Yesterday my wife and I went to Born Free, a huge biker gathering in Santiago Canyon near our home. Thousands of mostly Harleys, it’s a scene, a happening and a full sensory immersion in motorcycles.

Rather than ride, we hike the canyon road to the event, so we can watch the bikes coming and going along the way. In large part, one chopper or bagger after another.

But, on the way home I heard a swarm of bikes that didn’t come from Milwaukee. A group of Bosozoku style bikes rode past us before I could grab any photos. If you don’t know what this style of bike is, I highly suggest Googling and taking a look at this very unique culture. Many Honda based bikes.

At the show, I saw a shirt I had to buy. It says “Hello Engine.” This is what Steve McQueen says in the Sand Pebbles when he sees the ship’s steam engine for the first time. And, bonus L.A. area road trip, that movie prop engine can be seen onboard the S.S. Lane Victory in Long Beach.

My 2014 CB1100 Standard/Black is fast approaching 8000 miles (not km.) I have copied Popgun's 'from the book' page on 'how to do.'

Question - can someone post a pic showing me specifically where the adjuster is located?

One more question. re valve clearances. I'm considering riding the remainder of this season (another 4-6k) without checking the valve clearances. Based on the spreadsheet data showing when several owners checked their clearances, it appeared that the valve clearances on the CB engine tend to stay in spec for way more than 8000 miles. Realize this is quite subjective issue.

Today Goldilocks got a chance to ride all 3 motorcycles in the garage

The FJR was tall, about 32 1/2 inches in the saddle, powerful with a 146 hp, 1300cc liquid cooled I-4. Shaft drive, abs, cruise, tc and a full fairing , bags and trunk it is a very refined sport tourer....it was heavy too at about 630 pounds. It pulled strongly throught the rev range, but had to be ridden with caution, because it had so much power. In reality it is just too much, just TOO BIG.

Then he rode the CB500X, it was very light weight, and skinny, with a willing little liquid cooled 500cc parallel twin engine, with 50 something horsepower, chain drive, a single disc front brake and a 6 speed trans. A willing little revver that needed to be, because it didnt have much power. Whenever letting off the gas or breaking for a corner, a down shift or two was required to build up a head of steam again. The tach needle was always swinging by 5 grand just to run the speed limit. It seemed in the end this bike was just TOO SMALL.


Then he rode the CB 1100 dlx. A liter class air cooled I-4. 88 hp with a 6 speed transmission that shifted like butter, abs, triple disc brakes and chain drive. It had a fairly low seat height, under 31 inches. Weighing between the little 500 and the big 1300, and with horsepower and torque between them as well, it was easy to ride, handled great and pulled out of curves strongly without requiring downshifting. The speed limit was easy to run at 2500-3500 Rpms. It was a beautiful bike too with pretty red paint and lots of chrome.

In the end this bike was determined to be JUST RIGHT!

Back from 14 days, 3000 miles, 2 tubes of 100 SPF sunblock and killing a gazillion bugs with my body and my motorbike.

The Three Twisted Sisters west of Austin, Texas (Farm Roads 335, 336, 337) are a must-do for motorcycles. The roads are really too narrow for much fun with a sports car (tried it in my Honda S2000 years ago) and the guardrails are scary close, but on two wheels you've got more wiggle room. Very twisty. Watch. Out. For. DEER!!! (I encountered about a dozen crossing the road or thinking about it ... every truck has a big protective grill guard, even a few Camrys had them!) You'll be passing slower Harleys, but when I went, traffic was very, very light and few vehicles were encountered. Watch out for police patrolling 337. Gas stations are near the bottom of the Sisters in the towns along 337.

Other highlights are:

Fredericksburg: Kinda touristy walking strip downtown ... the Pacific War Museum is nicely set up and huge, but like reading a book standing up. I spent one stormy day reading books in their old historic library.

Kerrville: Good home base ... Super 8 had a refreshing pool, rags for motorcycles, modern rooms, nice free breakfast buffet and cheaper than the local Motel 6. The Western Art Museum is just okay.

Comfort: Historic center is tricky to find, but nice little antique shops and B&Bs if you have the budget for that sort of thing.

Mason: Very lovely town square with antique stores and some dining. Cooper's Pit BBQ with outdoor smoker is divine! Hill Country Inn was a favorite cheap motel in that area with TWO bathrooms and huge TV. Also enjoyed riding Farm Road 386 north of town.

Two Fat Boys BBQ in Leakey, Texas is a good food stop while doing the Three Twisted Sisters, as is the Bent Rim Grill, which seems to be the Harley Headquarters.

And of course the Lone Star Motorcycle Museum in Vanderpool, Texas is a must-see. I uploaded a Imgur album in the Photos section of this forum. I expected a lame collection of a couple of junky bikes, but it turned out to be very impressive. Limited hours on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

This is my 2nd season with the new CB, and I'm pretty damn excited for the change in weather here on the east coast (finally). I'm a vintage guy (with a '67 CB450), but once I finally took the leap to grab a '13 CB1100 I'm pretty da*n pleased. Modern equip is spoiling me.

Sure, I painted her to look more throw back, swapped the tank badges for the classic wing!, and lightened up the look with a cleaner taillight set up and signals ... but for the most part Honda just got this update to the legendary CB line right!

Glad to be a CB1100 rider, and part of the forum.

When I went thru the box with the Moriwaki 4 into 4 there was a side stand included to put on the 2013 when using the 4 into 4.
This one has a larger foot than the original 2013. When checking my 2014 side stand I noticed that the foot on the 2014 is bigger than the 2013 and is the same as Mr. T included for installing with the exhaust. I than checked my 2017 and this one has also a bigger foot than the 2013 but narrower than the 2014 ! I had already ordered a foot extender ( as per Peterbaron ) but might not need it now for the 2013. The 2013 has quite a small foot on the side stand and perhaps that is the reason Honda went bigger for later years (after too many fall overs ?)

I don't have a garage for the riding months so my bike is in my driveway covered all summer. I'm looking to see what you all recommend for an all weather cover that'll last me more than 2 years. I bought a Bilt one last year and already has 2 tears and looks like it's 10 years old!

I love the 2017 CB1100 eX...looking to purchase first bike

whats a good price for used? ~$7K would be my comfort level
New old stock: will the price drop like it did for 2014 models?
when will new version come out/any news (2020 model)?

Seems like Honda only imports a few years and then stops (supply/demand), any reason?

These bikes are not plentiful on CL...is there a better place to look for used
This will be my first bike and I am 44 years old

Ultimately, I will be looking to add Cozy sidecar to this bike (Triumph)...love the classic look and feel.

Just had this riser on my bike. It's made from Taiwan, the finishing is pretty good. 2cm higher only as the throttle cable stretches a bit, could go higher if re-routing the cable.



First impression after a short riding was much more comfortable compared to stock setting. Worth a upgrade. Here is link on ebay in case someone would need it.
