... and then they won't ship the correct one till you drop off the wrong one at the UPS station ...

Guy on the FJR forum posted this in a thread by someone wanting to get louder mufflers for his bike...made me laugh:

I want my exhaust as LOUD as I can get it. This accomplishes several things for me.


1. It lets my neighbors know who the Alpha Male is in our neighborhood. Nothing screams "Screw you I am more important than you are" at 3am quite like revving up my engine before work.


2. Loud Pipes Save Lives. I have saved so many lives that my hometown has staged parades for me. I am a local hero. The entire fire department, the local EMTs and the hospital staff combined have not saved as many lives as I have with my Loud Pipes. Little old ladies approach me in the grocery store to thank me for Saving them with my Loud Pipes. But I just ignore them. I am far too cool for such things with my loud pipes.


3. The Dyno has clearly shown that I can gain 0.000406 horsepower. That's a lot when you consider that my FJR only puts down about 125 at the rear tire.


4. Now I fit in with the Harley Riders. Before my Loud Pipes the HD guys would not let me ride with them. I felt like Rudolph with his red nose. They would not let me play any Reindeer Games. But now I am One of Them. We make it a point to rev our engines at gas stations, bar room parking lots and when we ride in front of nursing homes. We especially LOVE to rev the engine when we are backing into a parking spot. It makes folks think we have Reverse.


5. My loud pipes are a lot lighter than the quiet pipes. I lost 5 pounds per muffler. That weight is really low so a normal rider can't really feel it but since I am so awesome I can ride much faster than I could before. 10 pounds of weight loss from a bike that weighs 640 plus unloaded is huge! I could have gone on a diet, maybe done some exercise and lost more than 10 pounds myself but then my black leather vest with the patches wouldn't fit right anymore.

Last week, Rudi (my dog) and I took a road trip to Northern Michigan on our CB1100 sidecar rig. (Yes, it's Rudi's sidecar. I actually wrote a much more detailed post about this trip, but decided to just post the pictures, since they're worth a lot more than the words.

On the ride today the girl and I rode out to the dealership where I bought my CB from in Alton Illinois. (Was looking to check out some gear, and they are the only shop in my area open on Sundays) The salesman that worked with me on my purchase was kind enough to give us a little tour of the back! According to him, the shop owner is a Honda guy all the way, even though he owns a Harley dealership. So I was able to take a peek at his extensive collection of Honda's. Most of them were tucked away among many other bikes. But the CBX was out where I could snap a couple of quick photos of it.

With a great motorcycle...comes great responsibility......to buy lots of gear!

The girlfriend and I have both bought new helmets, and we have been GIVEN not one, but TWO riding jackets for FREE! A friend of ours who no longer rides gave us a very nice Triumph summer jacket with shoulder, elbow and back pads. And the girlfriends grandfather gave me an old leather jacket from the 80's? Not exactly sure the age, but it is in good condition. Maybe just a little something to shine up the leather a bit. I will attempt to post links below for photos!

We both went with the dual visor style helmets. I felt like this would be a good choice so that I could be lazy and not have to change out visors for day/night riding. Mine originally game with the inner visor tinted, and the outer clear. But I decided to buy new ones to change the look up. I very much like the new outer visor being tinted, I love that reflective look it has. Not that i can see myself while I ride, but I'm vain so it makes me feel good. =) But I do not care for the yellow tinted inner visor for night riding. It's not very dark, but it is just enough that I feel like it is impairing my vision. And with the outer visor up it lets in just enough air which creeps under the inner visor and right into my eyes. So I may experiment with changing up the visors in the future. Overall I am very happy with the helmet.

The GF is still undecided on hers I would say. At first she said it is uncomfortable, then after our ride today she said that once she pulled/tilted it downward towards her chin that it was better. Not sure if that means it's a keeper or not. Both of us are wanting to replace the cheek pads to accommodate the shape of our faces better. We both complained about the helmets being a little tight in the cheek area. I may give mine some time to break in before ordering different ones. Maybe a little time being worn will help them fit better.

As for the jackets; the leather I have not worn yet as it is quite hot outside, and the jacket is very thick and warm. The Triumph summer jacket is perfect for the heat. Yes it is black, and still warmer than wearing just a t-cuss. BUT, sweat is better than road rash, and it does breath nicely. On my lone ride this morning I tried it out (the girl has taken it for herself when we ride together) and at 80-85 degrees on a partially cloudy day, it felt GREAT! In the shady parts of my ride I felt like I could have worn more than just a t-shirt underneath the jacket. I'm planning on buying something similar to this one for myself soon.

Not a Honda dealership, but Guth recommended a place in Portland for work on the 2017 CB1100ex. Mainly stuff I don't want to do: tires changes and valve inspection.

I visited Cycletune yesterday and asked about tires. Got an email reply with 4 options. Any strong opinions? Of 1) grip, 2) longevity and 3) price, I like #2 and 3 better because I'm not an agressive rider, and I don't ride the CB in the rain much.

Ferret, you've owned your FJR for a bit over a year now. Given the choice, for the same money and for the type of riding you enjoy, which do you prefer and which would you buy again?

Hi all,

New to the CB1100 club. Previously owned a Fireblade and I still have a couple of old 70’s Honda’s in the garage.

Not a stranger to bike maintenance, but I have a couple of questions.

1. How do these silver caps come off?

2. Can you use ABBA bike stands with these bikes? I know the centre stand should cover most things, but occasionally an ABBA stand might be better.
