Hey everyone, I am a new owner of a used 2013 CB1100 with ~9,000 miles.

When I purchased it had a weak start, the starter would turn over slowly, the display would fade in and out and it would eventually start. I ended up replacing the battery with a new one and the bike started right up. After parking it and attempting to start it the next day I still getting the same symptoms as with the old battery. I have load-tested the new battery and it passed. I have a feeling that this is the result of a bad ground. I doubt that I have a stator issue due to the low mileage also the bike runs great and power is consistent through the rev range.

Does anybody have a list of ground locations for the 2013 CB1100? Has anyone had similar symptoms in the past?

The move to TX is becoming a reality. I have officially retired as of yesterday 7/22. Our house is sold and we have to be out by 8/10 or pay a stiff rate for every day after that. We have put in an offer on a great house in Azle, TX, close to Eagle Mountain Lake. I donated the Suzi to charity and am taking the CB with me.

A few posts have been written about the CB1100 headlight, in particular about the lagging LED headlight in the newer model. Some said it's all a matter of adjustment, other claim that the older H4 light of the DLX was so much better, yet others again have claimed it's bulbs, reflectors. That is an important subject - just one late night return home, - planned or unplanned - can turn into a serious accident.

So I thought, I have to see the difference for real. But how am I gonna do this without professional equipment, with connectors not matching inside the headlight buckets, for different models, with parts expensive, etc. etc.

Here come the ultra short version of my tests out in the dark, in the middle of the night and how it's done. I bought 3 different LED lights (7 inches diameter, for motorcycles) from Amazon, all equipped with H4 connectors fitted my car. This allowed me to compare those three lights with the light of my EX, and with the H4 Halogen lights of my car.

Hereunder follow the surprising test results, while the details regarding test setup, and photos I will add later tomorrow or on Monday. Ready ? The winners and the losers are ... sorted by real-world performance:

1) LED1 (from Amazon) : best light in the test, cost ~ 100€, excellent low and high beam, will work in the worst conditions,
2) LED2 (from Amazon) : same here, for 60€ only,
3) my car's lights (both on) : okay, but not as good the LEDs,
4 LED built into my EX : very bright, white light, but the reflector fails to illuminate a sufficient surface in front of the motorcycle, even after careful adjustment,
5) my car's light (only one side) : not very impressive considering the size of the reflector, and the fact that my bulb is top notch and not old,
6) LED3 (from Amazon) : high light output, but useless reflector, also for about 100€,

Has anyone bought tires recently? My '14 still has the original battlax as I have not ridden much at all for last few years. What suggestions do ya'll have ?

I tried to edit my original post title in the thread I started http://cb1100forum.com/forum/showthread.php?tid=18016 but it's not permitted so I'll post the update on ordering a Corbin seat. For reference this is what we put on my order:
Remove backrest hardware.
Raise back portion of seating area 1/2".
Customer wants a more flattened seat.
Black vinyl seating, asphalt sides, no welt, black threads and logo.


The stock seat for me was a little narrow, too soft, and positioned me too close to the tank, I would push myself rearward but the forward slope and rise at the back of the seating area kept sliding me forward.

The seat just arrived, it fits well, and is exactly what I wanted... basically a nice flat, slightly wider, firm, seating surface. The following measurements will give you a comparison. Basically the Corbin seat is about the same overall width as stock, only it's almost as wide at the seating surface as the base, whereas the stock seat is wide at the base but tapers inward to give a 2" narrower seating surface.

Maximum width: Stock 12.25", Corbin 12.75".
Max effective width: Stock 9.25", Corbin 11.5"
Effective width half way toward nose: Stock 6.75", Corbin 8.5"
Width at nose the same.
Depth to rise from nose: Stock 12.75", Corbin 14.25".

Anyway the seat is exactly what I was hoping for and is perfect for me at 5-11", 190#, 32" inseam. For anyone (maybe shorter arms?) who finds the stock seat position about right you will find the standard rise location on this seat a little too far rearward so I'd recommend also having Corbin move the rise forward 1".
