  Finally...one in the wild

I posted a few days ago about how I had never seen anyone's CB1100 "in the wild" and then today at work (Gresham, OR) I spot this beauty lurking among the parking lot pines...

  2014 vs 2017 mpg
Posted by: DaSwami_imp - 05-17-2018, 09:12 AM - Forum: General Discussion - Replies (17)

I read a review where the writer raved about the 2017 EX but lamented that it "drinks the gas".

My old 2014, with my big carcass on it, got 45-47 mog

I read that the BMW R Nine T models made Euro 4 compliant lost a few mpg. I know the 2017 EX is Euro 4 compliant also.

Can anyone, especially those that have owned both models, comment on your actual calculated mpg on the 2017 EX?

Thanks!!!

  Valve Adjustment Intervals
Posted by: CBRider_imp - 05-16-2018, 01:49 PM - Forum: Mechanical & Technical - Replies (32)

I've been reading the thread on observed valve clearance and noticed that many have started checking valve clearance at around 8,000 miles.

When I purchased my new 2017 CB1100 EX the dealer gave me a printed maintenance schedule which they said needed to be done to maintain the factory warranty. That schedule listed the first valve check at 8,000 miles. However, my 2017 owners manual (I haven't ordered the service manual yet) shows the first valve check at 12,000 miles.

Did the earlier year models have 8,000 mile intervals on the check? I normally do my own maintenance anyway, but I was wondering if the dealer is just trying to drum up some extra work for their shop.

  Grip Puppies
Posted by: KiowaEagle_imp - 05-16-2018, 06:16 AM - Forum: Accessories/Modifications - Replies (15)

I just picked up a pair on the recommendation of many on this forum. One question though. They seem to be about 3/8 of an inch too long for my 2014 model's grips. Did you trim them or just put them on and compress them a bit. I understand they're not the easiest things to get on so I don't want to get one on and realize after the fact that I should have trimmed it first.

  Touring in rain ?
Posted by: bflint - 05-16-2018, 05:37 AM - Forum: General Discussion - Replies (48)

Anybody do long rides in rain/thunderstorms? I only ride in sunny/cloudy skys, not rainy skys. I'm getting ready to start tour from San Diego CA to Annapolis Maryland. Planned on late May or early June depending on weather, but Maryland buddy wants me to make it to his party on May 27. Problem is, all the traveling routes seem to have rain/thunderstorms in the forecast for all of May. Don't know if this inclimate weather lasts all day or for just a few hours each day ... guess if it was for just a few hour each day I could take shelter. Thoughts? Smile

  Sena 10C Helmet Comm w/Camera ?
Posted by: bflint - 05-16-2018, 05:27 AM - Forum: Accessories/Modifications - Replies (8)

Any of you folks think the Sena 10C Helmet Comm w/Camera is a viable 2-in-1 product for touring? My current opinion is that its older technology and doesn't do any one thing great, but does multiple things adequately.
*
I don't have a helmet comm and would like one for getting audio driving directions from by Apple iPhone (especially when driving in cities). Additionally have seen various GoPro type motorcycle videos and slideshows that look cool.
*
Think I would use the following features:
Bluetooth Comm
Photo Time-lapse
Video Time-lapse
FM radio (can only loop thru mp3's for so long).
*
Thanks for whatever thoughts youve got. Smile

  Wrist Pain Relief
Posted by: chandler_imp - 05-15-2018, 08:54 PM - Forum: Accessories/Modifications - Replies (11)

After reading a few different threads last night, I bought grip puppies, a cramp buster, and a go cruise throttle lock. Anyone have all three of these on their bike? Is this overkill? I have a three day trip planned in about a week and I need some relief to make it through.
