Looking for tools to work on my CB1100 and Honda Shadows.

I had to change a headlight bulb today using the open ended 8mm wrench that I found in the Shadow tool kit. It worked but was less than ideal.

The right tool would have been a racheting box wrench... Even my smallest socket handle was too big to fit in the small space under the headlight assembly.

I used to just buy Craftsman tools, but there are no Sears around me anymore.

Many years ago I got a nice set of sockets from Kmart that were made in Taiwan and very good quality. I still have those.

Lowe's has a decent house brand for some stuff, can't remember the brand name, but they're not cheap.

Figured I'd ask the group here and maybe I'll find something good that I didn't know about. Thanks in advance!

As far as I can tell the future of this site is less than certain. I've seen Guth's note of course, and many of the related answers, but nothing seems certain. Now as you're probably aware that some are working on solutions how to keep this site alive, but this may work, or it may not. Now image for a moment that the site was gone in a few days. How would you get in touch with other members ?
Correct, you could not, because the message board is down, the emails of other members are hidden deep down in the guts of this database, and I am not even sure that the admins have easy access to email addresses of members after the site is down. (Cormanus, could you confirm ?). This could be as much a blast to the future of our board and exchanges as the loss of the site itself.

I suggest two possible solutions - just as a backup in case things don't work out well for our site.
1) For all of us who are not too concerned about keeping their email address hidden / private: we create a central list of members with their email addresses. Anyone could volunteer to host this list which would look more or less like the "member list" on the top right corner. We could work out the details in the answers to this thread here. Each member would have to agree that the list with his user name and email is distributed freely. Admittedly, that's not everybody's cup of tea. Which takes us to solution 2.
2) all of you not willing to loose touch with the active members of this forum could (either temporarily or permanently) register at the German CB1100 forum. It is entirely irrelevant that the site is run in German language. Once you are registered (I would suggest to do this under your old user name followed by something like "US" (if permitted in a user name I would suggest _US or .US at the end of the user name created.

As the German site hosts the same "send email" or "send private message" system this would create a way for all interested members to stay in touch a) without exposing their email addresses, b) with or without ever reading one word in German on the site. All you need is a few instructions how to log in and send a message. Sounds convincing to me, and it is even thinkable that the separate threads in English could be added and slowly grow into the German forum. And if the US forum stays alive or comes back after a while, that's even better and no harm has been done.

Now, you might ask, why the German CB1100 site, why not some English Honda forum elsewhere ? Because many of the more generic Honda forums are much larger, and not focused on the CB1100. I think it is easier to take these steps on a smaller site with a relatively small user base.

Evening, when riding I feel a "mild thud" in the pegs and seat. This vibration doesn't go away with engine tension or when you pull the clutch in. Around 40 mph is the sweet spot for feeling it.

Additionally when I stand on the pegs while riding and look over the front fender there is a slight front end wobble under declaration but nothing to the point of tank slapping.

The bike sat most of last year. The tires are not stock. Could I be feeling flat spots in the tires? I dont see anything on the treads personally. I have put on about 1000 miles this year and would assume by now with the hot humid western NY weather the flat spots, if any, would have worked themselves out...I could be wrong.

A month ago I did a trip from Portland to Eureka to help my friend Jeff paint a house...and to ride of course. We did a month long trip back in 2012 from TX to Central America and then Oregon on our KLR650s, and we've talked about Alaska for some time now...this summer was supposed to be the year, but family committments made that idea too far, but British Columbia seemed do-able.

Jeff had done a solo trip there 4 years ago and wanted to show me around. He's moved on to a BMW1250GS and I had the option to take the same '07 KLR650 that I took before or the CB1100. I chose the KLR so that we could ride offroad together. But I was concerned that he would get bored as I tried to keep up on the road. He was starting Rosyln, WA and the plan was for me to catch up on the KLR...got 30 miles down the road and the 650 started lurching badly...for a minute I thought out of gas? and turned on the reserve...but same thing. To be sure, added a gallon...still lurch / surge every 1-2 seconds. Was able to ride it home, called Jeff, we agreed to start a day later...but on my CB1100! My soft saddle bags fit on the CB, but I did have to ditch my largest seat piece...time to dump tools...CBs never break down...right?

