broke 100mph today

Banana
First time since I bought my CB that I rode it over 100 MPH today, maybe it was the sport bike hanging behind me for 10 miles, maybe it was the "big" hill on Rt 273 where I used to hit 150+ on my Ninja, or maybe I was bored but I hit 110+ and was almost starting to think...."they may have forgotten the speed limiter on my bike" I'm getting over 115 mph...but than it hit, that was it, but that was enough, lotta fun, wish I could have captured it on video...maybe another time.

Cool! I thought about it when I was on the long straight coming back from Oregon last fall, but I didn't push past 90 and tried to keep cruising around 85.
I don't think I'm likely to shoot for the limiter really.

I would never encourage anyone to disobey the speed limits. Since I am unlikely to ever hit the limiter, I would be interested in seeing a video to see and hear what happens when someone does though. Does it sound funny? Does it stutter? Is it like hitting the brakes? Maybe someone can find one of those " enclosed courses" you see on the car commercials and use that for filming Wink

I bet it got your blood flowingSmile
I was on my way home from my son's yesterday, bikes all over the road. Came on the thruway next to a Kawasaki Concourse geared up probably coming back from upstate for the weekend. He gave me the thumbs up and started to goose it a bit, its a ten miles stretch to where i get off, we both roll on it and there's that limiter, I'm out HP to begin with and he's long gone. Mickey, it feels like your running out of gas. The bike stumbles till you back off. Beautiful day for riding.

I love hauling ass on the CB. Not the crazy slice and dice lane- splitting I used to do on the Viffer, but open-countryside riding on deserted roads. Or the FL Turnpike thru the center of the state where 90+ isn't a standout speed.

The CB eats it up; there's never a hint of headshake, buffeting, etc. In fact, at the higher speeds, even the grip vibration dies off. I am thinking about a different front end though; I need a slightly larger bubble than the Dart Flyscreen provides for those longer runs. Maybe I will start a thread on that and ask about the Comet fairing at speed

Agreed. The Cb is a stable gem at speed and never feels overtaxed.

I am a careful/conservative rider, but I actually would encourage being a little over the limit around these parts. There are a few places where the speed limits are lower than they need to be, and you actually do have to go at least about 10 or 15 over not to get run over. This usually applies to freeways and back roads, not necessarily the surface streets around town.

There's no good reason to need to be going over 100 though, and that can get you in some trouble pretty easily.

"Good reason"? Maybe not....but it's fun in small doses. For me, a quick blast up to speed is a once-in-a-while "treat," but I pretty much limit it to full daylight on roads I know well, with clear lines of sight, no traffic, no intersections, no driveways, no surface contamination, etc.

Is there some additional risk from animals, or a mechanical failure of some kind, in those circumstances? Yes...but on a modern, well-maintained bike the risk is low enough that I'm willing to accept it. I've never felt that there's crystal clear line between "safe" and "unsafe" when it comes to speed. It's all rider and context.

That said, if it's not your cup of tea, absolutely nothing wrong with that. And different people have different tolerances for risk.

I encourage everyone to beak the speed limits early and often on the highway. More throughput means less traffic. I don't know what its like elsewhere, but where I ride traveling at the speed limit is a good way to get rear-ended, flipped off, or road-raged. I'm not being funny either...

Per FL law, going 100+ is supposed to mean a mandatory trip to jail and vehicle impoundment. I say "supposed to" because the LEOs dont always enforce that rule.

On my Ninja I used to do 150+ at least once a week, so breaking 100 once in the last 5 years is not that bad. I won't mention how many red line shifts or drag races I did in the late 80's....fun times
