Not even two weeks with my new to me 14 cb black on black and I’m really surprised by the number of comments I’ve gotten on the bike. From motorcycle get togethers to being stopped at intersections.

Don’t get me wrong, I think it’s a great looking bike. But I’m an air cooled Honda aficionado. So this bike really checked the boxes for me. But I really underestimated what others might think. Add to the fact these things seem to be as rare as unicorns in many parts.

The ‘cool’ factor never crossed my mind.

OK, I easily removed the wheel and tire earlier today, took it to my favorite tire shop for removal of old tre and install of new.

The instructions in the Owners Manual are minimal at best. I digress.

I may have misinterpreted the manual, and removed the caliper AND its carrier as a unit, leaving only the caliper and pads hanging on a nylon strap to keep pressure off the brake hose and electrical wiring (to the brake light?)

1. Was I supposed to unbolt the caliper from the carrier before removing the rear wheel?

2. Is it possible to replace the pads without removing the axle and the caliper carrier? In other words can the wheel stay on the bike when changing rear pads?

It was difficult, but I was able to get the wheel/tire back under the fender, and able to align adjusters, spacers, and brake mount and caliper.

For some reason, the rear brake doesn't feel as powerful as before I started this operation. However, I can rotate the rear wheel by hand with bike on centerstand, and I hear no strange sounds. Rear rotor did feel considerably warmer than front rotors after a short ride.

Can I pull only the brake caliper and pads just to make certain everything is where it should be. On visual examination, pads seem to be where they're supposed to be ...... one to the left of the rotor, the other to the right.

Embarrassed to have to ask this question. I've been doing my own maintenance for 30 years, and never experienced an issue changing front or rear pads.

I did locate a couple of posts from Delphisa and LongRanger that made it look as though I'd really done it the hard way ..... that I should have unbolted the one 12mm bolt that holds the caliper to the mounting plate.

Woke up early. nagging thought. 'I'm supposed to be doing something this morning.'

Oh, yeah ...... pull the back wheel, put it in the car trunk, and get it to Perry at Dougherty's to mount a new BT54.

So, off to the garage to do just that!

This afternoon promises to be another beautiful day here in NE Ohio, perfect for breaking in a new tire.

I've been searching for workshop manuals and seems that there is no manuals for the 2017 up cb1100
They didn't make that many modifications to the bikes, but there are some, like the LED headlight, slightly different mufflers, wire wheels, etc
Is there any hope that Honda release's this?
My bike warranty ends in 7 months, and I plan on doing my maintenances

I'm sure there is a monster thread somewhere with mountains of info regarding brake pads. I'm one of the Vietnam members so ordering parts can be &$^$#^$%&^&

This is mostly to do with having no postcodes / zip codes and corrupt customs officials &^*&^%&^%

Anyway, where can I find out the list of bikes that the CB1100 shares it's break pads with? I seem to remember the front and rear pads are not unique parts. If I have a list of bikes it may make it easier for me to locate. I have used Samurider before but hoping for something a bit quicker.

I'm just about to do the first major work on my 2013 CB11 (30k km). It's gonna get new tyres (Bridgestone Battlax BT-54), chain, sprocket, other minor stuff.

These are currently on there way, so in 2-3 weeks I hope to have the lot ready for the big makeover. Any other bits I might wish to consider? (no need to change forks themselves right?)

My Bonnyville owning with OLINS fitted mechanic mate will help me get everything fitted. I'm especially interested in the difference in ride between original (5 years old) and new, and the differences the various Ikon settings will make with the new tyres. If anyone is interested I will report back.

I consider this my retirement bike (I'm 50), so plan on continuing to glide around Vietnam trouble free for quite a few more years yet. The retro looks certainly help with this.
