  Another chain and sprocket question
Posted by: bflint - 10-11-2020, 02:43 AM - Forum: Mechanical & Technical - Replies (20)

Need to make a choice between Honda OEM sprockets/chain an other 3rd party vendor options. Honda OEM chain is almost twice the cost of 3rd party stuff and I tend to think you get what you pay for. I was intrigued by DID 530 ZVMX X-Ring Chain but saw some forum comments about oem steel lasting longer than plated products. Waiting for your thoughts & experiences ... less the BBQ side trips Smile
BACKGROUND:
In a previous post I noted a clanking/clicking noise coming from drive chain area. From the feedback it seems I am due for a new chain and maybe sprockets at 50K miles. I just put 6K+ miles on my xcountry trip so am going to take bike to dealer for oil, checkup, etc. I anticipate that dealer may verify clanking/clicking noise is drive train related so I want to pre-select the replacement part myself (don't trust most of the dealers/mechs in San Diego).

a trailer - behind the Honda
Posted by: j3gq_imp - 10-11-2020, 12:06 AM - Forum: Accessories/Modifications - Replies (15)

I really don't like saddle bags, not small, not large, and certainly not those big aluminum boxes you find mounted on X-Sahara Enduros.

But I'd like to carry my tent and a few other things every once in a while. Has anybody (in particular in the US or Canada) seen or used a one-axel, one-wheel trailer for the CB1100 ? Please ignore legal and safety issues for a moment. I am thinking of a strong little thing, with one wheel, mounted on the rear or on the carrier rack, which leans into every curve with the bike, good for up to 60 miles/h and carrying a small aluminum box say 30" by 15" by 15", the center bar no longer than 50".

Has a similar trailer been seen ? Any descriptions, snapshots, any good advice ? If not, any related ideas which might complement my (to be detailed) design before it goes to the shop ? In particular what pre-fab parts (wheel, hook) could be used in order to reduce production cost ?

Always safe rides to all !!

  DLX vs. EX comparison
Posted by: Bighonda14_imp - 10-10-2020, 12:55 PM - Forum: General Discussion - Replies (15)

I owned 2014 DLX for a few years and I am considering purchasing a 2017 EX in the year or two ahead.

Can anyone who has owned both share how noticeable the updates are in the EX?

Do you notice a smoother ride with the updated suspension?

Do the LEDs make a difference?

Anything else a meaningful difference between the 2?

Thanks!

Scouted new roads in Southeast Ohio
Posted by: rickcb - 10-10-2020, 07:18 AM - Forum: Seat Time - Replies (1)

Jennifer and I rode 272 miles today, scouting some new roads (SR 676 and SR 339) near Marietta and Caldwell, Ohio for the 2021 Ohio Rally. We talked to the managers at our top two hotels in Caldwell and were delighted to hear that our top choice might only be $65 (vs. advertised rate of $109) a night. They wouldn't quote a price to Jennifer over the phone last week, wanting us to wait until January. But I used my in-person charm and got a quote. I'm waiting to see it in writing sometime next week before doing the final celebratory happy dance.

  brakes simulating T.Rex
Posted by: j3gq_imp - 10-10-2020, 06:39 AM - Forum: Mechanical & Technical - Replies (8)

Help please !
Brakes works perfectly fine all the way between 210km/h and 10 miles per hour. But when I slow down in front of a traffic light, just before coming to a stop, my front wheel brake sounds like T.Rex on a hunt. Grannies jump of the curb, dogs howl, and my Honda shop says, "this it hard to come by, ... may be a little Aluminum grease ever couple of days, and right after every rain shower."
Excuse me ? How many Honda/s have been cruising our streets and making this awful noise ? None ! I haven't seen any in the past 30 years while admiring these beauties on wheels.

Any technical hint, answer, suggestion more then welcome. What am I gonna tell this Honda shop when they suggest again to carry a grease can to feed this dinosaur ?
Thanks you!

I know this is a video game, but this how I picture myself when riding. LOL

I don't know which part I like the best.

The sliding, the stoppie or the wheelie while changing turns (it's been said the electronics would make this impossible but I'm dreaming here)

  help needed: fenders / mudguards
Posted by: franov_imp - 10-09-2020, 04:03 AM - Forum: Accessories/Modifications - Replies (8)

Hello everyone, does anyone happen to have the OEM part numbers (and maybe an approximate price) for both the front and rear fenders/mudguards for the 2017-2018 CB1100EX? I'm talking about the chromed ones, as I happen to have the same-as-tank-color-painted ones (2019 model year) and I'd really love to put on the chrome ones: I'm asking to you as the nearest Honda dealer is 35km from my home Big Grin

  Engine Paint
Posted by: shahyaan_imp - 10-09-2020, 01:22 AM - Forum: Mechanical & Technical - Replies (21)

Heya

I just bought the CB1100RS used and noticed a few chips on the engine fins. I want to fill them in before corrosion lifts of the paint around it.

The engine is a dark grey colour. Any ideas as to the closest paint match to fill these in?

  tanks & saddles
Posted by: j3gq_imp - 10-08-2020, 07:18 AM - Forum: General Discussion - Replies (2)

Looking at the CB1100/s on wikipedia, it seems that the earli(er) models had significantly different tanks (and saddles). Has anybody experienced both configurations (may be changed his bike) ? I'd like to know whether there is more to it than just looks ?
Another question, if anybody has changed to the newer configuration, and the old tank and saddle is still sitting in his garage ... I might be interested in buying them.
Always safe rides !
