgestone that came on the bike, at 5640 miles last August.

Just ordered a new one for the rear which should be at the shop in a few days. The rear made it to 8000 miles. It was ok for bombing around here when the roads were dry, but didn't have much life left.

For once, I didn't go for another brand or larger rear tire. I like the way the bike handles on the Bridgestones. Went with the BT54R in 140/70 R18
I'm thinking the front tire wore out quickly because the Honda isn't exactly a lightweight, and she has a bunch of brake on the front end.

Years ago, I recall that most of the Beemers I rode would generally wear out two rear tires for every front tire. Recent bikes have typically worn out both front and rear tires at approximately the same mileage.

This is the first time I've had to replace a front tire long before the rear needed replacing.

I had a 2013 CB1100 I bought used with a Dart classic flyscreen. I didn't really care for how it looked, but was too lazy to remove it. I averaged a calculated 53 MPG over 9K miles with that bike. Last June they were practically giving away left-over 2014's, so I sold my 2013 and bought a 2014. I was disappointed to see that the 2014 was only averaging a calculated 50 MPG for the first 4K miles, even with a 6th gear. On Saturday I installed a Dart classic flyscreen on the 2014 and was astounded to see my calculated MPG jump from 50-51 to 55-56 MPG. The computer MPG shows a similar (but inflated) jump.

Has anyone else experienced this MPG boost after installing a windscreen? There must be a lot of turbulence created by the instrument cluster.

Recently picked up a 2013 standard with 1300 miles. Bike is in excellent condition aesthetically, and seemed like it was perfect mechanically as well. Previous owner did all the maintenance and fluids and always kept in garage on a tender. Test rode a short distance and it is was fine.
After riding for about an hour, the bike seemed to start hesitating. When I pulled out of the highway it died at the light, didn’t really want to start back up but did, and kept dying as I would stop. Put fresh gas and injector cleaner but hasn’t made a difference.

The other day I went to ride again and it won’t rev past 6k after it’s warmed up. When cold, it’ll pull hard to redline, and doesn’t have any issues, but after warm, it wants to die and hesitates/sluggish. I was on the highway and downshift to pass, and it seemed like it just cut off/died and I started to pull off the highway but popped the clutch to see if it would bump start and then it picked back up and I was able to keep going.

Other day it died when I pulled off the highway and wouldn’t start, kept clicking like the battery was dead. I think the battery is okay since I don’t render it and it starts without issues when cold, even after a week or two with no riding.


No idea what’s going on or what to look for as I’ve usually worked on carbureted engines.

Anyone have this issue before?

Rode a loop up to Butte Meadows today, 195' elevation in Chico, 4300' at Butte Meadows. Rode up Hwy 32 turned right onto the much less traveled road to B.M. and arrived at the Bambi Inn about an hour from home. Always get a kick out of the effortless way this machine climbs the hills! Seems to like working better than cruising on the flat.

Got an Drumstick ice cream and chatted a bit with the bartender. A long deserted bar and a couple of pool tables. The place probably gets going in the evening.
Came back over the ridge thru Sterling City, Magalia, and Paradise, which is unfortunately still a mess and will be for some time. 95 miles, great mountain roads, not much traffic. Three hours door to door, a great ride!
