Saw my first CB1100 out and about here in Oregon that wasn't my own.

I was finishing up with some time spent fly fishing at McIver State Park today and as I was loading up my gear a small group of motorcyclists came riding by, including a CB1100. I was just wondering if it was anyone here.

Maintenance day.
I had them check the valves...dead on spec. Still cost me too much money, but I didn't feel like messing with it.



So I got a new front tire:



And this is the original rear....still going strong:



The guy that did the work was shocked at the front lasting that long...and FLOORED about the rear being the original.

Just did my first oil change. I have been using Rotella T6 5-40 synthetic with a MO rating in my ST and XX and put it in the CB. Warming it up on the center stand after the change to fill the filter I noticed a knock in the lower end. Not a valve tick from the top. Taking it off the center stand onto the side stand it increased from the right side. Knock went away and went for a short ride 20mi. I noticed the recovery in the site glass was very slow. Put her on the center stand and ran it for about 10 minutes looking at the site glass. No oil in the window on level ground, turned off the motor and waited at least 30 seconds for oil to appear and then slowly inched up tho the full mark. The factory oil came out like water, this came out much thicker. This oil is much to heavy for this bike, either moving to slow through the oil cooler or returning from the top end.

Went to Dealer for Honda 10-30 synthetic & new filter. . Ran engine again on center stand even when cold you could see the oil level in the site glass bathing the lower end and when I turned the motor off return to the full mark was just about 10-15 seconds. Quite evident this bike requires a very thin motor oil.

Needless to say all bikes received oil changes today.

Please be careful and aware when using different oil then recommended.

I have read through the post in my thread. This is a HELP THREAD has nothing to do with what oil you should use or to promote same. I'm not a newbie, been around the block a few times and belong to a few forums. I only post things that have meat to them and may be helpful to others.

Mods almost complete:
-CB500f mirrors (These are great!)
-Staintune slip-on
-Renthal low bars
-License plate bracket mod
-Ohlins piggybacks: had to modify grab rails so they would fit.

Then I covered that nice chrome with a GIVI plate



Then I covered the GIVI plate with another plate

I like that it opens part way or all the way you set it by these little tabs





There are many on ADV who HATE top cases. I have a trip coming up and must say a top case comes in real handy on a long ride. A place to lock coat, helmet, etc. when you are not with the bike. I am not saying it will be on my CB 100% of the time.
It has a locking mechanism in rear center



And two more side locks that, well, dont lock. Must be insurance locks?





Put a small Nat Cycle windscreen on. I just wanted something to take some blast off my chest



Robbed my dirt bike of the thermometer and GPS holder in prep for this trip. Ran a hardwire to the battery for the GPS





I have about 3 options for the passenger seat. My old Cabelas waterproof bag, or a the Wolfman waterproof duffel I just won as a door prize at ADV WestFest, or my old reliable, a MotoFizz camping seat bag:





Whichever I choose I should have more than enough capacity for a 6 day ride.

In an attempt to duplicate the information that was lost when the old Lucas taillight thread disappeared, I am posting here are some photos of my motorcycle with those same modifications. The Lockhart Phillips turn signals are cast aluminum and they are top quality items. Amazingly, a set of two of these lights is only about $20 from J&P Cycles. The originals are plastic although they are also outstanding quality. Most of you are aware the Japanese model CB11's have much smaller turn signals than the US models. The smaller turn signals are more appealing to my eye. These Lockhart Phillips signals pretty closely duplicate the size of the Japanese units. I started out by just putting one LP signal on and I compared it's brightness to the stock unit on the other side when activated. The bulbs must be the same or very similar because they both display the same level of brightness when the turn signals are operating.

In conjunction with the smaller Lucas taillight and without the huge stock license plate bracket the total effect is like taking a cute young girl out of a pair of cargo shorts and putting her cute butt into a thong bikini. I mean, if you like that kind of thing.

I have a ton to do today to prepare for some upcoming events so I don't have time to post a Chip Beck Spec "how to" thread yet. But I will when time permits. Most of it is pretty straightforward but there are a few potential snags.

In any event, here's what it looks like. For members who like the look of the stock rear end and the basic shape of the stock taillight and turn signals but would simply like units that are a bit smaller and less obtrusive, this may be a solution. I really like it but then again, I've always had an affinity for well constructed and scantily clad female posteriors. All the best.

I thought it might be nice to have a torque spec thread (but without breaking any copyright laws )

So, could some kind soul please provide the torque specs for the bolts indicated? Thanks! I'm pretty happy with the SW crash bars. I used some black enamel on a couple washers and the bare engine surface where that washer used to be, but it's a nice product.

Yesterday the parts manual for the CB1100 arrived ,ordered from Samurider.I think that is is printed on demand and is all in Japanese.It cost about $70 plus shipping.When I order parts I always use the online info but working in your garage it is nice to have a paper book with all the parts in it and how it is put together.You have everything right in front of you.The parts numbers I checked are the same but many different versions for different countries are made in the CB1100.I am now going to find me a Japanese girl friend to help in translating all the info I have in Japanese and to help me getting to certain parts on the bike as my hands are sometimes too big to get to a certain part.

OK. I'm old, uninformed and puzzled.
What the heck is up with the price of aftermarket front brake and clutch levers? The prices are astounding!
I thought a nice little upgrade for the 1100 would be a cool set of brake and clutch levers.................little did I know that they cost more than tires! WTH???????
Back in the day, I had always loved the shape and feel of Magura levers. As I've found out, they are made only for bicycles now, which to me is even more puzzling!!!!!!!!
Evidently, PAZZO is the best brand nowadays but for God's sakes do I really have to apply for a loan to buy the damned things??????????
Can someone enlighten this old, fat, gray-haired guy?
