  Battery charger brand & size
Posted by: Brady Bourgeois_imp - 07-08-2020, 05:54 PM - Forum: General Discussion - Replies (15)

Hello
I just purchased a 2013 Honda CB1100 with 4500 miles and was wondering what battery charger most people here are using to keep their batteries in top condition.
What name brand and amp size should I be looking for.
Thanks, Brady

Warm ‘Crack Filler’ a Hazard Riding?
Posted by: widude - 07-08-2020, 09:48 AM - Forum: General Discussion - Replies (17)

Just wanted to see if anyone else has an opinion. I was out riding the other day, temps in the mid 90’s, very warm pavement. I was doing a gentle turn, one road to the next at an intersection.

I felt the front tire slip a little, well short of anything close to losing it. I noticed I had turned on about a 3” vein of the rubberized type/ asphalt ‘crack filler’. I had taken this warm crack filler more parallel, as opposed to crossing at a right angle.

At the time I felt if I had more turn, speed, or ‘cornering’ It could very well be an issue. This crack filler seemed to be at least a year or two on the road, not this year anyway. Of course it was warmed up with 95 degrees and full sun.

I’m up on loose sand, gravel, even grass on the road, has warm crack filler been a hazard too, or is it just in my mind? Maybe it’s just me?

  Valve Clearances tightening
Posted by: bflint - 07-08-2020, 02:35 AM - Forum: Mechanical & Technical - Replies (45)

My exhaust valve clearances have tightened over time to the point they are at the minimum recommended clearance of .010. I thought they should loosen instead of tighten. Does anybody have any thoughts on this? Also, am I over expectant to think that the dealer/mech should have adjusted the Exhaust valves to their mid value of .011?

  Oil Comparison ?
Posted by: bflint - 07-08-2020, 02:16 AM - Forum: Mechanical & Technical - Replies (27)

Has anyone on this forum done an oil comparisons like the Goldwing guy below did in 2014?

CONTENT:
Just for the heck of it I have run the following tests of motorcycle oils over a 4000 mile range on my 2012 Honda Goldwing.
1. Honda GN4- pretty good basic oil, notchy shifting from the start. The infamous missing from first to second gear was also pretty bad.
2. Motul 5100 JASO-MA- very good oil. Very smooth shifting and very good pull on acceleration. Would be my second choice for running with this bike.
3. Motul 5100 JASO-MA2- Did not like the new formula. Pull was not as good in high revs. Still had the smooth shifting but the bike preferred the older formula.
4. Honda HP4S- Actually pretty good. Strong acceleration but notchy shifting. Did not run it as long as the others but I think for the Goldwing a good choice.
5. Castrol Power 1 RS- Never used a oil that made the bike feel like the clutch was slipping but this oil did. A very smooth oil when running in low RPMs but whack the throttle and RPMs reved up with little pull. Do not like it.
6. Valvoline 4 stroke dino- Utterly shocked how the bike ran on this oil. Very smooth shifting, excellent pull and acceleration at high RPMs. No vibration.
This was the best yet.
7. Rotella T6- Good oil but felt alot of vibration back through the bike when riding for long periods of time.

Spotted in Park Ridge, IL 7.5.2020
Posted by: emptysea - 07-08-2020, 12:59 AM - Forum: General Discussion - Replies (1)

Returning from a long riding weekend in Wisconsin and making my third-to-last turn before home, I spotted a 2013 CB1100 heading in the opposite direction on Busse Highway. First time I recall seeing within my town's borders. It was 95f out and we'd been riding for 5+ hours so I didn't not pull a U-turn and chase him down. LOL

  Sturgis Cancelled (for me)
Posted by: KiowaEagle_imp - 07-07-2020, 05:52 AM - Forum: General Discussion - Replies (25)

So I was going to go to Sturgis the first week of August (yes I know it's the week before) but we decided to cancel that trip. So a friend and I are planning to go to Athens, OH to do the Windy 9's on the 2nd and 3rd and then head south to spend the 6th & 7th in the Deals Gap area.

So two questions. Which of the Windy 9's should we concentrate on. I understand they're generally half day 100 mile or so rides so I'm hoping we can get 4 in. Which are the best?

And then Deals Gap. Of course we'll hit up the Dragon, what else should we look for?

Thanks in advance guys! Biker

  Price Guidance

Hey Guys- thinking about selling by 2013 CB1100. Have no idea what the market is for these bikes now. Looking for a suggested pricing point. Bike has under 5K miles, is in great shape (A-/B++). Samuririder fairing and a few other minor mods. I will definitely post for sale here with a much more detailed description. Just trying to get a starting point. Thanks

More handlebar talk - Samurider Type 2 replacements
Posted by: GrabOn_imp - 07-05-2020, 10:44 AM - Forum: Accessories/Modifications - Replies (10)

I should first start this question with why. I was on the CA-2 yesterday about 10 miles west of Wrightwood enjoying my 5K rpm bliss when I crested a hill and in the middle of the road was a boulder about the size of a small bowling ball. Bucked me right off and I slid and slid and then tumbled and slid. Thank goodness for armor and gear cause I'm fine and miraculously the CB sustained minor damage (wife- major damage but that's another thread...) however,my Samurider Type 2 bars are all bent up and Sumurider is out of stock of these.

I recall a few of you have had success with other Honda bars etc. My criteria is I want the lower height of the Type 2 bars and that I can install the factory weights.

Any suggestions on other bars that I can substitute? Undecided
