1000 miles to paint a house
Posted by: pdedse - 06-26-2022, 01:26 AM - Forum: Seat Time - Replies (19)

A friend of mine who rides bikes lives in Eureka-CA, 400-500 miles from me in OR depending on the route, paints houses there every summer and I had a week off, so...a road trip to help paint!

We talked on the phone last Monday afternoon and he said "you have a week off work? You should come down to help me" to which I replied "I'm in the middle of a bathroom remodel project and my tile saw won't cooperate and..." to which he interrupted and said "that's why you should come, you need a break from that project to help me with mine"...hard to argue with sound logic.

By Monday evening, I had the CB1100 packed and Tuesday was on the road by 8am. Took boring but fast I-5 south out of the Portand, OR area and by noon was in Grants Pass heading towards the coast on fun hiway 199:

Lots of river stop possibilities along the way:

Lots of Redwood parks in northern CA, and the first I road through was Jebediah Smith, a few miles before Crescent City:

As my friend was in the middle of painting that day, no need to get there too early so I spent some time mucking around Crescent City. Views from Battery Point lighthouse:

After Crescent City, you run into Elk country, and true to "Elk Meadow Cabins" name,

...this guy and a few friends were grazing a stone's throw away:

The coastline is beautiful, only interrupted by about 10 construction areas where there were flaggers and one-lane open traffic issues...but the the views do make up for that unpleasantness:

My friend was finishing up the his painting for the day around 6pm so I timed my arrival for a bit after that and it was a great day of riding...because Wednesday was to be all day paint day.

   bike & stone
Posted by: j3gq_imp - 06-26-2022, 01:13 AM - Forum: CB1100 Photos & Videos - No Replies

There is a sort of picture (with a CB1100 in it of course) which makes me smile, feel happy, even humbled. It typically shows sth quite old, big and made of stone or iron, with sth so new, small, and pretty in front. Here is an example:

Will post more of this sort if you like it as much as I do.
please try again (corrected link)

  Original panniers
Posted by: leif.helge@indrevar.no_imp - 06-25-2022, 02:25 AM - Forum: General Discussion - Replies (6)

Thanks for admitting me to this forum! I bought my 2018 CB1100 RS 2nd hand this spring with only 2.900km on the odo. It was equipped with Hepco & Becker panniers. I have observed from different youtube videos that this bike has some kind of original fixtures for panniers (see attached photo). What kind of panniers are these?

I and a couple of buds are headed out to the Born Free Motorcycle show today, near Irvine Lake, CA. Hope to see a lot of custom builds, hear some live music, and eat some food that is not good for me. I'll post some pics.

Anybody travel Lincoln Highway xcountry ?
Posted by: bflint - 06-24-2022, 10:16 AM - Forum: General Discussion - Replies (8)

Hey folks. Have any of you folks ever traveled (moto or car or etc) the full Lincoln Higway? I am thinking about doing it from San Francisco to New York City. There are a couple of "official" resources out there (including lincolnhighwayassoc.org) but this historic 1915 "Father Road" passage does not seem to be that well documented like the "Mother Road" Route 66 passage.

Best online map I found is at https://lincolnhighwayassoc.org/map/ .
*
Looking for some practical advise. Plan to ride it this summerSmile

Thanks.

  PCV, autotune, not running properly
Posted by: TK421_imp - 06-22-2022, 11:34 PM - Forum: Mechanical & Technical - Replies (9)

I just installed PCV with autotune. Had the autotune sensor bing welded in place. Reinstalled exhaust, started right up. Had a flashing check engine light of 2 long and 3 short which I believe is related to o2 sensor heating or something that I attributed to the factory o2 sensor not being installed. The bike was idling great, sounded good, revved great. Did the PAIR block to get rid of the pop. Took a test ride last night. Engine was warmed, easy ride through the country, slow speed through a neighborhood and everything was glorious. Ran through the gears fairly hard on the last stretch of road to go home. Pulled in the clutch as I pulled in the driveway and something was off. Thy e exhaust note sounded different. Pulled in the garage and there is a ticking sound coming from the engine and it starts harder than usual. Idle seemed a little lower than normal and sort of rough. Hoping to get some insights from the experts!

  Power Wheelie!

Hey guys the other day I was just riding around and was in first gear and hit the gas and surprised myself the front tire came right up. Somewhat startled me but also made me giggle like a little school girl. Any of you guys do power wheelies on the occasion?

  Motul oil
Posted by: Maturecheese_imp - 06-20-2022, 12:50 AM - Forum: Mechanical & Technical - Replies (7)

Sorry to bore ya'll with 'oil' But Honda recommend their own 10w30 oil and I just wondered if Motul 5000 10w40 4t is ok to use here in the UK in summer. it's cheaper that the extortionate recommended Honda oil.

  New to me Cb1100
Posted by: Smoothpudding77_imp - 06-18-2022, 01:33 PM - Forum: General Discussion - Replies (8)

New to me 2013 cb1100. I have had about 50 or 60 bikes. Including a 2015 t100 bonneville. This bike is better in every way? Im a little too short for the corbin seat though. Previous owner was really tall. That might go up on ebay.

Will most likely need tires here soon. I like the look of the bt54s for they slip way too easily and hard rock hard.
