Interesting find about the origin of our CB1100 chromed horns.

During a visit at a friend's motorcycle workshop, I noticed that our 2017 CB1100 was using the same chromed horns as the 750 Shadow.

great nephew Kyle who now lives in North Carolina has bought his fathers KTM 690 Duke and becomes another family member who street rides.

When visiting our friend's house, I found this beauty in here garage (belongs to her neighbour/lady ridden).

How good?

I know I've said it before, but this Honda CB 1100 is just a pleasure to ride. Thought it on last night's ride, thought it again on tonight's ride. Matter of fact it pops up in my mind on just about every ride. Smooth, comfortable, handles well, brakes well, plus it has stunning looks. I am so glad Honda brought it over and I was able to get my '13 and then my '14 deluxe. Kinda wish now I had kept the 13, and added a '17 to the garage too now.

7 years, nearly 60,000 miles on 2 CB's, and it' still one of the, if not THE finest motorcycle I have ever owned. In a way, at this point in my life, it is all the motorcycle, and the only motorcycle that I really need.

Now, that doesnt mean I'm going to run out and sell the FJR. It's a great motorcycle as well, and one that I enjoy riding a whole lot. It's tall, and top heavy, but good night what a motor, plus it handles well, and brakes well too. I feel fortunate to be able to have each of them in the garage. Due to it's larger size, bigger motor, shaft drive, cruise control, electronic windshield, fairing, liquid cooling, built in hardbags etc it makes a dandy cross country machine, and if I were to head out to say the bad lands of South Dakota tomorrow, it's the bike that I would call on. Not that the CB couldn't do it, but the FJR would be the better tool for that job.

However, if for some reason I could have only one motorcycle in the garage, I do believe the CB would be staying where it is.

It's that good.

I've been a fan of Clearwater lights since I put my first set of Darla's on my 2014 BMW K1600GTL. Put my 2nd set on the KTM 1190 Adventure and now, the 3rd set is fully installed on the '17 EX. Posting some pics of the process in case anyone else is thinking about adding these in the future.

I chose the universal fender mount/location in part because I like having the ability to direct the beams by turning the handlebars. The can also be mounted easily on engine guards--particularly the SW Motech bars as they have a nice crossbar almost custom-made for lights.



The wiring runs nicely up along the brake lines. This is the R side light.



Wiring continues into the opening along the side of the frame under the fuel tank on both sides. (I removed the tank to make the wiring install easier)



This little pocket area worked out perfectly as a spot to collect the wires from the lights, controller knob and power relay. It would have been a much cleaner install if I'd have cut all the wires to just the length needed for this bike. But, at $550 a set--I want to retain the ability to take these off this bike if/when I sell it to use on the next bike. So, I accepted a little "rat's nest" look as a result. I hope I don't lose too much credibility here for that.



Apparently, I've reached the limit of photos for a single post so I'll stop this one here and start a new one to finish up. Coming up...leads to the battery control knob and inside the headlight shell.

It appears that the high-beam + lead for the 2017 LED headlight module has power whether or not the high beam switch is activated. It has been suggested to me that Honda may be using a ground wire to switch the power to the high beam. Apparently this is common on the FJR's with LED headlights.

Thanks to Paris and his 2018 post about installing a headlight modulator, I have the wiring diagram for the 2017 LED headlight and it shows a green wire as the ground (-) for the high beam.

Has anyone had the need to figure out if the 2017 EX model does in fact use the ground switching method and if so, is that #1 green ground wire the right one to use?

For context, I'm wiring up my Clearwater Darla lights and the manual controller knob is set up to connect to the high beam power lead so the lights to to full brightness whenever you switch on the high beams. When I wire the lights per their instructions, the knob doesn't work at all because of the power flowing to the high beam lead full-time.
