Clumsy me drop the tank while cleaning the bottom of it. I rest my tank on an old tire and its only about 15cm drop and my tank seams (2013 model) are now dented/bend. No leak and paints are not cracked. But the sight just irritate me. Had been hesitating, should I bend back the dent and risk puncturing the tank or crack and chips the paint?? Or just leave it as one of the battle scars....

A few weeks ago, Portland, OR was overtaken by forest fire smoke. Evac line got within about 6-7 miles of where I live, but today I wanted to see just how close the fire did get.

Estacada, about 3,000 population, is about 15 miles away and a friend said they stopped the fire just southeast of town along hiway 224. Red areas on map indicates burned area right along the side of the road:











Sad to see. Gree areas right next to burnt forest, then patches of green, swaths of burned out areas. Still smelled like smoke. Hiway 224 was closed about 6-7 miles southeast of Estacada. Lots of burned trees fell onto the hiway.

So i got mine and it had 9,900km on it, dealer did "10k service" on it and it was engineoil and filter change and checked every bolts and nuts. Is it correct?
Runs very good, not any wierd sounds, vibrations or anything, did 550km testdrive from dealer to home.
It was importers old showbike for two years and they did that 1000km at least. stood this summer at this dealer i bought it from.
What should i check next? Don't have owners manual or serviceprogram yet, but i'm on 'em. Putting it on winterstand at next week so got plenty of time. We should get snow in two weeks if it goes like two previous winters..

Does anyone know if the side covers from a 2013 will fit on a 2014? I have a 2014 and was thinking that the Silver ones from a 2013 might look good. It would put a little color into the middle of an all black bike.

Long story short. Bought a used 2013 CB1100(from a forum member). On the pics it had engine guards on. Thought I was getting the guards but between the time of posting and sale, the seller sold the guards to someone on this forum. Which is fine. The bike is is amazing condition despite having a garage tip over. When I got the bike It had a few Super slow leaks that needed to be addressed (crankcase covers) and top gasket. I only noticed cause I’m OCD. Honestly a lot of it was so minor and the owner only put 8000 miles on it in the entire time he owned it. I don’t think it’s something he would’ve really noticed.

Upon delivery of the bike And giving it a thorough inspection (Took my time) test drove, etc. Bought it. A few hundred miles later and having to replace the cover seals I noticed some paint off the frame as well as this dimple. I’m assuming that’s where the U joint from the crashguards hooked up and eventually “bit” into the paint etc.

Just to be clear. I don’t know if the owner knew/thought it was a big deal or if I hit something on the road in my few hundred miles of ownership. Don’t think I did. The bike performs as it should and tracks straight, no weirdness at high speed 85mph and up...

So need some opinions:

Is the frame compromised in any way? Am I being too dumb and ocd about this?

I was going to put engine guards on, but after seeing how they mount with that U joint will that hold up? Suggested brand?
Or call my insurance and make a claim?

So guys I have a question, do you know if Japanese riders have to hide their power commanders? My seat came with a weird cut in the rear, approximately the size of a power commander, and a whole in the seat base, arguably enough for a cable to go through.

Obviously I have sent it to be reupholstered and me being on the tall side requested an inch raise in the rider seat. I will post that job, I asked for a design similar to Daytona seat, we will see what it will come out like.

The other night I was riding home and heard some metal tapping going on. It wasn’t a long ride and as soon as I got off I found it immediately, my PLOT chrome chain guard had broken just above the rear screw. I remember thinking when I installed it that the metal seemed thin and that part of it seemed a little flimsy but I figured plenty of people had them and I never heard of anything breaking so it must be alright.

I don’t have anyone riding with me on the CB and I don’t recall anything hitting it so I can only surmise it’s a stress fracture, maybe the metal was bad there. In looking at the break the metal seems brittle to my untrained eye.

So anyway I contacted Takashi and no, there is no warranty on an almost two year old chain guard. I didn’t expect it but it doesn’t hurt to ask. So now I’m thinking about trying to repair it. Mainly because I’m not about to spend that kind of money on another new one. Especially if the lifetime is only two years. But I’m unsure what the best way to repair it would be. So I’m asking you metallurgists out there....what are your thoughts?
