A lot of us experienced people mistaking our CB1100 for the vintage CB750s, etc. That happened to me again this morning, but with a little twist.
While I was packing my car this morning for a short trip. A person I know saw me and stopped in to update me on a business matter. Since it was raining, he stepped into my garage for our conversation, right next to my CB1100 with my CB77 parked right behind it. Keep in mind he is about the same age as I, mid to late 60s.
He said, “you really kept this bike in nice shape!”. Thinking he was referring to my CB77, I look around and he was standing next to and looking down at the CB1100. Of course I had to explained the bike is a 2014 model that was built as a retro etc . etc. He asked me if I ride it much while trying to find the odometer on the instrument cluster. I turned the key and he could see 2,200 miles.
What came next is what I did not expect. He said “You know that these bikes are usually worn-out by 10,000 mile” I told him I hope to be able to ride this bike to at least 100,000 miles.
Not sure what he was thinking of, a 50cc moped, etc.?

Out riding the ST last night with my wife, and the secondary master cylinder malfunctioned and locked up my rear wheel throwing us into a sudden and unexpected skid. I managed to keep it upright until it stopped. Probably going 30-35 mph. Nice long black squiggly skid mark on the road. Scared the beejeebus out of my wife. Anyhow after a minute it let up and I could roll it. Being 2 miles from home I decided to try and ride it on in. THe rear brake started draggin badly but I kept going and made it into the driveway. The rear rotor smelled bad and was glowing red. Not good. Had to wait awhile before it cooled down enough to release and let me roll it into the garage.

So this morning I rolled out the CB and rode down to the shop to arrange a pick up of the St and get a feel for what this repair was going to cost (probably $600 or so..caliper rebuild, rotor, brake pads etc).

So I head home on the CB the long way, and stop for gas about 25 miles from home. fill up, turn on the key, and nothing. Needles flickered but it wouldn't start. On the third bump start try it fired up and I rode it home. Called the shop and they have a battery. Will head down there after eating a sandwich and pick it up. Stock battery is a month or two past 4 years old.

Hope my truck starts and runs ok lol.

My apologies if this has been beat to death but now that the bike has been around for 5 years does anybody have anymore info on the wheel conversion as far as what year spoked hubs will bolt up to a 2014 Standard? I’m starting to round up parts and as far as what I can get from the info is 2017 has spoke wheels U.S. model bit is there an earlier model that also has spoke wheels that will bolt up to the 2014,I understand the rear brake caliper and hose needs to be used also from a spoke wheel bike. Thanks.

I am currently on my annual trip to Japan, and I had the privilege to get invited to the Moriwaki factory. It was an amazing visit, and the high point was in the end when because I had told them I ride a CB1100 they brought out their incredible Cafe Racer. This is a very unique bike, and the details are stunning!!! I wish I could get that handmade aluminium tank!!

What can I say?

I regret to announce my 2014 cb1100 died a painful death Wednesday April 11th when a 98 ford Taurus pulled in front of me about 4 miles from my home. I suffered a broken pelvis and both feet were broken in a couple of places but I will recover in about 16 weeks. The beloved CB1100 will not recover. RIP

Is it the 2014 Standard?

this didn't happen today, but i've been too busy to post:

Got sideswiped in my neighborhood by an SUV. She swerved a hard right right into the left side of my CB, crushed my ankle (the shifter punctured my ankle actually, quite a few stitches), bent my shifter underneath the bike, cracked my crank case cover, and then proceeded to rail at me as if it was my fault. she had the nerve to get out of her vehicle, look at me with my shoe filling up with blood and say "oh, did you hurt yourself?" I swear, people incite me to murder .

Service has not yet begun on the bike, but I may ask for everybody's advice on what they think about the severity of the damage. if the crank case cover takes enough of a hit to crack it and leak oil, is the damage likely confined only to the crank case cover or is it likely i have deeper issues?

I decided the owners manual deserved something better than a cheesy lil' plastic bag. Hence, my effort at a new and improved 'Protector, Owners Manual'.

Hi:

Do you remove the mufflers to do a chain adjustment, or you just fiddle around them?

If you remove them: how easy/hard is it?

I have a 17RS, and yesterday I adjusted my chain (mufflers on). Access to the wheel axle nuts is fine, but the space to the tensioners is so tight that I was turning the nuts on the tensioners at a rate of 1/2 face each time. Not the most efficient way...
