  Max BMW

This will sound trivial, but I’m impressed.

Rather than drive 25 miles to my local dealer to pick up a few quarts of oil, crush washer, and an oil filter for my RT, I ordered the items online from Max BMW in CT, free shipping, just for convenience. The items arrived in a few days. I was very impressed when I opened the box — along with the items I ordered, they threw in a very nice funnel, a pair of nitrile gloves, and a bag of M&M’s. Stuff that cost them virtually nothing but transformed a routine order into a very nice and unexpected experience. Kudos to Max BMW!

well guys, this is a photo.. and it might be very interesting to some California riders.. my birthday is a month away and I need to renew my drivers license.. I dreaded going to DMV, but I bit the bullet today.. what good news !! .. because of the covid19, the state has given an automatic one year extension on drivers license renewals to anyone over the age of 70 ..   Light pod in windshield?
Posted by: bflint - 07-15-2020, 04:43 AM - Forum: Accessories/Modifications - Replies (6)

I just bought a Black Oak LED 40w CREE XM-L2 pod light (about 3 1/2" square) and was thinking about mounting it low on my National Plexistar windshield just above the headlight. Anybody try this before or have thoughts about this.
*
I want to use it as a spot for night illumination of critters/things way down the dark roadways. This spot is rated to 780 Meters and draws 2.8 amps.
*
I previously had the Twisted Throttle Denali D2 2.0 lights installed on my front fender mounts (one on each side), but they did not illuminate any better than my PIAA halogen head light bulb.

Attached picture includes a yellow circle where I was thinking about mounting the light,

  Brake pad life
Posted by: LakeWylieJoe_imp - 07-15-2020, 12:54 AM - Forum: Mechanical & Technical - Replies (34)

With the recent talk of brake pads (thanks Bob), I figured I'd give mine a close look while I had my wheels off for a tire change. I have ~28,600 miles on the original pads and all were pretty thin so I ordered new sets plus caliper bolts for front and rear.

I highly recommend doing the pad swap with the wheels off. It was very easy that way. I hung the front calipers from the fork legs temporarily with the old mounting bolts while working on the pads. The fork was resting on a sturdy wood stand built for that purpose so I didn't have to balance the bike on a jack.

I also slipped the rear axle through the swingarm to help hold the rear assembly in place while the wheel was off.

Anyway, back to the point of the story. :-) When I opened the packaging for the new pads, they were almost as thin as the old ones. I could have easily gotten 60,000 more miles out of the original pads. I went ahead and installed the new ones anyway.

I'd gotten so used to seeing very thick automotive pads that I was sure mine were 90% worn; they were less than 25% worn. Lesson learned. The new pads are very thin compared to automotive parts.
