Here is the latest pix of my two remaining CB1100's. The DLX is still a work in progress, but it does not look too bad. Several parts still need replacing due to fading and/or corrosion.
The mirrors on the DLX had corrosion, but the new Honda mirrors cost way too much. I found this nice replacement set for about $50 off ebay. Installed new Honda rubber base coverings and they look OEM. Nice shape too, and the quality is surprisingly good for the cost.

After buying a new EX in spring 2020, I kept looking at prices of CB1100/s built in 2017 or later. Just for curiosity. Since the CB was sold in different countries for quite different prices to start with, I will just quote my observations in %, not in Euros or USD. Here is what I found:

- throughout 2020, prices in Central Europa for a 2nd hand EX were about 80% of new (bike without damage, up to 20,000 km, any color).
- the RS was hit harder, same condition mostly offered at 70-75%, sometimes at 65%, and still lingering on the market (regardless of the date of initial registration 17-19).

My take, buyers of the RS were a different group of riders, and/or had different expectations, and got more disappointed. So the number of bikes on the market went up, and not enough buyers. It also appeared that the RS did often go through more hands in a shorter time. This seemed to confirm the expectations theory.

This year things have changed a little. Roughly stable (but low) prices for the RS, in particular the black edition isn't in demand. But asking prices for the EX have clearly gone up. They are fewer on the market, they sell quickly - which is usually an indication, that the asking price got met more or less. And I see low mileage EX (1 or 2 y old) in excellent shape which are now offered at the original price tag.

Is this representative ? Of course not. Just my observations in a few markets / countries. Interesting, btw, in France prices for the RS and the EX seem to steadily go down with time and with respect to last year. For the Northern or the Southern countries in Europe, ... I don't know, I don't follow these markets.

Disclaimer: I am long on Honda CB1100 (EX) motorcycles, this is my personal opinion, I wrote this article myself, and you better don't give a damn. Don't bet on rising prices, or you might get burned. But DO enjoy riding.

It might be my imagination but.... I have changed the oil from Semi Synthetic 10-30W to fully Synthetic 10-40W. I have been for one ride only of around 200kms with a bit of in town time, it seemed to me the clutch take up had become quite short in comparison from what it used to be (so from clutch level full in against handgrip to when bike was smoothly moving the lever movement seems short and close to handgrip end rather than over length of level throw).
I have before this bleed the clutch master cylinder so its air free and has new fluid in it.
Has anyone noticed any difference when doing similar oil wise?

I thought I would start a thread to solicit stories about everyone's first "love". Tell everyone about the first motorcycle that really put its hooks into you and made you passionate about motorcycling.

On that note, I will start...

My first and favorite street bike was a 1982 Honda CB900C. I bought it used sometime around 1989. While it may not have been the fastest bike out there, it was definitely one of the prettiest, at least to me anyway. I rode that thing everywhere and whenever possible. There was something about not having windows and steel wrapped around me while I was shooting down the road. Not to sound cliche, but to me that motorcycle was the embodiment of freedom. I had ridden dirt bikes since I was 8, but that bike was an entirely new world of getting from A to B. I religiously washed, waxed and polished that bike once a week for almost 20 years. Sunday service to me was a wash bucket and a bottle of Meguiar's. It was my most prized possession.

Then in 2006 I ended up selling it to a coworker that had a compulsive problem with collecting motorcycles. At the time I sold him my bike, he had something like 12 bikes in his shop. He was always badgering me to sell him my CB900C, especially after I had purchased a new 2004 Honda CB900F (919). As fate would have it the next year, I ended up needing to move back home for a job offer and didn't have the room in the moving truck for two bikes. In a decision I would regret ever since, I concluded that "newer is better" and the CB900 Custom lost out. My coworker assured me he would keep it garaged and baby the heck out of it. Judging by the condition of his other bikes, I had no reason not to believe him. It still looked amazing the day I handed him the keys considering it was then 24 years old.

In a recent fit of nostalgia, I have been wondering what became of my old bike and perhaps if I was lucky, I might possibly buy it back if I could locate my old coworker. I have been casually trying to track him down for a couple months now and I recently found him. I reached out to him through social media and sadly it seems he had fallen on hard times since we last worked together. He and his wife wife of 20+ years had divorced and he is also in the beginning stages of Alzheimer's. After his divorce, he had to sell all of his bikes but two due to downsizing his living arrangements. One of the two he kept was my old CB900 Custom. He told me however, that 5-6 years after he bought it from me, it was stolen from his home and later recovered after having been joyridden, crashed and otherwise completely totaled.

As I sit here contemplating the intricacies of life, and even though I am going through some health issues at the moment, I can't help but feeling that I have been more fortunate than him. The part that tugs at my heart strings is he is still one of the most genuinely nice guys I have ever had the pleasure to work with and is the least deserving of the crap hand he has been dealt.

The other thing I am now contemplating is that perhaps it would have been better to never have known what became of my first and most adored street bike.

My 1982 Honda CB900C, the year before I sold it...

Has anybody noted that the sleeves around quite a few electric wires aren’t sealed ? Looks to me as if water could easily get in and stay there for a long time. Tomorrow I’ll show a few pics, unless this is old hat.

For the FJR fans, somebody wanted to set a new motorcycle "Cannonball Record", (a coast to coast run). He did it in 32 hours, 2,800 miles. He bought a used FJR 1300 with 80,000 miles on the clock, for $5,000, added fuel capacity, and some "electronics", and off he went. Average 87 mph with 120 mph max. for 32 hours.

I bought my CB1100EX one week ago.
I seen that the previous owner mounted a lower handlebar, it is no bad but all the cabbles (brake tube, trottle cables and wiring) has a bad way......
I bought an other stock handlebar and I will assembly it next days.

Is it possible to have any pictures with the complete details of the passage of cables in a stock bike, please?

Just bought a 2013, seller says it has ABS, how can I confirm, maybe from the VIN number?

My dealer says Honda guaranties spare parts for 10 years after sale of the bike. I am pretty sure, Covid interruptions or not, they will do their best and hold up this idea.
But when I look at some of the supply sites in the US or in Europe these days (often shipping parts from Japan), not do I just see "out of stock", but all too many times "discontinued", or "no longer available". The former sounds like a manufacturing / transport hick-up in the COvid aftermath, but the rest ?

Any thoughts ?
