Had a good week for riding with moderate temperatures in the upper 70's and lower 80's then it started raining Thursday, Friday morning. Only P/U's and other high clearance vehicles can use the road now. Some pics of the road in front of my home.

Road will need to dry for a few days before the county can start repairing the culverts that have been collapsed for years. At least it's cut down on the four wheeler crowd.

Yesterday, I heard the purr of my white CB so I took her out for a 521kms/323 mile ride to Tobermory, ON.
I love this route/region, and been there multiple times, by bike and car.

Weather was so perfect; warm, sunny, minimal wind/traffic and new pavement for almost half a distance.

Gassed her up on a side stand and I rode cruising 80-100 kms/h, just under 2900rpm/min, mostly in 6th, so fuel consumption was minimal.
I just couldn't believe, I made my round trip/521 kms with one tank ( I have DLX/Japanese EX size of about 17-18 L). My previous record was 495 kms.
If I did fill up while on centre stand, I would assume, I could hit 550 kms under these circumstances....and this is my new challenge possible this Friday.
Normally, freeway rides at a higher speed will let me make slightly over 300 kms.





When I came back home, there were two surprises at the door step, both for my DLX, front fender extender and side stand enlarger, professionally made for CB1100.

So, this morning I got bored waiting for my turn to talk during the weekly conference call, and was cruising Craig's List as I like to do. Found an oddly good deal on a Honda that would be a great starter bike for Mrs. Gone. Mind you, we haven't gotten past the "I think I might want to think about riding" phase.

I text her the listing, and she asks a bunch of questions - would it fit in the garage, what would the insurance and annual registration cost, etc. I tell her everything will be so cheap, we wouldn't even notice, of course. She sounded hesitant, but said that if it was such a great deal, that I should at least investigate it.

What made it particularly attractive was that it was within fifteen minutes of my office, so it wouldn't be a huge time-suck to at least go look at it. The ad said it ran perfectly, had a clean title, and current registration.

Conversation 1:
Ad says it runs perfectly. Is that true?
Well, we lost the keys...
When did it last run?
About two years ago.
Ok, let me think.

Conversation 2:
We found the keys!
Huh.
And it runs perfectly!
Hasn't started in two years, but it runs perfectly?
Yes!

I'd like to at least come look at it, if that's ok.
Well, now that we have the keys, we're only entertaining serious people who are willing to pay full cash price. No discounts!
I'm a serious buyer if, like your ad says, the title is clean, and the registration is current.
Well... it's so old that it's probably out of the system by now, I think. Let me go look to see if I have the paperwork, and I'll call you back.
By the way, are you bringing a truck?
Why do I need a truck if it runs perfectly and is registered?

My wife and I have been fortunate to ride many of the great roads in this country. All of the serpent and lizard roads I can think of including this one, Rattlesnake Grade in Oregon and Washington (Ore Rt 3 Wash Rt 129).BTW there is a sign as you start on the road in Oregon that says next gas 177 miles. On a CB you might need a spare fuel cell. We were on the ST with a 7.7 gal gas tank. I looked down and we were on 1/2. I went back to the last town a few miles back and filled up "just in case" lol.

Hello. Has anyone had this issue. If I turn the on/ off switch off to shut off my CB it’s hard to start back up when I hit the starter button. The battery/ alternator light is on as well until the CB runs a bit. It seems I’m lucky my CB turns over. If I turn off my CB with My key and leave the on/off button on My CB starts right up, no battery/ alternator light on. The 2 clip wires are attached in that area. Thanks I advance for any help. Not sure if this is germane specifically to CB's but I find working on my bike is much more pleasurable with the company provided by my favorite doggy, Misty.

When I drop a tool or worse yet, a Fastener somewhere in the nooks and crannies of the engine, I can get impatient and frustrated. When I start mumbling to myself venting my frustration in the moment, Misty comes over to me and always resets my mood for the better. Some petting, hugging and licking (her not me), and I'm refreshed and ready to work again.

This particular dog was a rescue dog. She's ~3 Years old and belonged to a Puppy Mill where the owners abused her. Local animal authorities removed her from the owners when neighbors reported hearing her barking and crying while the owners were yelling. Misty jumped out of a window on the second story of the building during this and landed on the ground hard dislocating her left front shoulder. When the animal authorities arrived, she had a number of small cuts and contusions. The animal authorities took her and nursed her back to some level of health.

Now we have her, she's been fixed, all shots up-to-date, put 10 lbs back on (you could see her ribs and vertebrae when we got her) and is happy as can be. She's get a nice bath twice a week, special treats with medicine to help her deal with the residual pains from her prior experiences and attention galore. She even has her own kiddy pool out back which she jumps in every day when out playing in the sun.

Anyway, anybody else have dogs that hang out with them in the shop?
