Milage when replacing chain and sprockets - Frulk_imp - 02-10-2023
I’m around 22,000 miles on the 2013 and am wondering when you guys ( and possibly gals) started to replace your sprockets and chains. I figure I might as well do it all at once if I’ve met that milage cap where it should be done.

I did mine at 37,000 chain, sprockets and rubber cushions but don't think it really needed the rubber cushions. I'm now at 32,500 approx on the replacement set (OEM parts)

I did my first replacement of both chain and sprockets at 30,000 miles. Either the second chain was faulty or I damaged it somehow, but I had to replace it (and the sprockets) after 16,000 miles. That replacement lasted 27,000 miles and probably had a little more life in it.
I don't think the rubber bits have ever been changed.

I replaced everything/OEM, front & rear sprockets, chain and rubber dampers at 41K miles.
The chain was at max stretch , had few kinks, front & rear sprockets had minimal wear, but rubber dampers were almost perfect/like new.
Due to chain kinks, my bike had a vibration in 4th gear/lower speeds
The chain received average service.
The sprockets would easy go to 60K miles but did not want to do half a maintenance = twice, so did everything at one shot. No regrets.

36,000 miles. Replaced with DID x ring chain and standard size sprockets.

30,067 miles. Replaced chain and sprockets. The sprockets looked good, but the chain developed a tight spot. I am disappointed with the mileage I got out of this chain because I cleaned and lubricated my chain regularly. I would clean my chain with a wire brush, wipe it clean with WD-40, blow all the WD-40 off with a high-pressure air hose before lubricating it with Chain Wax approximately every 3,000 - 4,000 miles. I would lubricate it approximately every 500 miles, or less. I've tried various brands of chain lubricant, and I can't really say I've noticed any better performance from one compared to another. Maybe I've just opened up a good conversation topic concerning chain lubricants, because I've known people to have very strong opinions when it comes to chain lube, just like they do concerning motor oil.

Pop on a [url=https://www.tutorochainoiler.com/]Tutoro auto oiler (or decent equivalent) and you may get your 60000 chain range. There are a few searchable posts in this forum.
I wipe the chain maybe twice a year with a stroke of a rag. Never had to replace sprockets or chains. I really dislike bothering with chains, so this seems to work.
In any case, I did it mostly to prevent the chain from turning orange in winter due to exposure to road salt. In all cases, I continued to use those "orange" chains as the oil slowly restored their (** cough **) beauty.

I use Motul cleaner and lube. I’ve always been reasonably good with cleaning and lubrication; cleaning every 500 mi and light lube every other ride. I could have gotten about another 3 or 4000 miles out of the original chain, but we had a lot of rainy days on weekends so I had some down time.
