Just bought a CB1100 lovely thing to ride ,i'm wondering if anyone has the colour code for the R/H crank case cover its grey but is there a colour code?

Today's the start of my 8-day ride through Tirol and the Dolomites. It's my sixth motorcycling trip in the Alps. For those who have never ridden in Switzerland, Austria, or Italy, the experience (roads, food, culture, motorcycling vibe) is thoroughly immersive and unlike anything you'd find in the U.S. or Canada. Anyway, pics to follow.

Yesterday I was having my clutch and brake fluid changed at my local shop. I was in the show room talking to the sales guys when I got a page over the PA.."MICKEY, PLEASE COME TO YOUR MOTORCYCLE". So I walk back thru the shop doors and the head mechanic who is working on my my bike says "stand right here and look at your back wheel" as he spins it. Son up a gun, there is a wobble. We stop the wheel and look real close and sure enough there is a scrape of the rim, right where the wobble is. Dang pot holes.

It's holding air, and who knows how long it's been there, so I'm not going to worry about it until winter. He said the front was alright and wondered how I bent the rear but not the front? They don't call me the wheelie king for nothing, I told him. (actually they don't call me that. I haven't done a wheelie in 30 years lol)

They gave me the name of a place they use here in town that does great work straightening rims called Wheel Doctor. I looked at their website last night and they do amazing work. Mine would be like treating a bruise compared to some of the rims they showed and fixed.

Anyhow got new clutch and brake fluid, he checked chain tension and lubed the chain, and lubricated all the pivot points like sidestand, centerstand etc and now it's ready for the rally.

I had been casually looking (checking Craigslist and other local neighborhood buy/sell sites 8 times a day) for an interesting little bike, preferably a Honda. A friend gave me an old CT90 in fair condition, but I remember the old clunky 3-speed with auto-clutch, so passed it to another friend.

But Sunday I found an original owner 1968 S90 in the rare white color. Picked it up today, and it is in great shape, not started for a few months, but rust and dent free.
Only needs tires, not bad for 50 years old. Will make a nice pair with my 305 Dream.

With changes to my self-employed health insurance status in 2019, I decided to add the maximum personal injury coverage I could on my Progressive policy ($25,000). At the time near the end of the policy term, it was only $100 or so.

So glad I did.

This is less than 24 hours in the hospital for concussion, broken collarbone and some minor abrasions on my arm:

Funny, I don't remember that many nurses in my bed. Must have been the champagne they ordered.

It doesn't include the ambulance ride ($2000), the doctor's time ($850), more bloodwork ($150) and follow-up visits with the orthopedic physician's assistant (so far $200 a pop).

Some of the crazier charges include about $1000 for 30 minutes of "physical therapy evaluation" ... which translates into walking me around for 10 minutes and asking me questions about my name and such to see if I can answer.

The big ticket items were x-rays and body scans ... about $12,000 before discount. I guess that's the infamous machine that goes "ping."

This afternoon in Oelrichs, South Dakota, 2013 Honda CB1100D Serial #001742 rolled 100,000 miles and became a member of the CB Eleven-Hundred Thousand Mile Club.

A brief synopsis since riding out of the dealer's shop in September 2013...

Average of 48 mpg for approximately (at least) 2,100 US gallons gasoline consumed. Has burned 85 OCT to 91 OCT both gasohol and non-ethanol fuel with no discernible difference in performance (from this rider).

21 tires replaced and installed, 7 front and 14 rear
23 Oil and filter changes (92 Qts of Honda GN-4 10W-30 motor oil and 23 FRAM 6017A oil filters). Original drain plug gasket still in use, no seeps, weeps or leaks.

Corbin seat installed at 8,000 mi. and Street Shield installed at 25,000 mi. Grab-On foam grips at 1,000 mi. and replaced at 97,000 mi. Otherwise bike is factory stock and set up as from dealer.

Valves checked at 15,000 mi. and all in spec., no adjustment necessary (I intend to have them checked again at 115,000 miles and report values).

Air filter replaced at 47,717 mi.
Rear axle replaced at 64,000 mi. as I stripped the threads when changing a tire (totally my bad).
Chain and sprockets replaced at 54,178 mi. and 91,184 mi.
Fuel Pump (and filter) replaced at 74,788 mi.
Original brake pads (front and rear) also replaced at 74,788 mi.

Original battery replaced at 91,184 mi. The factory original battery was still working fine but I decided that it was "time". It had never been placed on a battery or "trickle" charger.

Original spark plugs still installed (plugs pulled at 64,000 mi. and 2 were regapped and all were reinstalled).
Original brake fluid still installed.
Original everything else (unless I forgot something).

The machine really felt "run in" or "broken-in" at 25,000 mi. when it began to run smoother and produce best power.

After this initial 100,000 mi. test ride I think that I'll keep it. Not a bad machine after all!

Got a great deal on a almost-never used Tiros K-style seat. It's a bit taller, wider and flatter than stock. I'm hoping it allows me to ride with a little less knee bend and changed the butt-to-seat contact points a little.

I'm not entirely sure of the pedigree of this seat. Calcb sold me the seat and was absolutely wonderful to deal with. I think he told me that he got an extra seat with a bike that he purchased that once belonged to Papa Weeley. In any case, I'm looking forward to trying it out on the moto-vacation we have planned for next week.

I know there are several that fit in the risers with the handlebar riding on top of them. Most of them I've seen are at a minimum an inch high.

Does anyone know of a shim kit that fits between top triple clamp and bottom of stock risers? Perhaps no more than 1/2" high? Of course it would require 1/2" longer bolts to hold the shims and risers to the triple clamp.

I think the extra height would let me rock the bars back slightly more without contacting the fuel tank.

Yesterday, while riding home from work I nearly soiled my boxers!!!
I really do not like ABS, I know it can save you from a fall in a wet slippery road and all that, but…
I was in a slope inclined piece of road approaching a blind cross road, I was in a VERRY slow speed, I spotted the car and apply the front brake… cuss me… the ABS prevented me from coming to a standstill. For those that don’t know how the ABS feels, the lever takes over and becomes impregnated with Parkinson’s!
What took me by surprise was the fact the bike kept on going, in what felt like, at the moment, as I left the bike in gear and was moving while idling.
