Well Steve did a marvelous job posting the pictures and describing the ride we took in his thread http://cb1100forum.com/forum/showthread.php?tid=8210, and it was a great day for sure. It all started a bit early for me. I woke up just south of 5 a.m. and decided to get up and start getting ready. I loaded the CB up on the trailer (yes, I took the easy way down), grabbed my gear and headed south along highway 17 from Charleston. It's about 3, 1/2 hour trip to where the Redbirds live. So it kind of makes for a long out and back day trip, but well worth it.
I arrived just after 10, and unloaded the bike, changed clothes and head off to see what the area had to offer. Wow, I was pleased to say the least. I was stationed at Moody AFB, just about an hour south of there in Valdosta, and wish I would have known about this area at that time. It had a good mix of rolling hills and winding roads, and loads of scenery. We would pass a road and I would wonder where it might lead (especially if it had a sign with an arrow that indicated that there was a turn coming up). We passed some beautiful homes with big ol' live oaks. It's early in the year, but the weather has been great and the Azaleas and Dogwoods trees are in full bloom, which added to the scenic splendor of the area. I could have stopped to take pictures a dozen, or more times, but that would have made for a long day.
After 170 miles, or so, we made it back from our ride and Steve's wife Pam had a wonderful meal ready for us. (Thank you Girl, it was great). We sat around chatting for a while and downloaded some of the pictures I took (so Steve could upload them on here). I tried to convey how much I enjoyed the day, but I am not sure I could put it into words. It was truly wonderful. Steve says that he knows of some more good roads. So I guess I will just have to go back down there and see if for myself. So as I was about to leave I said that I would have to come back. I am thinking sometime in the fall would be great.
Added note: I was low on full, my light had been blinking for a while. I put in 3.4 Gallons, and ended our ride with 154 miles on that tank and the last bar on the gauge as yet to start blinking. Oh, it was also 97 octane, non-ethanol fuel.

A member of the Ridersforum.com was having comfort issues with his new Ninga 1000. Rock ( Anthony ) lives 30 miles from me and I decided to PM him for a meet up. Last week I had my bike flashed by Ivans of Rockland County which by the way is the real deal, Ivan took 3 months of dyno and seat time to get it right.
Rock's bike is stock, his legs where getting numb after riding 50 miles. We met up for a days ride. i switched with him and let him enjoy me upgrades which include a custom seat, bar risers, aftermarket shield, flash and Michelin PP3's ( the stock tires are horrible) BTW this is rock's 2nd time around with the N1K, he bought a BMW and Ducati now back to the N1K in a matter of 2 years.
He got off with a big smile on his face wishing he knew the first time around how much more comfortable the N1K was with the upgrades. They are two different bikes, comfort & performance.

Moral of the story, He is sending his seat out to Seth to be done and I offered him my spare modified seat for the 3 week period his is being crafted. Rock has been a member of different forums as has never received this quick of a response. I have to admit I have not either until being a member of this forum, must be the age and quality of membership.

Meeting at my home in Pierce County this Wednesday morning, we set out north on GA121 for the Altamaha River and some lovely riding on lightly traveled roads that follow the gentle hills that parallel the rivers broad flood plain.

Just past the river we turn west on GA178 and then left on the Old River Road. Very few homes on this road, just miles of pine woods, oak hammocks and creeks that flow to the river. An old antebellum home commands a particularly beautiful spot on the road front. Aging barns and outbuildings face the old house from the far roadside. An old car, early 50's I think rusts away in a barn.

We leave the old place behind and head west again, turning left on GA147 to our next stop, an abandoned farmhouse that I featured in my original post. This is a place covered with old Live Oaks as most of this part of the south was before the Civil War and the advent of fast growing pine tree plantations. Ken had expressed a keen interest in seeing this old setting out of another time.

Leaving here, we continue west, crossing US1 and continuing on River Road. We pass farms that overlook fields full of Vidalia onions and the aroma of their ripening bulbs is as thick as the pine pollen that coats everything. Still headed west, US221 is crossed and we begin Bell's Ferry Road and the bridges that cross the Oconee River, an Altamaha feeder.

Just up the road is Lumber City and Stinson's Bar-B-Q for a late lunch.

After some pulled pork sandwiches, time to head back east, now on the south side of the river and headed to Hazlehurst on US341.

In Hazlehurst we turn left on Altamaha Road to enjoy some nice "twisties", well twisties for south Georgia anyway. Crossing US1 again and continuing on Lenox Road, Ten Mile Road and on to Lane's Bridge Road. We reach GA121 again and ride south toward Patterson. Last photo stop before reaching my place is a farm with an old gas pump.

A few more miles and we're back. About 170 miles done. Pot roast in the crock pot for supper. It was a fantastic ride. Let's do another ride soon Ken.

Well... The stickers came off nicely with the heat gun and some goof off. Clear tank protector should be functional for the $15 or whatever, but some air bubbles remain. I couldn't find my roll of 3m clear protective film. Next time I hope to have that handy. Should be able to do a better job with that stuff anyway. The protector should do the job for a while and they can be removed without damage anyway. Hadn't posted any pics of my bike yet. Installed a NC street shield ex and that's about it so far.

So I finally got around to swapping out my handlebars. It was much easier than I thought it would be. The left grip came off pretty easy with some WD40 and a long skinny screwdriver.
I'm just waiting on the hand grip cement I ordered online to reinstall the left hand grip and internal weights. I'll upload better pics of the finished product once it's completely done. I already like the feel of the lower bars better. It feels like it will give me better control with a slightly more forward position.

A comprehensive 5 page test in this weeks MCN gives the new Triumph a good but not great review. Lots of comparisons are made between the T120 and the Truxton (tested last week) and Triumph might be wishing they had launched these two bike in reverse order. The T120 comes across as a competent cruiser with a couple of minor flaws whereas the Truxton appeared excellent in all departments. The main gripes with the T120 are: 18" front wheel (style over substance) with poor tyre selection which makes streering less positive, a sharp front brake caused by braided hoses and poor pad selection and a basic suspension setup. The bike still gets a 4 star rating and is presented as an excellent cruising/weekend bike but the problem is all in the name. Back in the 60's (and yes, I was riding Bonnies then) this bike was the ultimate cafe racer which was the benchmark for all sporty bikes. It got its name as a record breaker at Bonneville and therefore carries tremendous pedigree. It seems Triumph have now aimed this bike at people like me (much older and slower) but I think this is a mistake. I want to remember the Bonnie as it was or see its character carried forward for today's sporty riders and I'll move on to other bikes more suited to my riding style. I remember a driving holiday I had in the US back in the 90's when I treated myself to a Ford Mustang hire car and the feeling of disappointment I experienced at the 'old man' performance, an iconic name tarnished by a marketing department.

Anyone have their chain and sprocket replaced by the dealer yet? If so, what was the OTD cost? And how many miles did you get out of the first chain?

Looks like an intact bike. Wish I had an extra $200.00.

Just installed the Triumph gaiters and clamps on my "13. Someone else here made the recommendation.

I bet they last as long as the bike. Very well made. And i like the black clamps. Much better than stainless steel.

You'll also need two screws( one per) for the clamps. The clamps aren't sold with them. I bought them from Triumph, but I can't find the package with the part #.
