ABS OR NOT ON MY NEW BIKE? - ALPHADOG69_imp - 10-31-2021

Just bought a 2013, seller says it has ABS, how can I confirm, maybe from the VIN number?

G'day Alphadog69. Welcome to the forum. If it is an ABS model the VIN will start JH2SC655. It will also have a sensor ring on the front wheel and a hose that runs from calliper to calliper over the front fender.

What Cormanus said. If it has sensor ring on the rear wheel only, no ABS. Rear sensor only is used for the speedometer. And NOT rear ABS as some were told or thought.

Welcome to this fine Forum ALPHADOG69.

Another (of many) way is following ignition the instrument cluster amber ABS indicator will stay lit until the motorcycle begins to go into motion.

To clarify GO's post, if it is an ABS equipped bike, when you start it, an ABS indicator light will come on in the gauges, which will only go out once you reach 6 mph.

No ABS light = NO ABS

Can the VIN tell me if the bike has ABS?

RE: ABS - emptysea - 11-01-2021

Yes you can. But someone else will have to respond as to how.

Alternatively, you can look on the bike to see if there's an extra braking that crosses over the front fender.

Alternative #2 - you can take the bike out, get it up to 30, then clamp on both brakes just as hard as you can. If you don't fall, it's probably ABS.

I recommend finding out via the VIN number, though. Wink

Alphadog69, this is everything you need to know to tell if your bike has ABS. Locate your VIN and see if the first part is JH2SC655. If it is, you have ABS. If it reads JH2SC651, it is NON-ABS. There will be more numbers after the one or five, but that eighth number will be either a five or a one. A five means ABS, a one means NO ABS.

That information is not correct, as a hose over the front fender indicates a combined ABS.
If the hose over the fender is not present, it may or may not have an ABS but definitely is not combined.
