The previous owner on my bike pulled all the pieces of the bar weights off the bike to install Oxford heated grips but never put them back on. I bought some new aftermarket weights but am wondering if I need to buy and install the whole system of weights that originally ran through most of the bar on both sides. Let me know what you think.

So, I finally found a 2014 CB1100 in Phoenix Arizona for $6,500 The pictures and the description looked fine. So, I flew in from California on Tuesday and went to pick up the bike. That's when the "not so fun" experience started.

The bike had 8,100 miles and it did look like it was garaged for its whole life but the previous owner did not treat it well. The tank had all kinds of swirls and minor scratches that I think I can buff out. The PUIG windscreen was yellowed with many many scratches and the oil was low. The exhaust was yellowed severely. The dealer added some oil and I took off on the bike to my hotel. As I was riding to my hotel, I felt the throttle grip spinning around the throttle tube. I couldn't get full power out of the bike and felt uneasy. As soon as I got to my hotel. I pulled on the Oxford throttle grip and it slid right off! Strike two for this dealer. I did some research and got some Gorilla glue and reglued it and that seemed to fix it.

So, I head out at 5 in the morning to ride 400 miles back to California. The initial couple hundred miles felt good but I was noticed that the fuel gauge was flashing at me when I had just over a gallon of fuel remaining (haven't read the manual yet but I guess this is how it works on this bike). I had major range anxiety at first because I was riding through the desert where gas stations were about 35 miles apart. I finally got used to the fuel gauge and moved on. However, I also noticed a lot of vibration when I applied the front brake at speeds over 45 mph. Don't know if it's the discs or the pads.

About the last one hundred miles the bike started feeling a little sluggish and it didn't seem like a fueling issue. I made it home safely and got on the ground to look at the chain. Upon inspection the center stand was rubbing against the chain. The bump stop on the Delkevic exhaust had rotated enough to eliminate the gap between the chain and center stand. It must have been doing it for a while because the chain cut a 1/4-inch groove in the center stand. So, the chain could have broken at any time and killed me.

So, the bike is home and safe now and I have a lot of work to do. I need to get a new chain, new sprockets, new brake pads, oil change, brake fluid flush, tightening of exhaust clamps, checking torque values on every nut and bolt, and a full detail. I am going to try the tinfoil and vinegar solution to clean the yellowing exhaust cleaned. I welcome any suggestions on any additional checks I should jump on.

The bike was very fun to ride and I am still really glad I purchased it. However, that was too much excitement for my 55-year-old body and I think I used one of my nine lives on the ride.

Hi all, this isn't directly related to the CB1100, but I figured I'd put it out there for everyone's benefit.

Honda typically uses NGK for OEM spark plugs, including the CB1100. I had replaced the plugs on the family Honda CRV 25k miles ago with OEM replacements, purchased on Amazon. Recently, the car has had an intermittent stumble. In the process of eliminating possible causes, I pulled the spark plugs to look at them, and the electrodes were melted.

Clearly I got a set of knock-offs. Just a word of warning for anyone looking to buy new plugs. Stick with the dealer!

Has anyone here ever ridden one of the new Yamaha XSR700s? I do mostly city riding these days and occasionally I dream about adding a lighter bike to the garage.

I am needing to change tires on my 2013 CB1100. The parts diagram I have found online show the Axle nut being 22mm. Mine is larger. Can anyone tell me the correct nut size. This bike is practically new, no mods whatsoever.

Ok having never heard of rlets

what are they ?

Saw two versions in different colors last Saturday at my local dealer. Was scheduled to ride one but hurt my knee pretty bad a week before and was still on the mend so opted not to. General impressions of seeing one in the flesh. Comes off the side stand pretty easily. 568 pounds (1/2 a Frulk) or so WET weight. Looks to be of high build quality throughout.

Lots of electronic toys in the display screen to include wifi phone sync, ride modes etc etc. Tubeless spoked rims, center stand, 150-152 HP. Motor based on vRod model that Porsche collaborated on. Front end looks drew a lot of criticism initially when early pics came out. I used the reference to Bender the Robot, To me it looks more unique than off-putting. Like that it doesn’t have the standard ubiquitous ADV beak.

It’s techy but not overly so. For instance the windscreen is manual for raising and lowering. I like that. One thing I don’t like is the outrageously large muffler. That’s a styling concept I wish would fade away like yesterday.

I’m going to try to take one for a test ride tomorrow pm after my annual medical exam.

Anecdotal Comment: GS rider there just finished riding one. Said it was an impressive motor. Kept on about the torque.

I highly recommend Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance. It's not too clear on Zen and a bit shady on motorcycle maintenance but still a great read if you've never done it.

I'm getting new tires and can save a bunch of $ and get them put on much faster if I bring in the wheels without the bike. I'm a tad nervous about balancing on the center stand with 4x4s holding up the front and rear. Should I be worried. Really don't want to drop it in the garage.
