CB1100 - Three months - 20,000 Km - Canada coast to coast bucket list trip - Mandrau_imp - 08-29-2019

It has been some time since I checked in and my respect of this forum moves me to provide an update.

The short of it is my 2016 CB1100 performed flawlessly with not a niggle of a problem. Fell in love all over again with this bike.

Three oil and filter changes later and a set of new rubber. Honda dealerships in Victoria, Saskatoon and New Brunswick all took me in without an appointment. Switched to high performance synthetic in Saskatoon and the bike seemed to like it so will stick to synthetic from now on.

The new rubber was a pleasant surprise as the tires were being replaced with a mis-matched set that were in stock. Front: Micheline Pilot Road 4 GT 120/70 ZR18 (felt more confident over all). Rear: Continental Trail Attack 2 140/80 - 18 (bias tube type) which has more meat on it than my last tire. I did not experience any issues with the mis-matched set.

Bike was outfitted with Dart Fly Screen (Marlin) for wind management. A 70L Seal Line water proof duffle strapped to Honda OEM rear rack plus Tourmaster basic saddle bags and a Nelson Rigg tank bag. ROK straps made life easier on the road.

I learned a heck of-a-lot about my bike and about myself...Cheers!

That looks like a very tight setup as far as luggage goes. Beautiful mountains! I hope you take the time to do a road report with photos. Let the rest of us see Canada!

Mandrau, I forgot to ask, is that the Athabasca glacier in the background?

Hey Rocky. I think that was taken just North of Lake Louise on the way to Jasper. I have not even looked at the pics yet except to select one for the post.

Thanks Ferret. Did it when I was seventeen hitch hiking, swimming both oceans in the same summer and dreamed of doing it on a bike one day. Fifty years later...now what?

I rode through there heading east in 2010 and the next stop after the glacier was Lake Louise so I'm sure it's the Athabasca.
I think it's fantastic that you lived your dream Thumbs Up Thumbs Up

When I was in my 20's I dreamed of riding in the Alps on a BMW. Finally got it done when I was 62, so I know the feeling.

That's the way you do it.

Sweet pic of the glacier trailing off the CB.

Congrats Mandrau!
