Hey guys.

When do you change out your tires? I swear I've got a bunch of life left with only like 3500 miles. But lately, my rear tire has been getting a lil' Squirrely.

Maybe it's because the tires aren't completely warmed up yet with the cold weather.

Thoughts ?

So I bought a member's take-off Ryujin Hand-Bent Full Exhaust on eBay and am looking into how I plan on mapping it. I plan on running it without the baffle, and figure I will need at least a bit of a re-tune to get me along until I eventually take it in for a real dyno session.

There are only two maps on the Power Commander website (stock and Yoshimura slip-on muffler). I'm running the map for the stock bike right now, and was thinking I would switch to the Yosh slip-on map as a stop gap, but then I noticed the following.

The map for the slip-on exhaust is massively leaned out (red squares) compared to PCV map for a stock bike, which fattens most of the rev range (green squares).

I just can't figure out how with better breathing you would want less fuel? I figured the slip-on map would at least get me in the direction of fattening things up a bit, but I guess I'd just be better off sticking with the stock map until I can get one made? Or is there actually a reason why you would want less fuel with a better breathing exhaust?

My shocks are still on the factory setting...Meaning the (2) second position. I weigh about 185 and this setting seems perfect. Does anyone suggest an adjustment, either up or down? As I've said, all seems well as is...But hey, I'm bored, and this is a forum to gab about this sort of stuff...If I can't discuss it here, where else could I?

Raining and cold/windy outside. decided I'd make use of the time by cleaning the bike from head to toe in anticipation of the impending riding season.

Wiped the entire bike down with baby wipes...cheap/non caustic and gets all the surface dirt off the bike without going through clean towels or more expensive Armor All cleaning wipes. For the tougher stuff I sprayed Armor All cleaner on the baby wipes and worked those areas over. Saves a ton of money.

Then applied a light coat of 'medium' rubbing compound with light pressure to the tank to get the surface swirls out. While that was drying I used some Mercury (as in boat) Cowl Finishing Compound product number (92-859026K) on the Dart Fly Screen. This stuff works wonders on the black Mercury plastic motor cowls (takes out the swirls and minor scratches).

While all that was drying I started on the wheels doing the surface cleaning again with the baby wipes and applying the chrome polish to the exhaust and fenders/mirrors/blinkers using the wipes.

Now thinking about running to the local auto parts store and picking up some stronger cleaner for the headers. They have flecks of rust I'd like to at least work over a little if not totally remove.

I found an aluminium fairing on the Bremen Classic Motor Show. Original part from a 2007 Ducati Monster. The surface was anodized and brushed. It looks to modern on the CB, so I found someone who polished it. Now it looks like fully chrome old fashioned
It fits like a glove on the CB.











Can't say anything about the wind characteristics, because the bike and the driver is in hibernation

I wish the Moto Guzzi V7R oil filter was as accessible and easy to change as the CB's. An oil change just can't get any easier than the CB's.

When I first purchased the Dart Fly screen from a forum member it was to be a stop gap until I had time to decide if I wanted an RC1 or 2 but, the minimalist period correct look and high build quality of it's mounts and other components has won me over. It's staying. It does what I wanted it to do (keep the gauge cluster free of bugs and debris) and also doesn't produce any turbulence for my helmets.

I'm going to paint the side covers and Dart Fly Screen red. I have too much going on in the color spectrum for it to look unified. Brown seat/silver covers/red tank/tinted screen. Going with the original red on the side covers/Dart Fly Screen and having it clear coated. Will purchase the paint next week and have it shipped and then see who in the local area will do the painting for me.

The CB continues to enamor me. I ran it 30 miles today starting with a twisty section of interstate going through a winding canyon. Then over a well maintained secondary road climbing almost 4,000 feet in altitude followed by a twisty decent to approx. 5,000 feet. Then, it did it again in reverse. At 65-70mph through the twisty canyon I felt the bike was loping along. I could have gone 20 mph faster without inducing any drama into the ride. On the climb, the bikes torque was ever present and although I was in fourth for some of the climb I could have stayed in 5th. I've heard the brakes on occasion lamented here. Apparently I don't know what good brakes are because I'm more than satisfied with how they hauled down the bikes bulk burdened by the addition of mine and magnified by gravity as the CB and I hurled down the steeper north face of the ridge. Detractors will mention the weight, I see it as a non-issue so balanced is the bike. From now on if somebody mentions the bikes weight I'll just say "It's the Levon Kirkland of UJM's".

Ran a few errands today on the CB. In the last two years I think I've only seen a total of three CB1100's on the road here, but I saw two today, just about 20 minutes apart. The first one, a black, 2014 standard, passed me on 163N, just before the I-15 exchange. The second, a 2013 standard with a windscreen, passed me going in the opposite direction on Clairemont Mesa Blvd, who then did a U-turn and met up with me at a signal light. If either of you gentlemen visit this forum, then "hello".

Changed the oil today. Went from 10W-40 to 10W-30 and I swear I noticed an immediate change in the way the bike shifted. Just seems to be less noisy and the shifts feel softer if not necessarily smoother. Took the bike out and ran it for 30 miles over the backside of the Wasatch Crest into Ogden Valley and back to the house. Picture is about 8 miles from home and 4,000 feet higher.
