Greetings! Does anybody know of a digital speedometer/tachometer setup that can replace the stock units? Preferably in the same round bodies? I'd love to not have to squint to see my speed while traveling at high speeds.

Can others access theirs? Hopefully, it's only temporary.

These questions are in reference to used motorcycle sales transactions between private individuals.

Seller's Perspective
When you're selling a bike, do you insist on holding the asking price in cash while the prospective buyer takes a test ride? Or do you let the prospect take a test ride without holding any security? Are you concerned about the possibility of your bike being dropped or wrecked by a rider whose skills are unknown to you?

Buyer's Perspective
Are you understanding of a seller who wants to hold cash during the test ride? Or are you put off by the expectation and refuse to work with a seller who has that requirement?

it's good to be the big fish..

this is my first attempt at solving my problem of not being able to read the time on the CB's display.. it works fairly well, but I want something just a little larger.. the handle bar mounted clocks are so cheap now, I ordered several different ones.. their cost is about $7. to $12. I wanted digital, but must settle for analog.. I had planned on using this stick-on with a handle bar mount, but found it is smaller than the analog ones.. the stick-on is about 1inch in diameter and the analogs are about 1 1/4 inches..

Had some special visitors drop down from Chicago area yesterday. One was riding a CB 1100. The other a really pretty Triumph.

We went out to dinner at a nice local place called Front Street Cafe right next to the Ohio River and listened to some Blues music (the more upscale of the 2 places open in town lol) before returning to our abode to sit on Mrs Ferret's screened in porch and visit a spell.

The next morning we went for a local ride to Stonelick Lake, through a covered bridge and rode some local curvy country roads. Stopped at Mama's Grill for lunch, then we headed back towards Indiana as they had reservations in Indianapolis for dinner to celebrate their 30th anniversary. I left them at the Ohio/Indiana border and returned home around the southern route thru Indiana and Kentucky. 161 miles for me.









had a great visit and a good time, riding and eating with some good forum friends.

I had the opportunity to "commute" to the coast five times over the course of the summer, about 250 miles one way, and thought it would be nice to have some wind protection.
I agree with all who say the bike is lovely on country roads between 45 and 60 mph, naked. I do have to keep up with freeway traffic at times and enjoy longer rides, so after perusing the various options and opinions thought I would give the Plexistar 2 a try.
I copied Dude's lead from the "Windshield Hell" thread and Plasti-dipped the inside, actually used the Rustoleum Peel Coat, which offers a better color selection at Home Depot.
I chose silver with a dark gray over coat, which gives a pleasant non glare finish inside the shield and a nice look from the outside, close to matching the side cover.
Took it for a spin to Black Butte and it performed well, more wind noise but no real buffeting. Solid and stable to 85 mph, had a 15 to 20 mph headwind and crosswind at times, no problem. I look forward to getting to the coast again before it gets too wet, and feel like it will be a good fit for winter around here.

No, this is not ( thankfully ) another debate over oil brands, types (dino or synthetic), or viscosities. Our owners manuals call for API classification SG or higher except energy conserving or resource conserving ( those additives are not good for our machines) on the circular API service label, SAE 10W30, Jaso T903 standard MA. I think most, if not all of us understand everything except the Jaso. I have no qualms about admitting Jaso was foreign to me, and decided to find out what it all meant. Fortunately I found a very well written, easy to follow and understand explanation, and have included a link to the article here. So here's the story....

I was dating a woman and we were going to go on a trip to a resort near Tuscon at the end of the month. But we've broken up so now I have airline tickets flying into Tuscon Friday morning 9/27 and flying out of Phoenix Monday afternoon 9/30 that I can't get reimbursed for. So I thought I might as well go. I've already taken off those days and I'd lose most of the money if I don't use them.

I figured I'd go out there, rent a bike and tool around a bit. So two questions, anybody know a good place to rent and any suggestions as to where to ride?

another question from Belgium. sorry for my english in advance. I know there is a lot written about tics and clicks on the forum and i read all i could find but am still worried...

So last year (november i guess) i bought a Honda cb1100 2013 as my first bike. before i never driven one. I'm as new in motorcycles as i am in forums. anyhow..

i bought the bike at 30.000 km, the first owner bought it at the same Honda dealer as i did and this shop always maintened the bike (as they told me).. i had to go back to the shop at around 36000 for a first check. so i did it around 35000 to be sure (in may), i brought it in the night before. so they call me the day they're working on it and ask me if they don't have to check the valves. i said you tell me. i'm a new biker, learning every day, what the heck did i know about valves. so they checked the valves, chainged the oil, put some new tyres as i asked, etc. a lot of euros afterwards everybody asked me why the heck they checked the valves so soon....
when it came out the shop after the checkup i heard a ticking sound in the motor that wasnt there before at all. it ran smoodly before. i went back and asked to check it and they solved it, no ticking sounds anymore. there was a little ring missing and air was slipping out wich gave the ticking sound. resolved anyway.

a week or two ago i started hearing another tick. so when i start the bike it is not there, but when i ride 5 minutes and she's warm, it ticks. It's one tick, or two. when in neutral, 1st, 2nd, any shift, and i go from 1100rpm to let's say 2000rpms, somewhere in the middle there is one tick. and it's louder when the bike is warmer. i'm now around 40000 km, i checked and noticed there was no oil in it anymore. wich was weird since they changed it only 5000 km ago and honda asks to do it after 6000. And why is the oil gone? i put it in my garage every night, it does not leak on the floor.. so i went to a shop neirby (not the dealer, a yamaha dealer closeby) who putted some 10w40 in it. the tick is still there. i check every day the oil level now, the oil doesnt leave for now..

i decided to drive to another Honda dealer in my region. not where i bought the bike, but less far and they only do Hondabikes. where i bought it they do ktm, yamaha, a lot, and they communicatie strange about valves and such. In the Honda shop where i went this week they also said it's strange they changed the valves so quickly. and they think the thicking sound is an electrical sound. they're gonna change the sprak plugs cause its still the first ones, change the oil filter again, the airfilter also and search where the tick comes from..(donna cost me euros i'm afraid)

you guys any ideas on that one tick? since i'm such a green biker you think their taking advantage of me selling me valve checkups and oil and sprak plugs when they have the chance? or i gotta relax and let them handle it, accept biking costs expirience or money, ignore the tick till my appointment next friday and feel safe when i drive it till then?
