Hello. I have read the posts on fuel tank removal and still have a question please. My bike is a 2017 CB1100RS. When I dis-connect the fuel line will it seal itself or do I have to drain the Tank first. Any help much appreciated.

On the right side of the crankcase the front most polished aluminum plate (pulser cover?) has a slow oil leak. I pulled it off and found no gasket underneath so I put some permatex gasket maker on and sealed it back up to no avail. I know the previous owner dropped the bike and replaced this part. Is it normal to have no gasket? Is there something else I should investigate?

Finding myself with more spare time than usual due to a recent achilles tendon surgery. When I can't ride the bikes, I tend to think about the bikes even more, which led me to create this pictorial timeline of all the bikes I've had over the past 46 years. During the process, I realized that I think about historical time periods less in terms of years and more in terms of "that was when I had the [fill in the bike].

I'm not saying I need anyone else to validate this way of thinking...but...you know...if the spirit moves you. Might just be another symptom of an overdeveloped attachment to motorcycles.

I replaced the way-too-short sidestand on my '14 STD with the part from the '17 model. The lean angle is much improved.

I noticed while doing the replacement that the gap at the top of both side stands was noticeably wider than it needs to be to fit over the frame mounting plate. There is almost 1mm of play there. I checked few other Honda models and found the same thing. My old 2005 VFR800 is the same way.

Does anyone know the reason for the built-in slop in that hinge? I'm tempted to put a washer in the gap.

Got these on ebay for $76. They come from China and only took 5 days to arrive here in Sacramento. They were an easy install except the left one hits the kickstand at full extension but you can rotate it up and out if the way and it is still lower than b4. I have some problems with my right leg so thats where I really need the full drop in peg height, which I got. Gotta say after 300 miles this was a good purchase. Much easier on the legs and also the feet. The only drawbacks are its even harder to find the kickstand than b4 and also these things really grip my shoes almost too much...but I think they will wear down some in time. The brake pedal is almost even with the right peg now and I have ordered a red aluminum pedal of similar design that should raise it some so I'm not on the brake while riding.

First time poster. I'm in the market for a new bike (last bike was a 919) and I was unaware that the CB1100 existed until a week ago. I am a huge fan of the CB750 styling from the 1970s so this 1100 really rings a lot of bells for me. I had no issues with the 919 other than the exhaust location made even a short ride a smelly ride (clothes were doused with exhaust). I test drove a 2013 CB1100 yesterday and it was the smoothest bike I've ever ridden...by far. HOWEVER, as some have reported, when I got it up to 65 MPH+ (4k RPM+) it was not as smooth. In fact, I felt like between the noise and vibration that it could make highway trips laborious. I see the 2014 likely corrected the issue with additional gear but the cost of the 2014's is substantially higher.

Two main questions:
1) Is there a easy/somewhat cost effective way to correct the issue I am describing or would it just be better to look for a 2014? I would like to be able to do interstate driving/road trips if needed so those higher speeds/rpms are concerning.

2) Alternatively, does anyone have any recommendations for bikes that have similar looks without the issues above (I prefer Japanese/UJM/upright with 1970's styling) in the $4500-$6000 range?

Seems like what I'm after is difficult to find as there isn't a lot of bikes that combine the UJM retro style with ability to use both city and highway use.

I sometimes take my hands off the handlebars comming down a hill slowing down, and with my other bike never had any problems. Today I did it with the Honda for the first time and the handlebars started to wobble side to side after a few seconds, so I quickly grabed the bars again...This doesnt seem normal, any ideas...the tyres are pretty new, no uneven wear..maybe headstem bearings? Strange as the bikes only done about 20,000km...

Putting my bike back together. Haven't plugged in the charger to see what happens with the battery..but for fun I will. I have a great charger, and a great tester afterward to see what the health is.

I'm still going to assume it is dead- so for now, I am looking at these 3 batteries, and stock of course-

To you who moderate and/or manage, thank you for your time and investment! I absolutely love the info you offer through these dedicated CB1100 fans. To you members, thank you as well for such good tips, advice, pics and the occasional sarcasm.

I don't do social media or rarely even something as generic as this site, but nevertheless use the info in this forum as the 'go to' place. After reading everything available I decided on a 2013 CB1100, and absolutely love it. For those of you looking at one, pretty much everything pro & con is covered in all the posts; riding position, durability, comfort, accessories, upgrades, etc.

For me, I'd have to say I'm super impressed with the engineering and design but as with many others, going to get a softer seat soon (85% decided on the Daytona Cozy.)

One other note; I actually would like the sixth gear, but couldn't pass up the 'Red One' with low miles & a great price.
