Am finally getting away for my annual 2-wheel tour. Last year was coast to coast. This year decided more of a north-south western states thing. A bit hot, but doable. Got new oem handle bar grips ... what a difference. Hope to use tapatalk to post some photos of interesting places .... are there any interesting places in west? Took the CB up to Newfoundland from MA. The ferry from Maine is not operating yet so I drove to North Sydney,Nova Scotia and took the ferry to Port -Aux- Basques on the west coast, a 6- 7 hour ferry ride. The West coast has a great national park Gros Morne which is very scenic and has a lot too do and see. There is little fishing villages to visit and a Viking site up North- West as well. Theres is oceans and mountains and history and very friendly people. Lodging is relatively inexpensive and if you plan ahead you can camp in Gros Morne and in certain sites they have tents to rent so you don't have to lug your camping gear around. You can also take a ferry to Labrador on the West coast if you want to. There is another ferry on the East coast
in Argentina near St.Johns, so you won't have to backtrack on RT 1 to get home, but this ferry is 16 hours to cross and it does not run every day. I would suggest to get a cabin to lay your head down if you could afford to. St. Johns is nice to visit, lots of pubs and restaurants and colorful houses and history, and as a base there are lots of places to visit and see around it. It can be very windy and buggy when your riding around Newfoundland, so i would suggest a windscreen and full face or at least a wrap around your face. Also, with the ferry and riding, plan more days to see Newfoundland, especially if you add a Cabot trail ride in Nova Scotia. In conclusion, in my opinion, its very well worth going to Newfoundland, great scenery, friendly people, a lot of history and sites to see.I I Would definitely go back

If I weren't at work fuming, I'd be sipping some brown party likker right now and ruminating over my current situation.

I'm doing a valve adjustment on my Bonneville, and after extracting my exhaust camshaft to pull the buckets and shims, I took my rag that was covering all of the holes in the head to spread out over the engine as a dust cover.

In the process, I didn't notice that one of the locating dowels for a cam cap had fallen into the towel (they're little buggers), and as I moved the towel, I watched in slow motion as the dowel fell down the breather pipe and into the block.

I've gone at it with a telescoping magnet stick, a flexible claw grabber, and last night made a flexible tool with a magnet stuck on the end of some 1/4" vinyl fuel hose.

I know it's just a matter of time. And alcohol. I've got time to kill, as I have shims and seals on order, and I plan to go at it daily as I have time, until I hear the magic click of metal attaching to magnet.

Any positive energy would be appreciated.

I'm curious about how other CB1100 owners ride their bikes when cruising down the highway, or freeway.

It's two-lane country roads here, even our "highway" and I just never get to the freeway. I don't experiment with hard acceleration too often, and tend to keep the bike in the lower rpm's no matter what gear I'm in. But if I'm cruising at the posted speed (50), the bike is running around 3200 - 3400 rpm.

Some of the highways here are 55 or even 60, rpm will go up a little to accommodate that, but it's still under 4k.

What about you?

I'm also curious what the bike is like at much higher rpms - I've just never done it.

I am finding quickly that the seat on my 2013 standard is not very comfortable to my 54 yr old bottom!

Is the DLX seat any more comfortable? I am not interested in form over function I tend toward a café style or at least retro, don't care for the look of the BIG cruiser looking seats.

So I went for one of those motorcycle detailing (where they wash your bike and try to sell you expensive soap) and I had my chain stripped off the oil and relubed. The guy mentioned that my chain is rusty (let me know if you want images of the chain and/or the wash) so I am in the market for a new chain.

Since I got this bike 2nd hand, I don't know if the previous owner took care of the bike as properly as I would. A friend of mine told me that it would be best to change sprockets + chain as to know the mileage between them.

Today I've assembled my bike after replacing valve clearance shims; and was pretty unhappy to hear distinct clicking in the head around 4th cylinder when I've started the engine (intake I guess, but I'm not pretty sure).

As you can see intake clearances of 4th cyl are on tight end. Might it be the reason of clicking? Do I disassemble it again and put thinner shims?
Is it possible I've done something wrong during assembly?

I've got a copy of service manual, I was doing everything just as written (except of I used just motor oil instead of molybdenum oil solution and molybdenum grease for camshafts and shim buckets respectively), but it is possible I could do some mistake...

Any ideas are welcome!
