Hi Everyone,[Image: 680cbe7fc4757e5b6131dde0b19ab84d.jpg]

I brought my Rs with a cut down rear fender and I am looking for other ideas to make the rear light a bit more visable/legal.
Also looking to fit a rear rack. I have found a ex rear chrome mudguard secondhand, anyone know if this will fit my Rs,then i can find a light unit
thanks for any suggestions

Chain and Sprockets - O My!
Posted by: Mandrau_imp - 09-06-2019, 12:12 AM - Forum: Mechanical & Technical - Replies (1)

Greetings to the forum.
The original chain on my 2016 CB1100 standard is almost stretched out after 50,000km. Thinking of replacing it with a DID ZVMX x-ring. Pitch 530/Links 110. Hope I got that right because it seems to come only with 120 links on various online websites. As for sprockets, my understanding is that the stock front is 18 and rear is 40 tooth whereas the stock rear sprocket on a 2013 CB1100 is 39 tooth. I would like to install a 39 tooth in the back and a 19 tooth on the front to tallen up the gears a bit. Anyone know if the 39 tooth stock rear sprocket on a 2013 would fit on a 2014+ standard CB1100? Also, where to get a 19 tooth front?
Am I on the right track before I start ordering stuff online?
Cheers...

Stripping black finish off of 2017 engine case and cylinders
Posted by: Greaseball_imp - 09-05-2019, 01:54 AM - Forum: Accessories/Modifications - Replies (9)

I'm thinking of launching into a retro project (using Whitehouse parts) on a 2017 CB1100ex model.

In order to get the retro look that I'm after, the engine cases and cylinders would need to be silver, or natural aluminum, in color. The 2017 ex model has black engine cases and cylinders.

Does anyone here have experience in stripping the black finish off of these engines? As a last resort, I could paint a silver finish over the black finish, but I'd probably be setting myself up for paint flaking issues as the bike ages.

Any help from the forum would be appreciated.

I've been in the motorcycle biz in every aspect for the last 42 years. Currently have 16 motorcycles. This one has been a favorite for its smoothness and retro looks. No fuss maintenance and always ready to shred.

  Mirror Options
Posted by: Cobalt23_imp - 09-03-2019, 08:18 AM - Forum: Accessories/Modifications - Replies (20)

I am looking for some ideas for some new mirrors. I want black and possibly a little lower profile.

A couple of questions that you guys with more experience may have.

1. Somewhat interested in bar end but not sure if that will work well (i.e. will they be functional) with standard height handlebars?

2. Round, rectangle? anyone have pics

3. I like a little more of a café look and would like to tone down all the chrome a little.

4. I have seen some pics from another member using these Partzilla 88220-MGZ-305 from a cb500?? I like them, might be a good option.

Any other ideas or options?

Thanks in advance for the feedback!
Thanks to HWdesign member for the picks of the CB500 mirrors!

When the mind wanders: twenty-seven to one!
Posted by: VLJ_imp - 09-03-2019, 01:10 AM - Forum: General Discussion - Replies (68)

As I was riding my '17 EX up to Monitor Pass and over to Lake Tahoe yesterday, my mind began to wander up on Hwy 88. To entertain myself, I started counting the various types of cars and motorcycles on the road. I often do this with cars when I'm up in the mountains, noting the disproportionate number of Subarus, which are nearly as ubiquitous as Toyotas in places like Truckee and Tahoe.

Anyway, when I switched over to counting motorcycles, which I rarely do, I began to understand why I rarely do it. My god, was it depressing. From the moment I began my count, near Pine Grove, to the time I concluded it, in Tahoe City, I'd given up and simply broken it down into three categories: Cruisers, BMWs, Others.

Cruisers: one hundred and sixty-two
BMWS: ninety-four
Others: six

The BMWs were nearly all some sort of GS model. There were a decent number of RT's, but the vast majority were GS's, many of which were serving as pack mules, heavily laden down with hard luggage and a multitude of strapped-on duffel bags. I saw no RRs, K bikes, Roadsters, or anything else.

The Others were two Goldwings, two KTM's, one old CBR600, and an SV650S.

The Cruisers were, of course, nearly all Harleys, most of which seemed to be touring Harleys. I didn't see a single Indian, which surprised me.

The further I rode from civilization, the greater were the percentage of BMWs. In town, it was mostly non-touring Harleys, plus those two sportbikes.

Not a single Standard of any make. Oh, wait, there was one Norton, parked by the side of the highway, just east of Pioneer. It looked shiny and new, and its rider was nowhere to be seen. He'd left his gloves and jacket by the rear wheel.

So, okay, seven Others. Still a depressing number.

On the plus side, all the Harleys gave me the little hand-gesture acknowledgment. There was a time when Harley riders often didn't do this, but I'm noticing that now they usually seem to do it, just like every other rider. Touring-bike riders, ADV riders, and sportbike riders do it every time, without fail. Oddly, or maybe not so oddly, the lone holdout group seems to be scooter riders, who probably just aren't up to speed on the whole hand-gesture thing.

