  Dropped My NC750X
Posted by: redbirds_imp - 02-16-2023, 02:14 AM - Forum: Motorcycling - General - Replies (19)

It's often said that dropping your bike is not a matter of "if" but "when". My "when" came yesterday, a gorgeous spring like day with clear skies and 70 degree weather. Rode the NC to a dental appointment and upon leaving failed to notice a steep drop off from the sidewalk I was crossing to the road surface. Crossing at an angle, the front wheel kicked to one side and I was thrown clear of the bike and onto the street. Fortunately a fellow in a P/U stopped when he observed my fall and tried to lift my bike for me. As the two of us struggled to lift the bike another man was there to help and the bike was soon righted and on the side stand. After expressing my gratitude to them both I checked myself over and was surprised that I only had a sore shin and a profound feeling of stupidity that I had failed to notice this obvious hazard. Only damage to the NC was a broken front brake lever, amazingly no damage to the plastic panels or engine cases. I credit my safety gear for avoiding any further injury from the fall.
Thinking back, the last time I dropped a bike was 1975 when I low sided my BMW while playing boy racer on an expressway cloverleaf. I've been lucky for a long time. Be careful out there.

  exhaust question
Posted by: Griz53_imp - 02-15-2023, 11:59 AM - Forum: Mechanical & Technical - Replies (11)

while working on my cb1100 today I noticed 3 screws that attached a outer"cone" to the muffler..... I was hoping that taking it off would reveal baffles that could be removed for a deeper sound BUT it was just a steel plate...... now Im wondering IF drilling holes would "open" up the exhaust a bit to achieve the desired deeper sound ??? Has anyone tried this ? Results ?? yes, I guess im just a old school guy wanting more sound LOL pic attached so u can see what Im speaking off

  New toy "23 Z900RS Cafe

Picked up a new stablemate for My CB. Took delivery of it Feb 1. Weather has been terrible here, was only able to get out and ride it 40 mi. last weekend. Also got my CB out for first time in nearly 3 mo. First impression of that Z is great, a whole different animal from the CB. Hard to tell much in only 40 mi. but so far I think I am gonna like it. Been a bad winter here in Denver, not normally like this. my CB had not been started since before Thanksgiving, but managed to take it for a spin last weekend finally. Snow melted just in time to get more today. Sucks when you have shiny new bike in your garage and all you can do is go out there and wipe it down with a diaper every day.... but here it is. It is beautiful at least to my eye.

Wondering if anyone has any comments/experience/knowledge about installing a 6-speed transmission on a 2013? Is it possible? Are major modifications necessary?

  11-16 MY rear shock option - Europe/UK
Posted by: Tev62 - 02-13-2023, 05:29 AM - Forum: Accessories/Modifications - No Replies

I'm always interested in what rear shocks are available for our bikes and came across "The Shock Factory" who supply adjustable and rebuildable shocks for the 2011 to 2016 models at a very reasonable price.

The spring rate will be chosen based on your given input which is always preferable to an off the shelf solution.

£432/€480 incl Tax and Delivery.

Anyone found a supplier in this neck of the woods offering adjustable/rebuildable shocks for the 2017MY's and on at this sort of price? I would invest in a pair at this price if I could find them.

  Changing final gearing
Posted by: STLTHMSTA_imp - 02-12-2023, 09:36 AM - Forum: Mechanical & Technical - Replies (1)

I noticed today that while I had the bike on the center stand the rear wheel sends info to the speedometer. I did not know this prior. Sooooo, that means changing gearing does not affect the speedo readout. Correct??
Thanks, TM

For those who have the red CB1100
Posted by: Griz53_imp - 02-12-2023, 05:53 AM - Forum: Mechanical & Technical - Replies (8)

As u may have found out, our "red" that comes on our bikes is a TRI COAT finish and can be expensive to match.
As I was not happy with having silver side covers plus adding hard bags that I wanted to match the bike I started working on a easier and less expensive option.
Being a auto restoration guy I talked to my buddy at our local paint supply shop, He "scanned" the color on my tank and went to work to find a good match in a std base coat color which only requires a clear coat top coat.
What we found is a 2020 GM "cherry bomb" code 252F, To make this work u will need a darker gray under the red----I first tried directly over the silver side covers but was too light so I sprayed some gray base I had laying around & then the red & found it spot on !
It helps that I have a lot of paint products on hand to experiment with LOL
I was first quoated over 300.00 for the tri coat material and bought a pint of the GM color for 70 bucks so quite a savings and no hassle of doing a tri coat ! I will post some pics when the bike is back together

Milage when replacing chain and sprockets
Posted by: Frulk_imp - 02-10-2023, 06:02 AM - Forum: Mechanical & Technical - Replies (8)

I’m around 22,000 miles on the 2013 and am wondering when you guys ( and possibly gals) started to replace your sprockets and chains. I figure I might as well do it all at once if I’ve met that milage cap where it should be done.
