Race Tech Gold Valves in stock suspension - ozigoo - 06-18-2020
I have no real quarms about the suspension ,but have the front forks in pieces at the moment to change the seals and oil and give them a really thorough clean.
My mate sugested I put he Race Tech Gold valves in as a tweak to the front stock suspension.
I am wondering if anyone has done this ? and whether it is worth the AU$250 outlay...?

hmmm... Does it means that the tuning itself involve multiple dismantling and reassemble of the fork?

I dont think so, I think they can be set up with a resonable guess knowing a few variables like static weight sag, rider weight sag etc..worst case might involve removal of the top cap, spring and valve for a readjustment..

Hey Ozigoo that will be a fabulous project if you go ahead with it ... and given you're changing fork seals you are half way there. There have been one or two others on the forum who have had a crack at it, they reported good results. You probably know the drill:
- only permanent modification is to drill out the damping rods for greater oil flow.
- rebound damping adjusted by changing the fluid to a more suitable viscosity.
- compression damping adjusted by opening top cap removing spring and racetech valve and tweaking the valve spring tension.
A common improvement for street use is to drill extra oil passages in the racetech valve allowing faster oil flow which reduces the compression dampening.
Another option to consider is fitting cartridge inserts. It's a bit more complicated and more expensive but you'll get the correct spring rate to suit your weight and externally adjustable damping. Search up Andreanni for the least expensive option. I went this way on my CB and can vouch for the improvement.

Cheers Aussie, I see Suspensions R Us in Victoria have a YSS valve for only AU$150 which Im guessing is the same as the Race Tech ones?
Been looking at a heap of Dave Moss videos on suspension and trying to get my head around it all.
Its quite an exact science, and pretty important to get right...
Not sure Im up to it just yet, so I might just put it all back this time round and do some experimenting.
I feel more confident pulling the forks out and apart now so the second time round should be a breeze.
Any links to the other people you mentioned who have done the mods?
Saw the Andreanni thread awhile back but cant justify the expence just yet...

Only just, I have to wait until I can reassemble 1 fork leg before I have room to do the other one...lol
Luckily found this video of an Aussie doing the YSS PD valve instal yesterday on a Honda NC750X ..the fork leg looks identical to the CB's, well internally, the top nut looks different...Eagerly awaiting his assesment of the upgrade..

Well still waiting on the seals so I found out YSS Suspension are only half an hour away from me so I bit the bullet and went down there and bought their 33mm Promax PD valves which look identical to the Racetech ones at only half the price (AU$149). They look very well made.
I took my dampner rods for him to measure and have a look at and he said since they already have 4 x 6mm holes in them as standard, he didnt think it neccessary to drill them out any more.
So the mod is basically cutting 20mm off the spacer and putting it back together, the valves are preset and he didnt think I would need to adjust them.

Side question since you took these apart real good- Are those reflectors on the forks removable at all?

The reflectors are just stickers- they peel right off.