Anyway, one hundred and sixty-two cruisers, vs six (seven, if we include a non-running Norton) non-cruisers/BMWs. I felt embarrassed for all mankind.

Oh, well. At least it was a perfect day up there...

I love that shot of the open road. All it needs is a coiled rattlesnake or an armadillo crossing the road in the foreground, and it would be the perfect classic rock album cover (The Eagles, The Allman Brothers Band, Skynyrd, Molly Hatchet, etc.), the American West's version of Abbey Road.

That last shot, 'Heaven shining its light upon her,' blew me away.

  Close Call OMW to work

This is a few months [url=https://youtu.be/_HOgTfB5KcE]old vid but it shows the importance of road strategy when riding a bit more spirited..

I've taken some principles with me when riding in the city. Just me 2 cents.

1.) When on a two way road - try your best to stay on the left of left most lane. It'll give you the most visibility to those crossing the intersection to make a left and will be blocking your. It'll also make you most visible to them.

2.) When on a one way road but it has 3 lanes... stay in the middle lane/2nd lane. Lots of cars parked on both sides and lots of cars stopping to turn both left and right. This is a double edged sword however because now you have to worry about being on the blind side of both vehicles on your left and on your right.

If it has two lanes... stay on the left most.. and try to take the left most position in that lane.. although watch out for parked cars Huh

3.) Don't cross an intersection at the same time while splitting lanes with a car. Might seem obvious but well...

Lots of caveats to these however. Riding slow-er is never a guarantee that you will be able to escape with your life. Sometimes speed and momentum can get you out of trouble just as much. Pick your poison.

Any who enjoy my near wipeout experience Thanks

  Long Live the King!
Posted by: Frulk_imp - 09-01-2019, 10:37 AM - Forum: Other Bikes - Replies (5)

Took the 2005 Road King (previously I stated it was a 2006) for about a 1.5 hour ride yesterday with 3 stops because I was running errands. The 1450cc motor is what I would call 'relaxed' in a bike this size with all 240 pounds of me on board as well. Not much to say about a cruiser that most of you guys/gals don't already know. Aftermarket pipes are louder than stock. Seat seems comfortable. Bars could come back about 2 inches to really satisfy the comfort margin. Everything works on the machine. Nothing out of sorts.

I came back to my friends house and told him it's a done deal and would need an hour or so (Saturday) to get the money out of the bank.

As mentioned earlier the bike was purchased for my son-in-law. As my buddy was unloading one of the boxes of take off parts he laid down this monstrosity of a seat.

After he left my wife came back out in the garage and looked at all the parts and THAT seat and asked "Is this a bike they can ride two-up on?" I said yes because there were two different seats and seat configurations and it had the flip up/down foot boards. Wife responds "I'm not good with you giving him this bike. I thought this would be like our youngest daughters and her boyfriends bikes (Sportsters set up with seats for solo riding". She then goes on to say "I'm not comfortable with my daughter on the back of the bike. He has no knowledge or experience and he's NOT learning with her on the back". ExcitedCelebrateThanks

Sooooooo: Looks like the King is here to stay for a while. At least until he attends a riding school and gets some two-up tutelage under his belt.

Bike needed a really good deep cleaning. Hadn't seen one in a while. Whitewalls were the toughest thing to get clean. Bags came off easy. I hand waxed everything but it still needs some work in spots with rubbing compound to get some imperfections out. I pumped the rear air shocks up to about 11psi for now.

Pre-deep clean:

I installed a RAM X Mount I had laying around:

Replaced the smoked lens turn signals with the OEM Orange ones. I like being visible:

I haven't swapped out the back ones. Got lazy once it got into the 90's today. Those are next though.

Guess the King will be hanging around for a while. Funny how things work out sometimes.

  Possible Frame Damage
Posted by: audiomanipulator_imp - 09-01-2019, 08:55 AM - Forum: General Discussion - Replies (26)

Hi Guys

Long time reader, first time poster. Learned lots of great things about the bike on this forum. Thanks for all the info!

I purchased a used 2014 deluxe last year late September, basically had it for about a year. Within these past 12 months, I've been rear ended 4 times. Every single time - I was stopped at a stop sign. Every. Single. Time.

This last time about 3 weeks ago, I got hit hard. Couldn't drive the vehicle back. First thing I noticed was the saddle being a bit loose. I took the bike to my local shop which will remain anonymous, and they said the frame wasn't bent. I'm not a mechanic, but it seems to me the saddle is attached directly to the frame. If the frame was bent, would that possible cause the saddle to loosen up? The mechanic pretty much accused me of trying to total the bike, all I care about is that arse is safe going down the highway.

So how loose is it? I have 2 seats, a corbin and the stock seat. Both would be rock solid when installed. Wouldn't budge. Now it has at least an inch play upward after being locked in place - could there be something else bent that would cause the seat to loosen up?

Do you guys think it's possible for the saddle to be loose without frame damage? Thanks in advance.
