Me for myself enjoy the dynamics and timing of the ride while moving along the roads. I like discovering new roads and places, being mobile in a different way to a car, smelling the changes in the air, feeling the elements and the power of the machine.

Why do you ride?

Is anyone having trouble getting Chrome to load the CB1100 Forum correctly?

It works fine with Firefox and Microsoft Edge, just not Chrome on multiple computers?

My Dad, at 73, just bought himself a bike he has been wanting for a long time now. It is a pretty rough (was stored outside for a long while by a previous owner and has some chrome plating issues) 98 BMW R1200C.

It has some rusty bits here and there that we'll be looking at replacing, and basically try and get it mechanically sound so he can decide if riding again is a good fit for him or not, and then if riding this is a good fit or not. He ended up scoring it for $3k so we both think that even if he sells it, he wont loose any money on it. We're getting it road worthy today, the front brake lines are split and leaking, and those are all getting replaced with a braided set.

I ended up grabbing a steal on this new to me beauty. a 1998 Shadow ACE 1100 Tourer. It has Cobra floorboards, Mustang seats, and a Vance and Hines Exhaust. 57k miles on her and a rebuilt title for causes unknown. But this bike rides and runs pretty flawlessly.

It does have a little bit of a sputter/miss when rolling in to the throttle hard (mid RPM or so) at first I was thinking carb issue, but upon cleaning it up and taking the seat off, I found a mouse made a home in the air box and ended up chewing a small hole in the engine side of the air box. So probably was running a touch lean. New parts are ordered for it and should show up next week. Other then that and some small scratches here and there I think I got a pretty good deal at only $1800.


I know a lot of people here dabble in other bikes. Does someone have experience with one of those BMW R1200C?

can u guys show me some racks for the dlx i have a 14 standard with dlx brackets and seat so im looking for a luggage rack and one maybe with a passenger rest ??

Cruising up the 101 in my car heading to my girlfriends house in Ventura, I was behind a motorcycle. As I got in the right lane toward my exit, I noticed the beautiful red tank and knew right away that I was finally, for the first time, in the presence of another, real-life cb1100 . I was more excited than I care to admit so I (safely) pulled out my phone and took a few snaps! Hope this is a member and they see this. The rider never looked my way and I didn't want to get to lose for safety reasons, so I wasnt able to give them a thumbsup. But the bike looked great!

I've been keeping an eye out for a Sportster for a couple years now. Why?

My feeling (which will undoubtedly be wrong) is like CB1100's, air cooled Sportsters will stop dropping and prices will start climbing. And I've not owned a Sportster before.

But my list of requirements really narrowed down what I could consider. It had to be 1200 and I wanted a rubber mounted one which began in 2004 I believe. Prefer FI which began in 2007. Also no spokes, had to have cast wheels (no inner tubes) with traditional size 19" front and full fenders (no fat tire Iron model). I wished for a model with the most suspension so no "Low" model. I also wanted one with a large tank certainly not 2.5 gallon, 3.3 gallon ok, but prefer 4.5 gallon.

And lastly, what always seemed to eliminate the few I found that met the above, it had to be stock or almost so. No apes with different cables and brake line, forward pegs and controls, loud exhaust OK as long as the stock one came with it. No motor mods by Lord knows who.

The one I looked at and bought yesterday met all the above. It's a 2008 Roadster, completely stock, 4,700 miles with owners manual and both keys. The owner, who bought it in 2008, never rode it much to begin with but after hip replacement hardly at all.

It's not perfect there's a slight dent in the tank, but it's hardly noticeable so I won't bother with it. Nothing's faded but it appears to have been kept in an unheated garage/shed so there's some surface rust on a few bolts and the springs which were hidden by the panniers he had fitted. I am just going to replace the shocks along with the original tires.

Anyway here it is, after getting it home I removed the bags and gave it a good scrubbing.

I just got a mesh jacket for hot weather riding. So far I really like it. I also like how it fits in the style of the CB as well. It is a little tight of a fit. Normal JoeRocket jackets I wear a Large to and have enough room to move and stretch. This one I had to get an XL. it fits more like a bomber jacket (I.E. a little short to the waist, tighter at the wrists and neck). I scored it on Motosport.com for about $180. I got the black and the mesh is more of a silver then a dark grey like the pictures on their site show.

I like to use OEM Honda parts on my bike and car, but I'm always out for a good deal. When the CRV rolled 100k, I replaced the spark plugs with a set of OEM NGKs, purchased from Ebay. When the car hit around 120k, the engine started stuttering here and there. I diagnosed everthing I could before pulling the plugs for inspection. They were only at 20k, how could they be the culprit? They were counterfeit, and the electrodes on two of them had vaporized.

Lesson learned. Or at least until I needed a bargain again.

Almost out of my last case of oil filters, ordered years ago. Found a great deal on a pack of six on Ebay. U.S. seller, claimed to be OEM Honda. But, the really Chinese-y thank you message I got when I placed the order put me on alert. I started looking online about "How to spot fake Honda parts". This focused on the label printing and colors, the printing on the parts themselves, etc.

When I got my filters, the plain white boxes made of the same material most Chinese parts come in was an easy tip-off. Even more so that one of them had the drain valve spring and clip bouncing around loose inside the filter. The printing on the filter was nowhere near the same writing as my last genuine filter.

Messages back and forth with the seller resulted in a full refund, so no harm done. However, I found just as many warnings and examples of fake Honda motorcycle parts as I did car parts.

So, properly warned ye be. Don't be like Gaga-Pee-Pap. Order your parts from a reputable source, not Ebay.

In my years of riding and reading forums, this one here, the CB1100 forum, is the best, most useful, most entertaining, best laid out, best managed, overall best forum I'v ever seen, and I've seen a lot of them. Now that I have a Yamaha V-Star 1300, I am looking for a Yamaha forum, but Holy Mackerel Batman, there does not seem to be such a thing. There are a lot of Yami forums, but they're full of ads, and they want to charge me and share my data if I want an an-free forum. So, do the moderators of this forum also do a Yamaha forum?
