Hello, I was looking at the japanese honda website on CB. I noticed the jap version has lower ride height. Is it just the seat or the bike is actually lower? I'm a 5'6 asian...looks like the jap version height is perfect for me. I will be ordering K&H seat anyway but i was wondering if the difference comes from the seat or something else. Thanks

I test rode a Harley Livewire this weekend and I must say I am really impressed. Harley has done something really brave here and taken a hard left turn in an attempt to appeal to the "I don't want to dress up like a pirate" crowd. The engineering and design are first rate and owe nothing to the traditionalists. The riding position is very VFR-like and the riding experience is wonderful. It feels really fast in a way that is totally useable. There was a very big crowd at the ride event in Seattle and everybody was uniformly impressed. There were no pirates to be seen, though, which makes me think that the traditional Harley crowd may be less than impressed.

However, I think the electric bike manufacturers are all missing the correct answer, at least in the near term. Until the breakthrough comes in battery chemistry (10 years, 20 years?), I think the best solution would be an all electric bike with a 60 HP motor and a small battery pack for a 10-20 mile range, and a small very efficient internal combustion generator motor (maybe 15 horsepower) capable of putting out enough juice to sustain a 60MPH cruising speed. That way you get the best of everything, with that smooth simple electric drive train, and a good long range.

Hello,
I will be replacing the cover on the left side of the crank case. I do not see any gasket shown in any parts sites. Is a gasket needed, or do I just use Yamabond?

The front disk brakes on the non-ABS model use five 6mm x 18mm Torex bolts. I want to remove the bolts to pull the collars and paint the collars gold - or find someone that will anodyze them.

Any suggestions for finding a 6mm Torex wrench? I'm reluctant to use a Torex bit. I think the bolts will require some force to remove and I'd like a solid one piece wrench - think hex wrenches. I don't want to bugger them up.

I've found torex wrench sets but they are on the pricy side and all I'll ever need is a 6mm Torx.

I tried some auto supply dealers, no luck.

Hi everyone, I'm brand new to this motorcyle and this site. I was in the same boat as many that couldn't decide if they wanted the Bonneville or the CB1100. I'm fortunate enough to be able to have two bikes, so since I couldn't decide I bought the basic Bonneville and also a 2013 CB1100. Well, after a couple weeks I've decided I might like the Bonneville better. All in all the CB is a much better bike in every aspect, except one. I don't like the high frequency vibration I get through the tank and grips. Due to this I have listed my brand new CB1100 on cycletrader and craigslist, and will be taking a significant loss to sell it. Before this thing goes, can anyone confirm what I'm experiencing and offer a solution, or is it just part of the old school "charm" of the bike? I love the styling and everything else about it, so I hate to get rid of it right away and take a big loss, but I also have no interest in keeping it and dealing with it. I can handle it for an hour, but after that my hands start to tingle and the feeling in my knees gets annoying. Thanks in advance for your responses.

I have ample opportunity with so many great tracks nearby and many sport bike friends from the weekend rides through the mountains who regularly do track days.

While this is not the intended use for the gentlemanly CB11, it acquits itself quite well through the curves. Not looking to set any records or even change out the stock tires, but it seems like it'd be fun to lean a little further and ride a little harder in the relatively controlled environment of any of the beautiful tracks nearby.

Anybody tried it?

My wife had said she would not ride W/O a backrest. She decided this afternoon she wanted to go cruising. So we piled onto the CB and rode for about an hour or so. Upon returning home I knew she had enjoyed the ride by the big grin on her face. I have a birthday coming up soon and she said I think I'll get you a luggage rack with a back rest for your birthday. Huh??? Women.....go figure.

The first, as far as I know, meeting of CB1100 owners from Chicagoland was held Saturday, August 9, 2014 at Apple Villa Restaurant in Hoffman Estates, IL.

Attendees: Tim (Short Timer), Todd (Todd_K), and Matt (yours truly)

Discussion topics included: General agreement that corned beef hash is better if crispy, although there seemed to be mild differences on the degree of crispness. Also, suitable admiration was poured onto Todd for being able to carve out time to ride at all with two little ones at home and one on the way. We then set out to make sure our bodies were properly fueled with eggs, various pork products, and coffee--Sorry, Mickey, the Chicagoland Chapter feels that tea is too refined for CB riders and may be better suited for the highfalutin Gold Wing set. (It's also entirely possible that we never discussed tea or Gold Wings)

Formal meeting adjourned and we headed out for a short tour of the northwest and west suburbs of one of the truly great cities in the world.

I thought about killing Todd for his cool Vanson jacket, but he's got kids at home and besides it's probably two sizes too small and then there'd be blood and stuff, so...


I lead the short leg of our trip which would take us west through a very affluent area on a very pretty road so we could see how the other 1% lives. Unfortunately, my camera malfunctioned and I was only able to get a few pics from this section...








Todd would lead the rest our ride together, which would take us south on Hwy31 in the general homeward direction for Tim and Todd. I would have to "suffer" the "inconvenience" of riding a longer return trip alone....oh, the sacrifice of having to spend more time on my bike

31 is not a particularly inspiring road, but it runs roughly along the Fox River through the City of Elgin which was pretty in its own (Todd's description) "post-industrial river town" kind of way. After Elgin, though, 31 opens up nicely and Todd took us off of it onto some very scenic roads, moving us from urban, to suburban, to rural areas in the space of an hour or so; something fairly hard to do in our area in such a short time span.









Our ride ended quicker than I think any of us wanted it to, but we had a wonderful morning and agreed that another meeting/ride should happen soon with less time on the meeting part and lots more time on the ride part.
