  Protective film from tank snapper?
Posted by: 4 Paws_imp - 06-07-2015, 11:18 AM - Forum: Accessories/Modifications - Replies (3)

Stumbled across a company selling pre-cut clear film, 3M and other brands, to protect the tank. Anybody familiar with them?

I suppose it was bound to happen at some point.

I guess in the back of my mind I honestly never really thought that this would happen.

In my case it was exactly 2 years, 2 months and 2 days before it finally took place.

My tank just seems so naked without them. First the RLETs and now this?

(I blame the unseasonably warm weather we've been experiencing.)

  Battery Terminal Care
Posted by: Novice_imp - 06-07-2015, 06:51 AM - Forum: Mechanical & Technical - Replies (8)

I recently had a bad experience with battery terminal corrosion with my car (dealer obviously didn't check them during the scheduled maintenance in spite of paperwork to the contrary). Regardless, it got me thinking about my CB. I know car batteries and motorcycle batteries are somewhat different animals, but I'm sure mc batteries still require some attention. I couldn't find anything in the service book in reference to battery terminal care so my question is; how do you care for yours? Do you use terminal protectant at all? Is it needed with mc batteries? If so, what brand or kind of protectant or cleaner do you use? Thanks in advance you guys are awesome!

Sunday morning spot o tea by the lake
Posted by: the Ferret - 06-07-2015, 02:39 AM - Forum: Seat Time - Replies (14)

Woke up to just a beautiful Sunday morning. Clear, 68 degrees. Took off early and headed for the lake. You've all seen the pics of the roads, left curves, right curves, up hill, down hill so I won't post those. Just a couple from this mornings stop.

By the lake, watching the sun come up with my thermos of tea

if you look closely you can see a family down there fishing.

I really like my color matched headlight bucket and chrome instrument covers I got from Mr T. Kind of an extravagant purchase for me, but well worth it IMO

Yesterday I had painted an old plastic chrome lic plate frame satin black. I kind of like it, but the frame is too thick. I want to get one like Chip Beck has. I think his looks good. Not sure about mine.

while sitting there drinking my tea I zoomed in on the family and snapped what I thought was a pretty good pic. They soon finished fishing after being skunked, and as they walked past I told them about the pic, showed it to them and offered to send it to them if they wanted. Guy says curtly "I don't have an email". Well, ok then. Guess guys on motorcycles scare them, even pretty red ones. So I'll let you enjoy it. I like how they are kind of silhouetted against the glimmering water which is kind of choppy.

Finished my tea, and had a great return ride home thru those same curves and hills, only running them backwards from the morning ride.

Anyhow, back home from the rally and enjoying my favorite local roads again. Life is good.

  Quality time?
Posted by: Xyzzy_imp - 06-07-2015, 01:45 AM - Forum: Motorcycling - General - Replies (10)

My son is fourteen years old. I think he views me as "lame" or "boring". I dunno, maybe I am?

I have to trick him to spend time with me. If he "helps" me with maintenance he gets some video game time.

At his age I would have given my left testicle to spend time with my dad, or to work on a motorcycle. But I am old-fashioned I guess. Air conditioning still freaks me out.

Someday maybe my son will come across this post and he will realize how much these few minutes of time we spent together meant to me.

We didn't speak much. I don't remember what was said, but I expect it was along the lines of:

Him: We've been out here for hours! And we haven't done anything!
Me: I know! How cool is that?

Him: This bike is ugly! I like the racy looking ones better!
Me: <Continues to stare at the CB in appreciation.>

Me: Hey, do you want to know why chain drive is more efficient than shaft drive?
Him: <Ignores question and continues popping soap bubbles on the ground.>

Him: We just changed the oil a few weeks ago!
Me: I wish I could ride more!

Him: That's good enough! It doesn't have to be perfect!
Me: Anything worth doing is worth doing right!

(It would be fun to hear his side of the story!)

Good times!

spotted three Cb1100s at Americade this week.
Posted by: uscgmac_imp - 06-06-2015, 11:48 PM - Forum: General Discussion - Replies (6)

I spent a good part of the week at Americade bike rally in Lake George this week and spotted three CB1100s. Two were 2013s I believe and one was a 14 black standard with cafe mods. Nice to see the CB out and about. Didn't get to see where the red 13 was from because it was traveling on the opposite side of the street. One was blue from Ontario Canada and the other was the black 14 from Rhode island which was actually staying at my hotel, the motel 6 on the main drag, wanted to run into the owner and tell him what a nice job he did with the cafe mods but never ran into him. Anyway had a great time even though I rode my touring bike up to the rally. So whoever was up there at Lake George chime in and share the experience. The weather and riding was great. I did a 250mi tour through Vermont and another 250mi tour around the Adarondak lakes. Fun time by all.
P.S. I know I've seen these bike on this forum, especially the black 14, just have to search and find them. The black 14 had clip on cafe bars, a custom tank, brown ribbed seat and black fenders with eliminator kit and bar end mirrors, really cool.

  Windshield alignment
Posted by: White Dog_imp - 06-06-2015, 12:08 PM - Forum: Mechanical & Technical - Replies (4)

I've had several brands of cycle windshields over the years and something in the instructions never made it to the understanding part of my brain. Most instructions say to align the shield parallel with the forks. What I never understood is are they talking about the front contour of the shield or the sides? Mine have always been different. Look at yours, as applicable, and see which way your shield is aligned.
