Very impressed with the quality of everything included in this kit. Great customer service, too. Looking forward to getting it installed, and hoping that it really does help re-direct some wind at speed for me, as others have found. Thanks to the rest of you that have posted your experiences, it really helped convince me to get one, too.

In reading a number of posts on here, a question has been growing in the back of my mind. What are the motorcycle driving(riding) license requirements like in the US?

Certainly in Europe there is generally a requirement for a specific license to ride motorcycles. Often there are different levels based on the displacement of the bikes such as a license limited to bikes smaller than 125cc etc. Here in Switzerland when I first took my motorcycle license (a long time ago...) you had to first pass a reasonably complex riding exam for bikes up to 125cc. Then, having had that license for two years, you were able to do another exam on bikes exceeding that, providing you the right to ride any size bike. The exams would consist of a technical section including emergency stops, riding through tight sections, balancing on a board etc., and then there would be a 30 to 45 minute ride in traffic where the examiner would follow you in his car and give instructions over a com-unit you place in your helmet.

Although not ideal, these exams would at least ensure you had some sort of knowledge and experience in riding a bike before you could roam the streets. Today there are still exams, but there has been a change with regards to displacement etc., and more importantly a set number of hours in a riding school is mandatory.

Now I would be curious to know what the situation is like in the US and other locations members might be from.

I very frequently am on the freeways and long boring streches of road and I'm just...Im exhausted, I need to find a windshield that is just straight up good...but also, not ugly lol...I see most windshields start up above the headlight; Im not 100% sure, but I'm PRETTY sure, that i want a windshield where it also covers the sides of the headlight, just slightly. Its just...guys, its so infuriating that we can't get certain parts from Honda lol...

Want a sissy bar for the old lady? NOPE, fab one up yourself.

Windshield? haha forget you guys, you're gonna have to get a universal one.

Saddlebags? LOL Yeah right! Maybe one day after you relocate your tail lights. Oh but...you need to fab up a bracket for that too, we aint gonna help you there.

One more thing...I don't miss my old sportster AT ALL...BUT...I certainly DO miss how they had an attachment for every purpose on every bike. How can honda do this to us?

How the heck do you do it?

Just bought one, and forgot to get the manual. I called them and said where is the owners manual? They said look under the seat.

Next question to them - How exactly, my quick look told me zilch ?

The salesman took hours to find out. He said remove 2 bolts on the chrome fender. Really, where are they? Under the fender? The long shafts on the side (hex head) hold the blinker assembly on.

I feel really stupid asking this question.

Dear reader,

Some of you, I know followed my exploits in the run up to CB ownership.

You may recall my narrow escape from the Kawasaki sales babe, the Clearing Of The Garage, my traumatic test ride, the total failure of my negotiating skills with the Honda salesman, and the warm glow of ownership mirroring the little red glow in the centre of the Honda badge.

So, you may ask, how's the squid getting on?; has he, as Cager would say, been giving the beans to it?, are there scuffed patches on his leathers at knee and elbow?, has the Institute of Advanced Motorists been clamouring for his advice in a consultancy role? Do police motorcyclists bow down and proclaim "we're not worthy" as he glides past?

No, gentle reader, let me tell you what the squid did on his second day of ownership.

He dropped it.

Surely, you proclaim, he must have been on the very edge of the envelope, gonads dangling in the slipstream, steely eyes fixed on the vanishing point, rear end squirming and juddering under power.....

No.

Sadly, he was pulling out of a junction onto a completely empty road when, at walking pace, he stalled it, and failed to pull the clutch in.

The bike which was practically stationary by then, did a passable imitation of a felled redwood tree, with pretty much the same terrible unstoppable momentum.

That didn't stop the squid from trying to stop it though, oh no, never let it be said that the squid was ever put off by trifles such as the laws of physics.

The bike suffered a few, barely noticeable scratches on the mirror, brake handle, engine cover, and exhaust (and I'm sure the brake pedal was always at that angle).

Sadly, all that energy had to go somewhere, and the squid suffered a torn hamstring, and pulled muscles in his arm.

(Not too painful, but the bruising that came out a week later was biblically spectacular in colour and extent)

Needless to say, there were bystanders who saw the whole sorry incident and rushed over to help.

None of the inconsiderate so and sos had the grace to turn away and let me die of embarrassment in peace.

On the plus side, I can report that the 'bum against the seat, back to the bike, hold grip and pillion handle, and walk backward' method of lifting the bike works a treat, as does the 'engine cutout on falling over'.

Ho Hum.
