| Honda CB1100 Rough Idle Solution |

I have read online that several Honda CB1100 owners have experienced this problem.
For several years, my 2013 Honda CB110 motorcycle would intermittently experience a rough idle. Specifically the idle would fluctuate between 1100 RPMs and 800 RPMs at about a 2 second interval.
This occurred regardless of outside air temperature, changing fuel brands, and going from 91 to 87 octane gasoline.
The solution was to remove all contents from the small compartment under the seat that covers the battery. And to use the original seat that came with my bike.
This solution is based on regulating the temperature under the seat so that the Intake Air Temperature (IAT) sensor is not overheated. The IAT is located in front of the battery and protrudes into the Rear Air Cleaner housing.
I suspect that the dense contents in the under-seat compartment was preventing the IAT from sensing the actual air temperature. And the custom seat was not allowing enough air to circulate under the seat, again allowing heat to build-up and causing false IAT readings.
After making these two changes, I have not seen the rough idle in the last several weeks.
I hope my solution will help other Honda CB1100 owners fix this frustrating and elusive problem.

I could use a bit of help.
I had my ECU re-mapped by Guhl.
Great result, what I was looking for.
One problem though, the engine light is on. I need to reset the fault.
I went on line and reviewed a you tube video, however the bike was not the 2017 model that I have.
There was enough of a difference in the plugs that I didn't want to fool with it and make a bigger problem.
I have the 2017 Honda CB 1100 EX model.

Just about to buy a 2019 CB1100 EX in the red and trade my 2016 T100 fully farkled Bonneville in for it
couple of questions please guys
does anyone know who makes a 4 into 1 Exhaust for this model that not a fortune or can I fit the 4 into 1 manifold /headers from the earlier model and fit a decent end can ??
Whats the re sale like on these ? the bike im looking at has been for sale for a couple of months despite only having some 800 miles on it, ive noticed a lot are still on ebay that have been there for some time the Bonneville ive had 5 or 6 offers from dealers all around the same price and almost the same as what i paid for it so not lost a load of money on that bike which makes a pleasent change
Cheers Guys

Hello all. I bought a new '17 CB1100EX a couple months ago and have some questions. I've put 600 miles one it. Before this bike, I had a '74 350F for 5 years. Other than a Bonneville for about a month between the two, that's the extent of my limited experience, so some of these questions will be more on the beginner side, if you don't mind bearing with me. Many thanks for chiming in on any/all of them that you might have input on.
1) When pushing the bike around, off and in neutral, I hear a slight 'shhhhh' coming from the front wheel. Does this objectively mean the brakes are too close, or can this be normal? My other bikes were silent in this regard.
2) Around 50mph, I hear a relatively quiet (but loud enough to be heard at speed obviously) very high-pitched intermittent mousey squeak. It sounds like it's coming from in front of me but hard to say. Any ideas?
3) What are the practical implications/benefits of having a sixth gear? This is my first bike with it.
4) Related to #3, any rules of thumb about gearing and when to shift on an engine of this size? I'm just following my intuition. Is there a good 'cruising' RPM that's good on the engine?
5) This one will be hard to explain, but if i'm cruising along at a steady speed & rpm, no acceleration, sometimes I feel an intermittent 'falter'. Like it loses power for a 'blip'. Doesn't happen during acceleration. Might also happen during deceleration without braking. Any ideas what might cause this?
6) I find myself stalling when taking off from a stop, in first gear, occasionally. I'd assume it's user error and not mention it, and it doesn't happen that often, but it'd never happened to me before on the other bikes I've ridden. It feels kind of random so I can't tie it to any technique other than noticing: if it's gonna happen, it'll probably be when I'm on an incline and dirt/gravel terrain. Is it just that I'm not used to the weight or might it reflect an adjustment that needs to be made?
Other than these lingering questions, it's been really nice. I'm still getting a feel for it obviously but it seems comfortable, stable, and good handling for what I'm doing with it. Mainly back roads, county roads, and state highways in a rural area.
