I never had one of these, or even knew anyone who had one, but my buddy did and he said it was his favorite toy of all time!

Simple question: Would adding a taller seat promote smoother cornering?

raising my center of gravity makes it so i can make my curves with less lean angle, but lowering it makes it so that i can turn in faster...which way to go?

After more than a week of suffering through air-quality levels so poor that at times they simply couldn't be measured by the equipment available, I was growing pretty tired of the situation (more than just a little fed-up). What's worse is that both my wife and my son have Asthma. This had been yet another tough week in a long string of tough weeks. Fortunately things finally started to clear up by the time the weekend arrived.

My wife and I had been planning on taking a trip to the coast in the S2000 today with hopes of enjoying a fresh seafood lunch. However, that didn't work out, so I found myself contemplating the thought of flying solo today. While that's normally my style, to day I decided to try and come up with a plan B that would accommodate both a late start and a riding buddy. A quick call to forum member cooldrum resulted in the spontaneous response that I was hoping for. Almost befire I knew it, I had riding buddy and lunchtime companion both (thanks again for the lunch today Russ!!).

After meeting up @cooldrum's place we headed out on a loop that took us south of Portland and deposited us in Oregon City for lunch and provided us a chance to catch up.


Guth's CB and cooldrum's CB, each sporting aftermarket slip-on exhausts. They sounded really nice going down the road together today — not too loud, but each with a tone that offered just the right amount of attitude.

After heading back into town, cooldrum headed for home and I decided to head to North Portland (Portland's St Johns neighborhood to be specific). I specifically wanted to check out the newest See See Motor Coffee Company location as it had just recently opened for business.


Their new location is easily identified by the smiling See See's logo hanging outside.


As if you couldn't tell, See See's owner Thor Drake, digs two-strokes.

Later after my stop at See See's, I spotted a classic old Triumph. As a fan of motorcycles and sports cars alike, I definitely felt the need to stop for a photo-op.


A couple of classics — a vintage Triumph TR4 and of course Honda's own modern classic that we all know and love.

Finally a visit to Portland's Cathedral Park — named after the design of the iconic St Johns Bridge as seen in the background.

2014 standard. I know nothing about suspension adjustment. Hoping y'all could suggest where I should be and how to get there. I presume it's set wherever stock is set considering I bought new. 5'11in 230lbs. Where should itbbe and how do I adjust? What I do know is a spanner wrench is needed for rear. Size?

Most of y’all know that I’ve been decorating my side covers with stickers from (mostly) roads on which I’ve ridden my CB1100. See photos....





... as you can see I’m running out of space and I have about 10 more stickers to add to get up to date, including some of the great roads I logged at the PA Rally. So, where do I go from here? I was thinking the black covers under the tank, but I’d be interested in suggestions from my favorite group of motorcyclists — but they’re not around, so I’m asking you.

Seriously, I’d like input from folks who love riding this bike. Chime in.

Finally this year I had a proper trip with my bike.

I know we've covered this before, but I wanted to add a little new information.
If you don't like the positioning of the horn/turn signal switch, you can do something about it

Honda had always put the turn signal switch above the horn button, until the last 7 years. After 40 years of riding Hondas, it's as instinctive to me as the shift pattern, and I can't get used to the horn above the turn signal.

The 2013 CB1100 had the "correct" pattern, and except for re-drilling the holes for the locating pins, is a bolt on for 2014 models. I also put a 2013 switch on my 2017, which required making an interim sub-harness that I explained in another thread. http://cb1100forum.com/forum/showthread.php?tid=15089


With some late Honda models, I've tried some different things. I've used the NC700X DCT switch and rewired the down-shift button as a horn, (while retaining the original horn button too), as well as rewire the up-shift trigger as a high beam flasher.

On both a PCX150 scooter and a first generation Grom, I've had to add an additional horn button beneath the turn signal switch. I bought just the starter button portion of the switch off a PCX150 (35160-KYZ-901 SWITCH UNIT, STARTER) from Honda for $14. This has a hinged lever that presses on the contacts and has the right size and feel.

I first shortened the lever about 8-10mm and filed it smooth. I spliced wires from the original button to the switch. Then I flipped it over, and held it securely to the bottom of the switch with safety wire (or a zip-tie). I then used either black silicone sealant, or Suguru moldable glue to fill in any gaps or openings. As a final step, I put a dab of red paint to hide the starter symbol.

Well, I did this afternoon what I said I would never do back in 2014, I sold my CB1100. The buyer is a good friend who lives nearby so at least I'll get to see the old steed frequently and I did tell him he could come by and use the lift when servicing his "new" bike.

Now to find a new ride, lighter and a bit easier to move around in the garage like Sparky's NC700X. There are some unsold NC750X models around and I'm looking that way first. I'll stay with the forum as I can't imagine a finer group of motorcycle enthusiasts than those I've met here.
