Chicken Strips / Lean Angle
Posted by: Tortuga_imp - 04-12-2014, 07:49 AM - Forum: General Discussion - Replies (38)

Dudes, let's get personal here.

I've only done 370 miles odd on mine but I've still got a pink stripe on part of my rear tyre. I've scrubbed it to within a half inch of the edge, but obviously not enough to wear the paint off.

I was interested to know, what tyres have you got fitted, how big are YOUR chicken strips, if you have any, and how long before you cranked it over fully?

Also what sort of lean angles are you achieving, and has anyone one scraped the pegs?

Photos would be ACE!Celebrate

Videos would be AMAZINGSSS!

  Which oil at low miles
Posted by: Tortuga_imp - 04-12-2014, 06:10 AM - Forum: Mechanical & Technical - Replies (29)

Ok, I know I'm going to get shot for this (starting another dreaded oil thread) but I'm confused as to what I should use for my impending second service at 400 miles (lol).

I'm sure the dealer either didn't do a service at 100 or if they did just chucked some bulk tank crap in.

I saw various 10-30W motorcycle specific oils on eBay, however some are fully synth and others part. I'm under the impression fully synth is for higher mileage bikes, so I need part synth, but.....

Would I be ok to use Castrol or Rock Oil semi synth 10-30W motorcycle oil or will my head explode if I don't use Honda branded oil, which seems to be rare on my Island.

Honda CB1100 was not my first choice
Posted by: tomas_imp - 04-12-2014, 02:48 AM - Forum: Other Bikes - Replies (26)

I was ready for a retro bike three years ago, and then I saw the Kawasaki W800 in the color green on the web.
I loved the way this bike looked, and the color it came in (green) it was beautiful. So for three years I asked and checked with dealers to see if Kawasaki was going to send it to the USA. No one had a clue if it was ever going to happen. So in the mean time I looked at the Moto Guzzi V7, it looked good, but I thought I would another year to see if the W800 would come to the States. Another year goes by and no W800. But in that year Honda came out with the CB1100. This bike looked great, and all most bought it. But I decided to give Kawasaki one more chance. Once again 2014 came and no W800. Then I saw the New Honda CB1100 DLX on the web. I was sold, I put money down and ordered the bike, it looked perfect to me. Sorry Kawasaki, you missed the boat on this one, cause Honda is going to sell a lot of these bikes in a market place you could have been in, years before Honda. If one is to pick between CB1100 DLX or W800, and for a few dollars more the CB wins hands down.

Australian WSBK 2014 - Part 3 Going Home
Posted by: Pterodactyl_imp - 04-11-2014, 03:37 PM - Forum: Seat Time - Replies (4)

Day 7: Phillip Island to Lavers Hill, Vic

365kms 5hrs 01mins
Left Phillip Island early. For the last night at PI we had a big one around the campfire so I wasn't, to say the least, in "showroom condition". Stopped at the first roadhouse for fuel, a big drink of water, coffee, a burger and large fries, and finally a litre of coke to cut the grease. Never felt better. First stop was Geelong where I picked up a RH mirror from the Honda dealer. Once fitted and adjusted took a lazy ride to Torquay, surfing capital of Victoria (Bells Beach et al) and then revisited the Great Ocean Road. A beaut ride and I was lucky for both weather and traffic. Stopped the night at Lavers Hill. I would recommend the Pub and associated campground to any one lucky enough to be looking for a stop in this area. Cheap ($5 for crying out loud!), good facilities, beautiful camp site and the pub food is well above average. The locals and staff are very biker friendly.

[/img]
Near Lorne

[/img]
The GOR rides this coastline from Lorne to Apollo Bay. Get ready for Campervans, piloted by Euro-tourists, on the wrong side of the road.

Day 8: Lavers Hill to Bright Vic

611kms 7hrs 54mins
From Lavers Hill through forest twisties and then back to the Coast to do some sightseeing. The coast is wild here. Cliffs battered by the Southern Ocean swells have produced a series of island outcrops known as the Twelve Apostles. One collapsed into the sea recently so in fact there are now eleven apostles. I guess a rename is out of the question. The Eleven Apostles doesn’t have the same ring about it.

[/img]
An Apostle

[/img]
And another (and no more I promise)

[/img]
A swim would be good, but this is Great White Shark capital of the world

On to Port Campbell for breakfast and then through the Otway Ranges (more twisties).
After the Otways I made good time up the highway (boring, bloody boring...thank you Mr Apple for iTunes). The Doom (Hume) highway is four/six lane, divided, speed limited to 100/110, and with an honour guard of speed safety cameras. Speed safety is a euphemism for revenue raising. About an hour out of Bright ran into evening thunderstorms and finally set up camp, in the rain, on the river bank in the centre of town. Glass of red, a pizza and (another) good, albeit damp, nights sleep.

Day 9: Bright Vic to Yarralumla ACT

494kms 6hrs 48mins
Mates (and Bruces), the Kosciuszko National Park and the Snowies are biker heaven. Well for Aussie bikers anyway. Twisties, sweepers, straights, double lane and single lane. This time, the weather was a little variable but nothing to make the surface too scary.

[/img]
Mt Beauty, gateway to the snowfields (in winter) and all sorts of other fun in the summer.

[/img]
Goat Ridge Rd., Kosciuszko NP

[/img]
Going "Popeye"

[/img]
Heavy Traffic - Snowy Mountains Highway

Continued through Cooma to the Australian Capital Territory and stayed with friends at Yarralumla. I had forgotten how good a mattress feels.

Day 10: Yarralumla to Home Sweet Home

290kms 3hrs 03mins
Boring , bloody boring. Up the highway, in the rain, and rolled into the garage with this, exactly, on the clock:

[/img]
Bloody hell, Bruce, this is a bonza bike!

Has anyone tried to add more front lighting? I have the Kijima crash bars and thought I could add more lighting using the crash bars as a mounting place. Any ideas?
