My wife and I were driving today and of course saw a young girl that could barely drive due to fiddling with her cell phone, and we started talking about how since cell phones got so popular, you hardly ever see a woman putting on make up or plucking her eyebrows, painting her finger nails, or even yelling at the kids in the back seat while driving anymore, or men shaving, or someone reading a book or magazine, or someone eating. Now it seems to be cell phones, cigarettes and Starbucks coffee, usually all at the same time, that are the main distractions.

Not any better, just different.

The most recent Consumer Reports magazine contains a one page article that reports on data collected by State Farm Insurance. The data analyzed ran from July 2017 until June 2018. Our lovely West Virginia ranked as the highest risk state for accidents invoking deer. 1 in 47 people (in WV) filled a claim, during the covered period, that involved deer. Virginia was in the high risk category with 1 in 99 State Farm customers filling such claims. I’m posting this because of the upcoming rally.

Had to share this bike I saw today at Two Wheel Inn in Suches, GA today. His dad bought the bike new and ended up giving it to his son. Not bad for roughly a 40 year old bike! I had two back in the day and loved them both. Sadly I sold them...I've nearly talked myself into buying another, but the CB1100 is close enough to perfect to go back to that SUPER old school. Anyway, it was a good showing.

Does anybody know the stock spring rate for the rear shocks on a 2014 Deluxe? I would like to replace my stock shocks, and I would like to go up one step in spring rate, but I don't know what the standard spring rate is.

Greetings... Let me make my first post about increasing the size of the cockpit so I'm more comfortable riding. I have too much knee bend on my stock EX and found some relief from an Air Hawk(?) seat pad as a test of how high I'd like a permanent seat. I think I'd love to find another 1.5+ inches so I'm curious about what the set of choice is. I've added foam to dirt bike seats before for height and... works good/looks only fair. Don't think I want to permanently wreck the stock seat in case I sell. I suppose there's the possibility of building up foam on the stock seat and putting a new cover over that. Or adding an "elevating seat cover" if such things exist. I'll attack peg height by making a bracket to lower and move the peg position forward a bit, and make or buy risers and move-rear adapters for the bars.

But for the seat.. I can't be the first guy to need to think about this so let me ask... Did anyone ever assemble the alternatives and ponder which was best and storm forward? Thanks for any help on this you can provide. Ride safe.

Elephant Lake is a 550 kilometer (340 mile) ride. That is the farthest northwest I can ride and still be home for supper. Summer has already slipped away, so I had to be careful to select the right gear for the cool morning and warm afternoon. Decided to cut the price tag off the Sedici Distanza Saddlebags I bought 2 summers ago and mount them on the bike.

An hour and a half from home I stopped for a Bacon Egg McMuffin breakfast in Renfrew, my most northerly jumping-off terminal. Glad I wore my flannel lined jeans, and slipped a down-filled vest under my leather jacket.

After breakfast I headed northwest to Foymount, and then on towards Combermere. On the way I stopped at Gorman Lake and the hill on Letterkenny Road. I bet that is not a lot of fun on a snowy winter day.




It started to sprinkle. As there was no rain forecast I did not bother packing my rain suit, although there was a lot of empty room in the saddlebags. Approaching Combermere the rain stopped, but last tab on the fuel gauge started to flash. I know there is no gas available there, so I pulled out my handy cue card which told me I have 75 kilometers of gas left. That’s more than enough to take me to Maynooth, my planned gas stop and rest. So I stopped to climb the road to the lookout to view Kamaniskeg Lake.


Made it to Maynooth on time for my rest stop, and topped up for the loop around Elephant Lake.


Unfortunately I could not find a safe place on the road to stop for a photo of Lake Baptiste, nor does Google Maps have a street view. Off to Bancroft for my lunch break at Canada’s favourite coffee shop Tim Horton's.

The ride home was uneventful, although I did stop for a picture of Denbigh Lake.


No picture of Sharbot Lake when I stopped at the general store for a rest and gas. Just a quick scoot home through Perth, Franktown and Richmond. Arrived home in time to grill some pork chops for dinner.

It has been some time since I checked in and my respect of this forum moves me to provide an update.

The short of it is my 2016 CB1100 performed flawlessly with not a niggle of a problem. Fell in love all over again with this bike.

Three oil and filter changes later and a set of new rubber. Honda dealerships in Victoria, Saskatoon and New Brunswick all took me in without an appointment. Switched to high performance synthetic in Saskatoon and the bike seemed to like it so will stick to synthetic from now on.

The new rubber was a pleasant surprise as the tires were being replaced with a mis-matched set that were in stock. Front: Micheline Pilot Road 4 GT 120/70 ZR18 (felt more confident over all). Rear: Continental Trail Attack 2 140/80 - 18 (bias tube type) which has more meat on it than my last tire. I did not experience any issues with the mis-matched set.

Bike was outfitted with Dart Fly Screen (Marlin) for wind management. A 70L Seal Line water proof duffle strapped to Honda OEM rear rack plus Tourmaster basic saddle bags and a Nelson Rigg tank bag. ROK straps made life easier on the road.

I learned a heck of-a-lot about my bike and about myself...Cheers!

I know it's days after the event, but did anyone see the remarkable race at Silverstone. After Dovi was taken out and Rossi clearly didn't have the speed, one could be forgiven for thinking Marquez might be lapping people by the end. Alex Rins rode a fabulous race, sticking to Marquez like poo to a blanket. I was so far to the edge of my seat at the end of the final lap I was about to fall off. Who'd have thought Rins could pull off an amazing pass and an 0.013 second win? Amazing.

As the commentators love to say "The sport was the winner today". It's stupid because Alex Rins was the winner. What is good is knowing that Marquez cannot guarantee to have it all his own way.