Friday, July 29 we met at the Mukilteo dock to take the ferry to Whidbey Island. I love ferry crossings! Usually they let the mc riders ride up to the front and you are first on / first off.

We were packing camping gear, but were unsure of options on the Canadian side, so we settled for an airbnb in Surrey, just east of Vancouver.


Not even sure which border crossing--I think it was the one just west of Sumas--but zero people in line...First time in Canada!
For Day 2 Saturday, the plan was to ride through Vancouver and head towards Whistler. I'm a little fuzzy on the details as he was navigating, but I think I can figure out where we went after the fact. He loves planning out the trips and he's good at it and using the technology on the fly, so my job was to sit back, keep his bike in sight, and hang on. Very freeing.



The ride north on 99 out of Vancouver towards Whistler, particularly the part along the coast is pure joy in the morning even tho' the holiday weekend traffic was already out. This is the section where I was glad my KLR refused to go on this trip as we rode 75-85mph and the CB1100 can respectably match his GS1250...until he doesn't want me to. Lots of motorcycles doing the same, and practically zero opps to take a photo before Squamish...but some of the most scenic views of the trip.



Later, riders would tell us that too bad we didn't ride beyond Whistler as it's top notch, but we wanted to visit several areas using the ferries, so we backtracked on 99 to catch the next one.

this paradise i have in the front of my housdoor.....a colleague is riding in the last days easy through the south black forest (germany)......but our Cb has too little freedom of inclination.......if I had still had my neo sport cafe i would with him...

Sorry I know this has been discussed before and I've searched and read all I can find.
Ok here's my problem, I am now sometimes carrying a pillion which makes me sit further forward (which has solved the needing bar risers problem) but now the brake pedal is to high

I've read that there is half an inch adjustment but not on mine it seems. So on the adjuster rod I have a 14mm nut and two 12mm nuts which I assumed would lower the brake pedal but on screwing both directions to the full the brake pedal remains the same 32cm off the floor. All that changes is when the brake light comes on or not.

It was only a quick try as time was short but anyone know how to lower the pedal or what I did wrong.

I enjoyed the 750 thread. My 1st bike was a 1980 CB750F. I loved it. I am also currently shopping for a bike as my beloved CB1100 was totaled. A guy near me has 1979 CB750F with only 3,500 miles on it. He's done a beautiful job putting back on the road. I took it for a spin around the neighborhood and I just didn't love it compared with our modern bikes. I definitely don't want a project and don't want a choke either. That being said, the bike is sweet. I'd like to try it out on the highway before really dismissing it. I took an 82 CB900F for spin a year or so ago. The old bikes just aren't as tight, if that makes sense, as the newer ones. They also have to warm up. I just want to ride.

So, I've gotten rid of my FJR1300. It's time to downsize and just do 30 minute rides.

I'd like a bike I don't have to fold up like an accordion when I sit on it.

Other requirements/desires:

1) Inline 4
2) Sub 80 HP

Anything out there like that?

While I was on a business trip last week, I snagged a MotoQuest "Transport Special" deal to take a bike from their Long Beach CA to Portland locations.

I've blocked out next Monday-Friday for the ride, and have a flight home Friday night. I've never been much further north along the coast than about Mendocino, so I'm excited.

As far as budgeting ride time, I'm putting the longest leg in front, which gets me as far north as possible covering ground I'm familiar with, and I'll split up the time for the next four days to Portland. I'm also budgeting my stops for places where I can get cheap lodging, rather than staying in tourist towns as much as possible.

Planning is the interesting part, but the ride should be a lot of fun. The weather looks great for the week.
