  broke 100mph today

Banana
First time since I bought my CB that I rode it over 100 MPH today, maybe it was the sport bike hanging behind me for 10 miles, maybe it was the "big" hill on Rt 273 where I used to hit 150+ on my Ninja, or maybe I was bored but I hit 110+ and was almost starting to think...."they may have forgotten the speed limiter on my bike" I'm getting over 115 mph...but than it hit, that was it, but that was enough, lotta fun, wish I could have captured it on video...maybe another time.

My 13 is pretty well stock and have wanted add some farkle. But wanted to save some dough.
Maybe some of you have parts that did not work out or won't fit on a 14 you have now.
Seat is a big wish item. And lower bars

  New Banner?
Posted by: DAC - 04-06-2014, 10:55 AM - Forum: General Discussion - Replies (31)

Seems like the 14's are arriving in quantity!! Does it make sense for us to have a new site banner with a black Std and a DLX alongside the '13? I don't want to make work for Guth and Ferret who already do so much for this forum. Just a thought.

Ok had the bike 1 whole day, time to commence farklin

Farkle #1 was the rubber bar end thingies put on at the shop

along with the Progrip 719 Gel Grips

next up was removing the curb feelers from the footpegs *Note the size of the side stand pad behind the peg...are the 13's that large? It looks like a ducks foot!

[url=http://smg.photobucket.com/user/theferret111/media/april6006_zps532c340c.jpg.html][Image: f5549280ab7a7dbb19b0a02bd4cb0b88.jpg]

Next came my helmet guardian for locking my helmet to the bike

[url=http://smg.photobucket.com/user/theferret111/media/april6009_zpsd29689be.jpg.html][Image: c19d5dcee24fcef206f01c09e4366bd5.jpg]

after checking tire pressure I added my knurled aluminum valve stem caps

[url=http://smg.photobucket.com/user/theferret111/media/april6021_zps0122e86e.jpg.html][Image: e4ecbde53b6ddbaaaf11a1f2ef16a81a.jpg]

next up was addressing the inadequacies in the tool kit with enough tools to adjust the rear shock and adjust the chain out on the road along with a spare fuse for my battery tender jr, a shop towel and some rubber gloves

[url=http://smg.photobucket.com/user/theferret111/media/april6016_zps1892a069.jpg.html][Image: fc13460194b951c2660825fa7d94fd28.jpg]

on top of that went a road size can of chain lube for trips

[url=http://smg.photobucket.com/user/theferret111/media/april6017_zpsde75ab26.jpg.html][Image: 46a6c9ec9f71d37370e3e142e5bc2e31.jpg]

I put some sticky backed felt under on the top tree to protect it from a dangling key

[url=http://smg.photobucket.com/user/theferret111/media/april6012_zpsd1b74ab4.jpg.html][Image: 0d94ee258829773eb63a54bab3d60a55.jpg]

finally off came the tank stickers
[url=http://smg.photobucket.com/user/theferret111/media/april6010_zpscc4214d9.jpg.html][Image: 495e583d656373ffd2a554b044cbdccb.jpg]

Have several things yet to do that I can think of, putting some 3M clear on the tank in spots which may get scuffed by my jacket or tank bag, install the Kaw W 650 fork gaiters which aren't in yet, and putting on my battery tender pigtail which I will get to this coming week. Oh and installing the brackets for the NC Street Shield EX for when I take trips, but that might not happen until closer to fall.

Coming along nicely though

  Service manual favors 10W-30 oil
Posted by: HikerToo_imp - 04-05-2014, 11:52 PM - Forum: Mechanical & Technical - Replies (15)

Finally received my service manual, one of the things I looked up was recommended oil viscosity, since there has been much debate and I know my User Manual ONLY mentions 10W-30, others have said the service manual also recommends 10W-40....
But the way I am reading the service manual, I see recommended oil in 3 places ONLY mentioning 10W-30, only 1 place has a chart where in normal font says you "may" use other viscosities in the chart, in BOLD it still recommends the 10W-30.
Not starting an oil debate, just what I see in the user and service manual.

  I Got It... An Interesting Day!
Posted by: ride4now_imp - 04-05-2014, 12:50 PM - Forum: General Discussion - Replies (42)

Ok... some pictures first...than the report.

Left... the new... Right... the 'old'...

[Image: 35cffe0fb72baf44487893f01fd15da1.jpg]

Yours truly after I arrived and before they started removing parts...(stay tuned).

[Image: 8d5da5ccdc3513ab83676884e6654fbe.jpg]

My sales man on the left... and a customer looking at my 'old' bike.

[Image: 0d93bba0e15d5ba05a0bc2aefc4864f3.jpg]

Another... with the customer...

[Image: c66238641b14c4e94a5b6234d2c4f8cd.jpg]

This bike is beautiful... the color seems deeper than what I saw in Daytona. It's really not much different than the '13.

[Image: c7033d225942636b54c22bd0529f7537.jpg]

You probably can't see it... 2 miles.
I asked why 2? They said they had to ride it to do a safety check. Yeah right..my 13 had .1 miles on it.

[Image: 4ae07bcc032b6576971d6359cdb29fef.jpg]

Look at this... the '14 owners manual has the 13 on the cover. The inside does talk about the '14.

[Image: 6a56260a4bbdfdd49f749c61143183bb.jpg]

Ok, I get to the dealer about 2:30... they roll the 13 back to swap out the luggage rack... 90 minutes later... It's not working. I told them, don't force it. They were trying spacers, and other things.... YIKES. So I told them to forget it, just sell me a new one when the ones for the 14 come out at a discount and mount it free. Ok. Then they start taking off the chrome instrument covers... I wanted those too IF they'd fit. Now I bought them from fellow forumer Greg Davis a few months ago. And he installed them in 5 minutes. 30 minutes later and the dealer says... they can't make them fit since the panel is different. I said what?? Let me see... We walk back to the service area and they have the entire headlight removed and the instruments from the 13. I started laughing... wait a minute, all you do is remove the chrome cover from each instrument. So I tried to just remove it... Greg, you did a good job. They weren't coming off. So the dealer says... I'll sell you a new set for the 14 at cost. Ok... then he pays me cash for what I paid for the old. So that's my story... then when I got to leave around 5:15, I noticed there was no pigtail and they had scratched the right side grab bar. So back inside for a pigtail and for another 'we owe' certificate for the grab bar. What a day!

The bike rides like a dream. I only got to ride it the 20 miles home. And oh yeah, it was also out of gas... they forgot to fill it up. Not that big a deal but...

I really didn't get it into 6th but noticed that 5th gear feels exactly like 5th in the 13.

The seat definitely is softer and the bike sits higher. I like that...it's not as compressed. The instrument panel is nice but the buttons for trip a, trip b, and remaining fuel, etc might be a bit confusing. I agree that the turn signal is lower but I think I'll like that once I get used to the placement.

The paint is gorgeous...seems very similar to our 13's.

Other than that she rides and sounds much like the 13's. However she is much harder to get up on the center stand...it's not as easy as before. I can't believe 30 pounds is doing that.

As I said, an interesting day. I'll post more info over the next few weeks as I get to know her a bit better.

Biker
