  Alarm System
Posted by: cbdtran_imp - 10-17-2013, 03:25 AM - Forum: General Discussion - Replies (3)

someone stole my accessories on my bike few nights ago, helmet, gas tank bag ... I just hang my helmet, stuffs on the bike while I am away for sometime because I don't want to carry with me to the stores. I now lock them up but I have to leave the bike under car porch at night.

Is there a good alarm system that I can install in my bike to deter thief?

  Comfortable after 3600 miles...

Not sure why, but I noticed my butt is not sore from riding my CB1100 after and hour or two now! Not sure if it's because I took a 4 day break during a rainy period, or are my butt and seat finally getting used to each other? I hope this trend continues, it will save me 5 or $600 and I really don't mind the looks of the stock seat.

One last long ride before winter
Posted by: Obliviontoad - 10-16-2013, 02:49 PM - Forum: Seat Time - Replies (2)

Ok,you southern folk can have all your winter fun, but here, with few exceptions the riding season comes to a complete stop, and we all switch to snowmobiles. Global warming aside, thats likely going to be the case here soon.

So I decided to head out on one last day trip to scratch the travel itch. I love the Adirondacks, and have never really ridden the roads up there to any extent. TIme to change that.

Starting in Syracuse, headed east towards Utica, on the Thruway, because going through Verona on a holiday weekend would be uncool. Hit Rt. 12 north, and proceeded to enjoy the ride up.

If you have never ridden up here, you really should. Once in the Park area itself, many of the roads are well maintained, new blacktop, and literally nothing for miles. Twists, turns, straights, and if you are lucky, little traffic.

I made my way up to Saranac Lake in a little under 4 hours. Filled up before I left, once in Otter Lake. Tooled around a bit, hit Lake Placid for the sights. Walked around for a bit, and checked out all the bikers. Lots of Canadians riding. Many BMWs and other touring bikes. And fat Harleys with more chrome than necessary. Stop and go traffic is so much easier than on my Shadow. It was then that I realized it was time to head back.

Not wanting to reverse course, I headed due west on Rt.3. This is pretty much a wooded winding road with a few towns along it. Excellent riding, but I was getting some sun in my eyes as it was heading towards dusk. Ran into more traffic on this part, not a lot of passing. One more fill up in Tupper Lake where I met a nice group of Gold Wing riders chilling at the station. Did I mention gas is wicked pricey up there?

Now I buzzing past Fort Drum, it was dark, and getting rather cold. Yay for cold weather gear! Want heated grips next time tho. Humming along to a detour to 81 south, and I was headed home.

As luck would have it, the rain only started 10 minutes from home, and was not to bad, just enough to remind me that rain and cold suck. Otherwise, it wasn't a big deal.

Still have to figure out my milage from the trip. I probably didn't do so well as I was zipping along the highways a bit. The bike handled as expected, no surprises, and nothing to worry about. I went maybe 400 miles or so, which is great for a days riding. One last long one for the year. Going to be getting the bike ready for winter, but it doesn't get put away. If its insured, theres a chance to ride if its above freezing and the roads are clear.

  600 mile oil change
Posted by: oldstingray_imp - 10-16-2013, 01:20 PM - Forum: Mechanical & Technical - Replies (1)

I changed the oil and filter today, used the Honda 10W30 oil and Honda filter. I may go to synthetic next change. The book says not to use oil that says "energy conserving" or "resource conserving" on it. I found only the high mileage oils are the only ones that don't say it. Is anyone using these?

Replacing Turn Signal- Anyone know how?
Posted by: JustinJayne_imp - 10-16-2013, 12:38 PM - Forum: Mechanical & Technical - Replies (6)

A rock cracked the silver housing on my front right turn signal and have a new one to replace it. Does anyone know the trick to pull the old turn signal off/ replace it with new? It looks to be threaded on but I haven't wanted to force it and risk breaking more. Any insights?

  Headlight connector

I replaced the headlight bulb recently with a PIAA bulb and what a difference. When I removed the headlight there was an electrical connector and in the service manual it is labeled Option 2P (Red) connector. Anyone know what this connector is used for?

  Cafe Racer Conversion pics
Posted by: beemo_imp - 10-15-2013, 12:34 PM - Forum: Accessories/Modifications - Replies (11)

A few pics here of my 2011 CB1100 cafe conversion
Low bars, bar end mirrors, front fork stabilizer, solo seat, 'over racing' billet side covers and sprocket covers, mini indicators and rear light and Moriwaki slip on, center stand removed and rear peg cutbacks and a few other bits of overpriced bling like chrome instrument half covers, oil cooler grill and engine mods. Comfortable ride position as I haven't gone the full rear sets or clip ons.
Any questions - happy to help.
Not sure why 2 of the pics came in upside down - must be something to do with living in Australia
Cheers, Beemo
